Opis:: The aim of this paper is to show that the novels El Señor Presidente (1946) by Asturias, El otoño del patriarca (1975) by García Márquez and La fiesta del Chivo (2000) by Vargas Llosa represent dictatorship as a mythical‑ritual system. The discourses the autocratic power creates and promotes, reveal mythological characteristics: atemporality, cult of personality and a manichaean genealogic narrative, all subjugated to the functional explanation‑legitimization axis. The latter should be understood - rather than in rational terms - as a performative action, which takes place via a ritual system, constantly re‑actualizing the original mythical narrative. The modalities of ritual we distinguish in the three texts are: tortures, national holiday and sexuality. All these activities - indistinctly if performed by the dictator himself or by his institutional machinery - reveal common characteristics, among which I stress the condition of ‘excess’ regarding their hypothetical pragmatic role. Opis:: This paper argues that Mario Vargas Llosa’s novel The Feast of the Goat (2000) uses the images of the bodies of three of its characters (Urania Cabral, Trujillo and Agustín Cabral) to represent the mechanisms of state terrorism at the time of Trujillo’s dictatorship in the Dominican Republic. It is a traumatizing system, which leaves somatic marks in all the actors involved. We analyze the manners in which the Peruvian author uses the images of protagonists’ organic processes to sketch the psychical, emotional and ideological processes and states, linked to or generated by the policies of intimidation.

Opis:: The article is aimed at pointing out the messianic dimension of Clarice Lispector’s writings. We intend to describe the post-secular vision of the collective redemption embedded in her work as essentially opposed to the vulgarized notion of political messianism. Its core element is the establishment of a new kind of justice, one that would overcome the essential hypocrisy deeply rooted in the ontological system based on individual identities. Giorgio Agamben’s and Agata Bielik-Robson’s ideas are evoked in order to analyze the meaning of the chronicle “Mineirinho” (1962) and its relations with other canonic texts by the Brazilian author.

Opis:: The aim of this article is, on the one hand, to show Franz Joseph Gall as an important figure for setting up the ideological framework for modern biopolitics and, on the other, to look at the literary traces of his personal engagement in this endeavour. In the first part, we place his thought in the ideological context of the 18th and 19th century; the second one analyses the images of the patients created by the author, in order to show their different configurations: while some appear as reduced to the role of homo sacer (Giorgio Agamben’s term), others are inscribed in a dignifying discourse. We look at the political implications of this situation.
