In meinem Beitrag rekonstruiere ich die Parallelen, die zwischen Siegfried Kracauers spätem Text „History. The last things before the last“ und Adornos Auffassung einer essayistischen Schreibweise bestehen. Ausgehend von Kracauers Anspruch, eine Methodologie zu entwickeln, die den besonderen Anforderungen des Essayismus genügt, versuche ich zu zeigen, dass er eine systematische Schwächung der auktorialen Sprechposition des Theoretikers vollzieht. Diese lässt sich weniger als eine problematische Verallgemeinerung, denn als verallgemeinerte Problematisierung verstehen, da sie – unter Rückgriff auf Erich Auerbachs Konzeption der figura – als rhetorische Figuration inszeniert wird. Die Sphäre der Rhetorik wird so zum Ausgangspunkt einer reflexiven Methodologie, die auf ihren prekären verallgemeinernden Status verweist.
In my paper I describe the parallels between Siegfried Kracauer’s late work „History. The last things before the last“ and Adorno’s understanding of an essayistic mode of writing. On the basis of Kracauer’s claim of developing a critical methodology which fulfils the specific requirements of his essayism I try to demonstrate how he systematically performs a weakening of the theorist’s voice within his text. By referring to Erich Auerbach’s concept of figura, this strategy can be understood as a quasi-methodical paradigm expounding an assumingly omniscient point of view. - Źródło:
