Opis:
The propagation of EM waves in soil is defined by permittivity and permeability which are in turn affected by the soil parameters such as soil moisture and texture. Therefore, a suitable Dielectric Model like MBSDM is required for the channel characterization of WUSN. Effect of soil parameters and environmental conditions on signal propagation is modelled using Superposition Model. The simulation of these stages is done in MATLAB for UG-UG, UG-AG and AG–UG scenarios. The system is further implemented on the ZYNQ ZC–702 hardware platform.

Opis:
This paper presents a numerical modelling and optimization of a new ‘star-like’ geometric texture shape with an aim to improve tribological performance. Initial studies showed that the triangle effect is the most dominant in reducing the friction. Motivated with this, a ‘star-like’ texture shape consisting of a series of triangular spikes around the centre of the texture is proposed. It is hypothesised that by increasing the triangular effect on a texture shape, the converging micro-wedge effect is expected to increase, hence increasing the film pressure and reducing the friction. Using the well-known Reynolds boundary conditions, numerical modelling of surface texturing is implemented via finite difference method. Simulation results showed that the number of apex points of the new ‘star-like’ texture has a significant effect on the film pressure and the friction coefficient. A 6-pointed texture at a texture density of 0.4 is shown to be the optimum shape. The new optimum star-like texture reduces the friction coefficient by 80%, 64.39%, 19.32% and 16.14%, as compared to ellipse, chevron, triangle and circle, respectively. This indicates the potential benefit of the proposed new shape in further enhancing the hydrodynamic lubrication performance of slider bearing contacts.

Opis:
Roundabouts are replacing conventional unsignalized intersections in many parts of the world (Polus and Shmueli, 1997). Capacity estimation is necessary for designing a new roundabout, to analyze and improve the existing roundabout facilities. There are several methods to estimate the capacity of the roundabout, but most of them are for homogeneous lane based traffic conditions and not applicable for mixed traffic conditions. This study tries to find out the applicability of the existing methods to mixed traffic conditions, identify the effect of vehicle composition, travel time and delay on capacity. In this study, data was collected from two roundabouts located in Mysore, Karnataka and Rajahmundry, Andhra Pradesh in India. Capacities for both the roundabouts are calculated using the existing methods and compared. VISSIM simulation model has been developed and analyzed for different vehicle compositions scenarios. It was observed that vehicle composition of the traffic influences the roundabout capacity. Since the entry capacity of a roundabout varies significantly with the vehicle composition of the traffic at the roundabout, it is necessary to incorporate this factor into the existing capacity estimation models.

Opis:
Wireless sensor network (WSN) plays a crucial role in many industrial, commercial, and social applications. However, increasing the number of nodes in a WSN increases network complexity, making it harder to acquire all relevant data in a timely way. By assuming the end node as a base station, we devised an Artificial Ant Routing (AAR) method that overcomes such network difficulties and finds an ideal routing that gives an easy way to reach the destination node in our situation. The goal of our research is to establish WSN parameters that are based on the biologically inspired Ant Colony Optimization (ACO) method. The proposed AAR provides the alternating path in case of congestion and high traffic requirement. In the event of node failures in a wireless network, the same algorithm enhances the efficiency of the routing path and acts as a multipath data transmission approach. We simulated network factors including Packet Delivery Ratio (PDR), Throughput, and Energy Consumption to achieve this. The major objective is to extend the network lifespan while data is being transferred by avoiding crowded areas and conserving energy by using a small number of nodes. The result shows that AAR is having improved performance parameters as compared to LEACH, LEACH-C, and FCM-DS-ACO.

Opis:
This work examines the efficacy of deep learning (DL) based non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) receivers in vehicular communications (VC). Analytical formulations for the outage probability (OP), symbol error rate (SER), and ergodic sum rate for the researched vehicle networks are established Rusing i.i.d. Nakagami-m fading links. Standard receivers, such as least square (LS) and minimum mean square error (MMSE), are outperformed by the stacked long-short term memory (S-LSTM) based DL-NOMA receiver. Under real time propagation circumstances, including the cyclic prefix (CP) and clipping distortion, the simulation curves compare the performance of MMSE and LS receivers with that of the DL-NOMA receiver. According to numerical statistics, NOMA outperforms conventional orthogonal multiple access (OMA) by roughly 20% and has a high sum rate when considering i.i.d. fading links.

