Opis:
The paper presents Silberg’s and Armstrong’s Index of Suicidal Behaviours for Adolescents (1992) in the light of contemporary researches by way of Rorschach method used to assess the risk of suicide. Erwin Ringel’s theory of the presuicidal syndrome was used as a background for Rorschach suicidal indices. The theory takes the presuicidal state in a psychodynamic way in the following aspects: situational limitation, dynamic limitation, social contacts and the world of value, with accompanied strong suicidal fantasies, impulsiveness and self-aggression. The following indices have been obtained: FV + VF + V > 0; light-and-shade colours >1; MOR > 0; M. -> 1; CF + C > FC and special signatures >9 differentiate on the basis of four out of six characteristics 75% of subjects after suicidal attempts from the remaining persons and depressive patients. The result was obtained on the basis of statistic analysis by x-square test at the level p.<0.005. This analysis allows us to state that the Rorschach Index of Suicidal Behaviours for Adolescents to a great extent corresponds with Ringel’s theory and serves to empirically define the potentiality of suicidal threat, when the assessment of the patient’s clinical image becomes insufficient.

Opis:
We analyzed the relationship between personality traits and smoking status and nicotine withdrawal symptoms using two comprehensive models of personality: the Five-Factor Model and the Cloninger`s Temperament and Character Inventory. In total 295 people were examined, 149 smokers and 146 who have never smoked. To measure the severity of the nicotine dependence we used the Fagerstroem Tolerance Questionnaire and the DSM-IV criteria of nicotine dependence and to measure the nicotine withdrawal symptoms the Nicotine Dependence History. The results showed significant differences between the groups in particular dimensions: Neuroticism, Agreeableness and Conscientiousness. The analyse of the TCI demonstrate, that smokers are higher in Novelty Seeking and lower in Reward Dependence than never smokers and show less Self-Directness and Cooperativeness. The mediation analyses showed that Self-Directness is the significant mediator between Extra-Introversion and nicotine withdrawal symptoms measured by NDHIS and between Neuroticism and DSMIV criteria of nicotine dependence.

Opis:
The aim of this study was to analyze the link between body image, self-regulation and stress in late adolescence and early adulthood on the basis of Personality Systems Interaction Theory by J. Kuhl. The subjects of the study were people attending fi tness clubs and gyms (N = 29) and those who did not pursue any physical activity (N = 29). Body image was assessed by means of the “body and self-esteem” scale from the Eating Disorder Cognition Questionnaire (FEDK, Legenbauer, Vocks, and Schütt-Strömel, 2007), self-regulation was assessed by means of the Action Control Scale (ASC 90, Kuhl, 1994a; 2001), and stress bymeans of the “demands” and “threats” scales from the Volitional Component Questionnaire (Kuhl, Furmann, 1998). Analyzes showed that there are no differences between adolescents and young adults in body image, self regulation, and stress level. It was found that the physically active group has a negative body image in comparison with the physically inactive group. However, there is a relationship between body dissatisfaction, state orientation subsequent to failure, and stress (demands). A mediation analysis additionally showed that stress was an important mediator between action control and body image.

Opis:
Self-regulation, anxiety, depressiveness, personalisty styles, and work preoccupation in young adults The aim of the study was the analysis of the relationships between self-regulation, action/state orientation, personality styles and the levels of anxiety and depression in people who are preoccupied with work, in their early adulthood. The theoretical background for our study was the Action Control and the Personality System Interaction theory by Julius Kuhl. In order to measure preoccupation with work we used The Preoccupation with Work Scale, the anxiety and depression levels were explored using the The State-Trait Anxiety Inventory and The Beck Depression Inventory, respectively. Self – regulation was assessed by using the Volitional Component Questionnaire and action vs. state orientation by using the Action Control Scale. The Personality Styles and Disorders Inventory, was employed to measure the different personality styles. 80 company employees (36 women and 44 men) from corporate enterprises in Wroclaw and Krakow participated in the research. We confi rmed that the levels of anxiety and depression can be viewed as predictors for preoccupation with work in early adulthood. The study also showed the protective effect of action orientation on the development of these psychological symptoms in people who are preoccupied with work. Those individuals most commonly displayed the obsessive – compulsive, narcissistic, and optimistic personality style.
