Opis:
Purpose: In India, the cost of manpower is very low; hence Manual Material Handling (MMH) is the cheapest solution. This study aimed to quantify the cardiac strain and postural stress of male building construction workers associated with MMH tasks. Materials and methods: Mean (SD) age (years) and job experience (years) of the workers were 31.0(4.65) and 8.8 (3.23), respectively (n=35). Working peak heart rate was recorded by polar heart rate monitor, posture analysis was done by the Ovako Working Posture Analysis System (OWAS) and the Rapid Entire Body Assessment (REBA) method, body part discomfort was assessed by the Nordic questionnaire, and perceived exertion was evaluated by the Borg scale. Two-tailed unpaired Student’s t test was performed between peak heart rate of workers associated with MMH tasks and upper extremity intensive tasks (n=31). Results: Results revealed that mean peak heart rate of the workers was significantly different (higher) compared with that of the upper extremity intensive workers (p<0.05). This study showed that most of the working postures were hazardous. The magnitude of risk for musculoskeletal disorders (MSD) was much higher as per REBA compared with OWAS. Most of the workers suffered from pain in the head, neck, shoulder, lower back, and arm region. As per the Borg scale, the rate of perceived exertion was ‘hard and heavy’ among most of the workers (68.57%). Conclusions: Postural stress and cardiac strain beyond the safe limit indicates the heavy nature of the job. Load limit optimization, ergonomic lifting technique, and rescheduled work-rest cycle are essential to reducing physiological and perceived work load.

Opis:
Actin-1 is a ubiquitous protein belonging to the reproductive class of Actin family in Arabidopsis thaliana . This protein is involved in the formation of filaments that are major components of the cytoskeleton. Despite the importance of this protein, very little information is available regarding its structure and function in plants. In this study, analysis of the protein sequence was done and comparative model of Actin-1 was constructed (UNIPROT ID: P0CJ46) from Arabidopsis thaliana using the crystal structure of Dictyostelium discoideum actin (PDB ID: 1NLV-A) as template employing Modeller version 9.9. The stable structure was generated by 5 nanosecond molecular dynamics simulation steps using GROMOS43A1 96 force field that characterized its structural and dynamic feature. The biochemical function of the final simulated structure was also investigated using PROFUNC. The molecular simulation study suggested that the modeled Actin-1 protein retain its stable conformation in aqueous solution. The predicted binding sites in the modeled Actin-1 protein are very informative for further protein-ligand interaction study.

Opis:
In day to day stressful environment of IT Industry, there is a truancy for the appropriate relaxation time for all working professionals. To keep a person stress free, various technical or non-technical stress releasing methods are now being adopted. We can categorize the people working on computers as administrators, programmers, etc. each of whom require varied ways in order to ease themselves. The work pressure and the vexation of any kind for a person can be depicted by their emotions. Facial expressions are the key to analyze the current psychology of the person. In this paper, we discuss a user intuitive smart music player. This player will capture the facial expressions of a person working on the computer and identify the current emotion. Intuitively the music will be played for the user to relax them. The music player will take into account the foreground processes which the person is executing on the computer. Since various sort of music is available to boost one's enthusiasm, taking into consideration the tasks executed on the system by the user and the current emotions they carry, an ideal playlist of songs will be created and played for the person. The person can browse the playlist and modify it to make the system more flexible. This music player will thus allow the working professionals to stay relaxed in spite of their workloads.

Opis:
The study aimed at reducing the occupational health and safety problems faced by the manual component insertion operators. Subjective and objective assessments, and direct observations were made in the printed circuit assembly factory. Simple and low-cost ergonomic interventions were implemented, that is, repairing chairs, reducing high workloads, assigning operators to a maximum of 2 workstations, confining machines that emitted bad smell and much noise, and providing finger work aids. The results of the interventions were reductions in operators’ work discomforts, that is, chair discomfort (by 90%), high work stress, and discomfort due to frequent change of their workstations. Their health hazards were also eliminated, that is, inhalation of toxic fumes, exposure to too much noise, and pain due to pressing sharp components.

Opis:
In the paper, the method of relative spectroreflectometry at using the infrared photodetectors with a wide diapason of the spectral photosensitivity is suggested. Methodical errors at exponential and power dependencies of the emissivity of an object on the wavelength are analysed. Possible design of a pyrometer for measurements of temperature of hot metals is described and attractiveness of quantum-well laser diodes and superlattice photodetectors based on the GaSb compounds is discussed.
W pracy zaproponowano metodę spektrofotometrii porównawczej z wykorzystaniem fotodetektorów podczerwieni o szerokim zakresie czułości spektralnej. Określono błędy systematyczne związane z wykładniczą i kątową zależnością od długości fali i współczynnika emisyjności obiektów. Przedstawiono jedną z możliwych konstrukcji pirometru do pomiaru rozgrzanych metali. Dyskutuje się również możliwość zastosowania diod laserowych o rozmiarach kwantowych oraz fotodetektorów zbudowanych w oparciu o złącza GaSb.

Opis:
An ergonomics improvement study was conducted on the visual inspection process of a printed circuit assembly (PCA) factory. The process was studied through subjective assessment and direct observation. Three problems were identified: operators’ eye problems, insufficient time for inspection and ineffective visual inspection. These problems caused a huge yearly rejection cost of US $298,240, poor quality, customer dissatisfaction and poor occupational health and safety. Ergonomics interventions were made to rectify the problems: reduced usage of a magnifying glass, the use of less glaring inspection templates, inspection of only electrically non-tested components and introduction of a visual inspection sequence. The interventions produced savings in rejection cost, reduced operators’ eye strain, headaches and watery eyes, lowered the defect percentage at customers’ sites and increased the factory’s productivity and customer satisfaction.
