Opis:
The objective of this study was to study the seed quality aspects of wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) and the extent of weed seed contamination present in wheat seeds produced in different regions of Iran. Four districts (cities), each including 12 fields (six certified seed fields and six farm-saved seed fields), were selected in each regions (provinces). One kilogram of the wheat seed sample was collected from each field for analysis in the laboratory. Wheat seeding was commonly done by farm-saved seed sourced from within the farm due to the high costs of certified seeds purchased from outside sources, followed by the low seed quality. The use of a farm-saved seed resulted in a higher germination rate and a lower mean time to germination compared with another system. The more positive temperatures experienced by mother plants could decrease the number of normal seedling and seedling length vigor index. Generally there was virtually no difference about physiological quality between certified seed and farm- saved seed sector that is related to lower quality of certified seed. The certified produced seeds had the lower number of weed seed, species and genus before and after cleaning. The highest seed purity and 1000 seed weight was obtained from the certified seed production system. The need for cleaning the farm-saved seed samples before sowing is one of the important findings of this survey.

Bactericera tremblayi (Wagner, 1961) (Hemiptera: Triozidae) is reported on Brassica oleracea var. capitata (Brassicaceae) in northwestern Iran. Tamarixia monesus (Walker) (Hymenoptera: Chalcidoidea, Eulophidae) was reared for the first time on B. tremblayi, and compared with Tamarixia tremblayi, another parasitoid of B. tremblayi. This is a new record of T. monesus from the Middle East.

Opis:
Objectives The aim of this study is to assess the sleep quality and sleep disorders (prevalence of obstructive sleep apnea and sleepiness) among occupational drivers in Iran and to determine which demographic factors and occupational habits are linked to road traffic accidents. Material and Methods In this analytic cross-sectional study 556 occupational road drivers from Shahroud city (in the northeast of Iran) participated, upon a prior verbal informed consent, during 2013–2014. The Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) standard questionnaire that scored on 7 point scale, the 8-item Epworth Sleepiness Scale (ESS) questionnaire and the 8-question STOP-Bang questionnaire along with demographic information and occupational data were used. To explore the independent factors associated with odds of poor sleep quality and road accident, multiple logistic regression models were used. Results Prevalence of previous road accidents, sleepiness while driving, and obstructive sleep apnea scored ≥ 3 in the study, and drivers accounted for 23.8%, 29%, and 24.8%, respectively. The global mean score of sleep quality and excessive sleepiness score were 5.2 and 4.8, respectively. The main factors related to the odds of poor sleep quality were snoring (odds ratio (OR) = 2.34; 95% confidence interval (CI): 1.15–4.77), smoking (OR = 2.12; 95% CI: 1.15–3.97), and driving times in a day (OR = 1.12; 95% CI: 1.03–1.21). The Epworth Sleepiness Scale (OR = 1.13; 95% CI: 1.07–1.23) and suffering from apnea (OR = 4.89; 95% CI: 1.07–23.83) were the best predictors for odds (increased risk) of road accidents. Conclusions A considerable proportion of Iranian drivers had records of road accidents; poor sleep quality, sleepiness while driving, and sleep disorder breathing (obstructive sleep apnea – OSA). Snoring, smoking, driving time in a day, excessive sleepiness, and presumably apnea increase the odds of poor sleep quality and road traffic accident for Iranian occupational drivers.

Opis:
Nowadays, the use of smart materials in structures is a major concern to structural engineers. The act of benefiting from numerous advantages of these materials is the main objective of researches and studies focused on seismic and structural engineering. In the present study, in addition to the development of finite element models of several steel frames using ABAQUS software, the effect of shape memory alloys (SMAs) on superelastic behavior and the various types of eccentric braces will be checked. Moreover, it was observed that the use of SMAs within various types of bracing systems of steel frames leads to a decrease in the reduction factor of the frames. Also, the eccentric bracing in which SMAs are utilized in the middle of bracing led to the highest effect on reduction of lateral drift of the frames and decrease of reduction factor. The obtained results indicated that the application of smart materials led to increasing of strain energy and base shear of the first plastic hinge, which is followed by a decrease in the reduction factor of the frame.
