Opis:
Adenosine (Rys. 1) is a purine nucleoside playing an important role in human body. It is involved in key pathways such as purinergic nucleic acid base synthesis, amino acid metabolism and modulation of cellular metabolic status [1,2]. Adenosine acts through the four types of adenosine receptors: A1, A2A, A2B and A3 belonging to the G protein-coupled receptor family [3]. In physiological conditions this nucleoside is present in a micromolar range [5]. However, when metabolic stress occurs extracellular level of adenosine raises revealing its protective properties. Depending on an activated receptor subtype, adenosine demonstrates cardioprotective and neuroprotective activity during hypoxia or ischemia, it stimulates the immunological system [6, 7]. Besides many potential applications, adenosine is used mainly for the treatment of paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia. Limitations are linked to a very short blood half-time and no receptor specificity [8]. This review is focused on novel literature data about synthesis of adenosine analogues with interesting biological activities. In order to influence adenosine receptor selectivity and pharmacokinetic properties a nucleoside structure can be modified in purine [14, 15, 17, 22, 26, 27, 35] or sugar ring [29, 32]. New interesting compounds are also synthesized by cyclisation of adenosine [36]. Modification of adenosine structure allowed obtaining compounds with targeted action: antiarrhythmic [11, 12], antinociceptive [9], antilipolytic [13], antiviral [29] or anticancer [35].

Opis:
The advent of synchrotron sources has led to an increasing availability of high resolution Compton profiles J(p$\text{}_{z}$) and a consequent renewed interest in the reconstruction of the corresponding full momentum densities ρ(p). We present results of applying a new method in which the radial parts of ρ(p) and the measured profiles are expressed in terms of the Jacobi polynomials. The technique is demonstrated using model projections that correspond to Mg and Gd spectra. Reconstructed densities, being in very good agreement with model ones, are a very good performance of our new reconstruction algorithm.

We demonstrate which kind of information on the electronic structure one can get from one-dimensional profiles, interpreted in terms of two-dimensional reconstructed densities. The conversion from one-dimensional to two-dimensional is applied to one-dimensional angular correlation of annihilation radiation profiles of divalent hexagonal close packed metals Mg and Cd. On the example of Mg we show that one should be very careful while studying the Fermi surface from electron-positron (e-p) densities folded into the first Brillouin zone.

Opis:
Electrical resistivity and low temperature magnetoresistivity measurements made on a single crystal of $UCu_2Si_2$ are reported. By using as a phonon reference the temperature dependence of the electrical resistivity of $ThCu_2Si_2$ we could establish that $UCu_2Si_2$ has both a ferromagnetic and a Kondo behaviour. Such a phenomenon can be described by the underscreened Kondo lattice model. The magnetoresistivity revealed the presence of magnetic fluctuations within the ferromagnetic order as it was reported previously for $UGe_2$. Also one of the calculated Fermi surface sheets exhibits nesting properties, being in perfect agreement with the previous neutron diffraction data, supporting the possibility of a presence of the spin density wave phase. In this ternary silicide, where the strong ferromagnetic behaviour exists, this phase is signalised by magnetic fluctuations.

Opis:
We study the electronic structure of iron-based superconductors $FeSe_{1-x}Te_x$ within the density functional theory. We pay particular attention to the pressure effects on the Fermi surface (FS) topology, which seem to be correlated with a critical superconducting temperature $T_C$ of iron chalcogenides and pnictides. A reduction of the FS nesting between hole and electron cylinders with increasing pressure is observed, which can lead to higher values of $T_C$. The tellurium substitution into selenium sites yields FS changes similar to the pressure effect.

The most effective and popular algorithms to reconstruct the three-dimensional electron-positron momentum density from the measurements of the two-dimensional angular correlation of annihilation radiation are based on the Fourier transform or polynomial expansion. We compare the efficacy of different methods in reconstructing the momentum density of the rare-earth based compounds $ErGa_3$, $CeIn_3$ and model profiles, presenting also our new filtering algorithm.

Opis:
Methods of optical imaging used in medical diagnostic (with taking the newest diagnostic techniques into consideration in particular) have been presented. Selected optical characteristics of tissues having an influence on the range of the classical methods of the optical imaging have been discussed in detail. The respond to the classical method limitations was to use scanning methods and detection techniques consisting in three-dimensional imaging of tissue structures in real time. A specific eye structure allows the wide using of these techniques in ophthalmology. Such advantages like non-invasiveness, non-contactness and high resolution (guaranteeing the safety of a patient) show a huge success of these techniques. The results of the research (conducted in many research centers) point at the wider application possibility of optical scanning method in medical diagnostic.