Opis:
First-principles calculations have been used to study the structural, electronic, magnetic, and thermal properties of the Cr doped Ge₆Mn₂Te₈ and Ge₆Fe₂Te₈ systems. The calculations were performed using the full-potential linearized augmented plane wave plus local orbitals (FP-LAPW + LO) method based on the spin-polarized density functional theory. Additionally, the electronic exchange-correlation potential is approximated using the spin generalized gradient approximation. The structural properties of the Ge₅Mn₂CrTe₈ and Ge₅Fe₂CrTe₈ alloys are indicated by their corresponding lattice constants, values of the bulk moduli and their pressure derivatives. An analysis of the band structures and the densities of states indicate that for both alloys, they present nearly half-metallic ferromagnetism character. The band structure calculations are used to estimate the spin-polarized splitting energies, Δp_{x}(d) and Δp_{x}(pd) produced by the 3d Mn, 3d Fe and 3d Cr doped states as well as the s(p)-d exchange constants, N₀α (conduction band) and N₀β (valence band). It is observed that the p-d hybridization reduces the magnetic moment of the Mn and Fe atoms from their atomic charge values and create small local magnetic moments on the nonmagnetic Ge and Te sites. Furthermore, the calculations of the charge density indicate that both compounds have ionic bonding character. Through the quasi-harmonic Debye model, the effects of pressure P and temperature T on the bulk modulus B, the primitive cell volume V/V₀, the Debye temperature θ_{D}, the Grüneisen parameter γ, the heat capacity C_{V}, the entropy S, as well as the thermal expansion coefficient, α of the Ge₆Mn₂Te₈, Ge₅Mn₂CrTe₈, Ge₆Fe₂Te₈ and Ge₅Fe₂CrTe₈ alloys are predicted.

Copper have always been an important material and incorporation of elements into copper for property enhancement. Bronze is a relevant cuprous alloy which is important for many industrial and automotive applications like bearings and machineries. The present research is directed towards the fabrication and tribological analysis of regular bronze (Cu-6Sn) and metal matrix composites reinforced with varying particle sized SiC ceramic reinforcement (30, 35 and 40 μm). The developed specimens were subjected to wear analysis according to ASTM standards, to identify the tribological properties utilizing a pin on disk tribometer. It was noted that the wear rates of developed MMC’s phenomenally decremented with an increase in size of SiC particle reinforcement. Also, the test parameters were influential in altering the wear rates to notable margins. The standard scanning electron microscopy techniques aided in identifying the influence of adhesive wear on the specimen surface.

BackgroundPhysical therapists are known to be susceptible to work-related musculoskeletal disorders (WMSDs), but the prevalence of WMSDs in Saudi Arabia has not been documented. This study aimed to establish the prevalence, characteristics, and risk factors of WMSDs among physical therapists in Saudi Arabia.Material and MethodsA cross-sectional study was conducted among 113 physical therapists in Saudi Arabia using a 6-component questionnaire. Descriptive statistics, incidence, percentages, and χ2 test were used for data analysis.ResultsThe response rate was 68.8%. The reported 12-month incidence of WMSDs was 83.8%. The low back (63.7%) was the most common site of these disorders, followed by the neck (59.2%), while the hip/thigh (4.4%) was the least involved body part. Incidence was related to gender: females were more affected than males (neck, shoulders, low back); age: younger therapists were more affected than older ones (shoulders, low back); working sector: government sector workers were more affected than those employed in other sectors (neck); and specialty: orthopedic specialists were the most frequently affected, followed by those specializing in neurology (thumbs, upper back, knees, ankle/foot). Most of the physical therapists had >5 periods of neck, shoulder, and low-back WMSDs. The most important risk factor for WMSDs was treating more patients in a day (47.7%). The most frequently adopted handling strategy identified to combat WMSDS was modifying the patient’s position (62.8%).ConclusionsOverall, WMSDs among physical therapists in Saudi Arabia are common, with the low back and the neck constituting the most frequently affected body regions. Professional experience and the awareness of ergonomics principles can help prevent the early development of WMSDs among physical therapists. Med Pr. 2021;72(4):363–73
