Opis:
We found the easy and efficient synthesis method of the vertically aligned ultralong multi-walled nanotubes using iron chloride powder. The 2.1-mm-long bulk nanotubes can be grown by conventional thermal chemical vapor deposition on bare quartz surface with the single gas flow of acetylene for 20 min. In addition to the high growth rate, the bulk of carbon nanotubes is easily spun into the yarn by pulling it out, and the present method also provides the coating ability with nanotubes as a new functionality of this nanomaterial. Opis:
It is generally assumed that plants can respond to varying degrees of physical damage by growth compensation via resprouting, and resprouting is a key functional trait in many species. Few studies have investigated how grass and shrub species distributed in moving dunes and semifixed dunes in semiarid areas respond to the combined effects of temperature and shoot removal. Medicago sativa, Artemisia ordosica, and Artemisia sphaerocephala plants were grown in a glasshouse for 8 weeks at air temperatures of 10/20°C, 12.5/22.5°C, 15/25°C, and 17.5/27.5°C (night/day) and were subjected to treatments of removing all leaves (LR), removing all leaves followed by cutting at half the plant height (HC), and removing all aboveground tissue (WC). The species, temperature, and damage extent had significant effects on the shoot number, leaf mass ratio, leaf area ratio and ratio of belowground to aboveground dry matter, and the species had a significant effect on the net assimilation rate, specific leaf area, and total biomass. The three species grew well under the HC and LR treatments, and high temperatures (15/25°C and 17.5/27.5°C) significantly promoted the regrowth of the three species. Medicago sativa grew faster than the two Artemisia species. Medicago sativa can be used for fertilizing or vegetation restoration in unimportant conservation areas, and the two Artemisia species can be effectively used for vegetation restoration in the Mu Us Sandland. Due to the low labor costs and the local climate conditions, plants should be clipped before the beginning of the main growing season (end of May or early June) to ensure rapid growth.

Opis:
Lacunar infarcts have been defined as small lesions within a diameter of 1.5 centimeters causing mild symptoms. However, we treated a patient showing prolonged, severe disturbance of the cognitive function after a lacunar infarct. The 85-year–old woman was found lying on the floor of her house, and she was transported to our hospital. Computed tomography (CT) revealed a right lacunar infarct, and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) showed severe periventricular hyperintensity (PVH) of her brain. Her severe consciousness disorder showed improvement, but severe cognitive impairment including disorientation remained when she was transferred to another hospital. These findings suggested that the reserve capacity of her brain was minimal. The addition of a lacunar infarct to a severe situation like this might induce severe cognitive impairment.

Opis:
Effective comminution of copper ore for further processing during flotation is still a challenge, both as a technological problem as well as for the high energy costs of such processing. A high-pressure water jet is one alternative method of preparing copper ore for final flotation, causing distinct enlargement of the surface of micronized particles, which could be profitable for copper production. As a consequence of such innovative processing, particles of copper ore become micronized, ensuring grain fractions directly useful for flotation at the exit of the pulverizing apparatus (the hydro-jetting mill). The paper presents some results of simulation as well as describing an analysis of the phenomena occurring inside the high-pressure water and abrasive-water jets of specific structures, elaborated in the aspect of developing hybrid jets of maximum erosive efficiency, potentially useful for effective pulverization.
