Opis:
We review our recent optical experiments on two-dimensional electron systems at temperatures below 1 K and under high magnetic fields. The two-dimensional electron systems are realized in modulation-doped GaAs-AlGaAs single quantum wells. Via gate electrodes the carrier density of the two-dimensional electron systems can be tuned in a quite broad range between about 1×10$\text{}^{10}$ cm$\text{}^{-2}$ and 2×10$\text{}^{11}$ cm$\text{}^{-2}$. In dilute two-dimensional electron systems, at very low electron densities, we observe the formation of negatively charged excitons in photoluminescence experiments. In this contribution we report about the observation of a dark triplet exciton, which is observable at temperatures below 1 K and for electron filling factors <1/3, i.e., in the fractional quantum Hall regime only. In experiments where we have increased the density of the two-dimensional electron systems so that a uniform two-dimensional electron system starts to form, we have found a strong energy anomaly of the charged excitons in the vicinity of filling factor 1/3. This anomaly was found to exist in a very narrow parameter range of the density and temperature, only. We propose a model where we assume that localized charged excitons and a uniform Laughlin liquid coexist. The localized charged exciton in close proximity to the Laughlin liquid leads to the creation of a fractionally-charged quasihole in the liquid, which can account for the experimentally observed anomaly.

Opis:
The improvement of product quality as well as the increase of production efficiency is inevitable in modern manufacturing processes. In this regard an increased cutting speed causes dangerous process situations in respect to operator safety and machine damage. In addition to that wood working machines generally do not use process monitoring systems, e. g. tool breakage monitoring. The aim of this project was the development of a process monitoring system to increase safety in wood working processes. Therefore, the Institute of Machine Tools and Production Technology (IWF) and the Fraunhofer-Institute of Surface Engineering and Thin Films (FhG IST) developed a sensor-integrated tool holder, which is able to detect clamping forces and unbalances during the process. The hollow shank taper 'HSK-63-F' was chosen as tool holder as it is used in the majority of applications in wood working processes. The clamping and balance conditions are measured by an embedded piezo-resistive thin film sensor at the planar contact surface. To ensure a contact-free signal transmission a telemetric system was used. The interaction between this monitoring system and the machine control automatically activates an emergency stop. Hence, a system was developed which significantly increases the process safety during the run-up and the idle speed phase of the spindle.

Opis:
This paper proposes a comprehensive study on machine listening for localisation of snore sound excitation. Here we investigate the effects of varied frame sizes, and overlap of the analysed audio chunk for extracting low-level descriptors. In addition, we explore the performance of each kind of feature when it is fed into varied classifier models, including support vector machines, k-nearest neighbours, linear discriminant analysis, random forests, extreme learning machines, kernel-based extreme learning machines, multilayer perceptrons, and deep neural networks. Experimental results demonstrate that, wavelet packet transform energy can outperform most other features. A deep neural network trained with subband Energy ratios reaches the highest performance achieving an unweighted average recall of 72.8% from four types for snoring.
