Conceptually, a living values-based authentic assessment is one that amalgamates living values and living values education principles into civic education learning assessments by taking into account the principles of authentic assessment, the core and basic competencies in the curriculum, the main characteristics in the educational program for strengthening character, principles for writing questions based on higher-order thinking skills, and principles for preparing assessments. The types of authentic assessment developed herein are attitude assessment and self-assessment. Based on the results of the validation of experts and practitioners, it is found that the majority (82.84%) rated the authentic assessment instruments as good.

This study describes the model of living values education (LVE) in school habituation activities and its impact on character development. It employs the design of research and development in junior and senior high-schools in Bandung. The model of LVE in school habituation is carried out by clearly defining the values of life and expected behaviors, learning of values in the real life contexts, regular awards for expected behaviors, proactive correction of deviant behaviors through clear procedures, and by using the principle of example, correction, awards, and enforcement. The application of the model of LVE in school habituation significantly affects the student’s character development by 42.1%. Thus, the model of LVE in habituation program can be implemented in schools.

The presented study aims to describe a service learning model in social studies in order to foster student social care. The research adopted a Research and Development design, with junior high school students in Bandung, Indonesia, as research subjects. Service learning in social studies is a learning framework that is developed by changing students’ learning experience by capitalizing more on the application of knowledge to provide benefits to the environment. Service learning activities were carried out in four types, namely direct service learning, indirect service learning, advocacy service learning, and research service learning. The activities were performed through stages: determining learning objectives, designing-implementing-monitoring service learning activities, presenting service learning activity reports, clarifying and reflecting on social awareness values. After the application of the service learning model in social studies, students showed a very high level of social care.

The research team sought to develop learning media of Indonesian history based on the historical reproduction of replicas of historical heritage objects and electronic pen (e-pen) maps. In general, the objective of this research is to develop and produce learning media of Indonesian history to raise students’ historical consciousness. An instructional media company, “Pudak Scientific,” is involved in aiding in developing and producing history learning media. A multi-year research and development approach was adopted, in which the first year focused on developing the model/prototype of the learning media in question, whereas the second year was concerned with building the product prototypes, production trials and field validation in high school. The learning media under development is in the form of i) replicas of historical objects in prehistoric era, ii) replicas of historical objects during the Hindu Buddhist era, iii) replicas of historical objects during the Islamic Empire, and e-pen maps of three historical periods of Indonesia. Replicas and e-pen maps serve as a medium to assist students in raising their historical consciousness.

This research develops AR in the form of Smart Indonesia Maps, which display information about natural features, geography, flora and fauna, culture, and social life on Indonesian islands in real-time. The objective of this research was to develop an AR-based Smart Indonesia Maps model as a digital learning resource in social studies learning. Embracing a Research and Development model has completed the preliminary field-testing stage of all ten stages of research. Limited trials were undertaken at state/private junior high schools in Bandung City, Bandung Regency, and West Bandung Regency, West Java Province, Indonesia, with the students and teachers as the research subjects. The data collection techniques included observation, interviews, document studies, focus group discussions, and attitude scale questionnaires. The results demonstrate that: Smart Indonesia Maps consist of main material objects by revealing the culture of the five major islands in Indonesia. The production of the model constituted three stages, namely pre-production, production, and post-production. The model was quite effective in fostering student critical thinking and creativity.
