Opis:
Abstract A hydrodynamics + hadronic rescattering model is used to simulate Au+Au collisions at 200 GeV and a Cooper-Frye method is adopted for hadronization. The effect of hadronic rescattering on elliptic flow V2 in 20 40% Au+Au collisions at 200 GeV has been investigated. It is found that the hadronic rescattering can suppress elliptic flow V2 and makes an asymmetric system in momentum space tend to be less anisotropic. The suppression effect becomes weak with increasing transverse momentum. In addition, the effect of hadronic rescattering on transverse momentum spectra and anisotropy of hadronic coordinate space is presented.

Amalia Sa’ar (University of Haifa, Israel)Sarai Aharoni (Ben-Gurion University, Israel) Alisa Lewin (University of Haifa, Israel) Fencing In and Out: Israel's Separation Wall and the Whitewashing of State Violence Abstract: This essay uses the case of Israel's Separation Wall to address the role of walls in the articulation of security, violence, vulnerability, and danger. In Israel, "security" refers exclusively to the Jewish citizens, whether they are fenced in (residing within the Green Line) or outside it (such as West Bank settlers). For the Palestinians, by contrast, the wall is yet another instrument of structural and symbolic violence. While Israeli Jews are vaguely aware of "the occupation," they largely remain blissfully unaware of the violent under-side of everyday civil security, which the wall represents. Tracing the ways in which Jewish citizens living inside the Green Line experience and accommodate the wall, this essay analyzes its role in whitewashing state violence and in the ongoing construction of subject positions with respect to the security-violence complex.  Keywords: security, state violence, gated communities, misrecognition, the political, Israel-Palestine, Separation Wall

This study presents the first molecular and serological evaluation of Echinococcus granulosus infections in wild boars in Iran. Twenty five wild boars were collected in south-western Iran, during authorized hunting program, from March to October 2013, necropsied and examined for E. granulosus infection. Furthermore, seroprevalence of cystic echinococcosis in hunted boars was evaluated by an ELISA system. A fertile hydatid cyst due to E. granulosus was detected in the lung of one of the animals. Genotype analysis of the isolate was determined by analyzing a mitochondrial gene, cytochrome C oxidase subunit 1 (co1). DNA was extracted from the cyst sample and polymerase chain reaction amplification and DNA sequencing of the specific region of the co1 gene was performed. Molecular evaluation confirmed the presence of a sheep strain, the G1 genotype, in the wild boar in south-western Iran. This is the first report of the presence of G1 genotype of E. granulosus in wild boar in Iran. Serological evaluation of hydatid cyst by antigen-B ELISA revealed E. granulosus antibodies in 5 (20%) of 25 wild boars. A statistically significant difference was observed between the prevalence of E. granulosus antibodies and gender while the difference between the seroprevalence of E. granulosus and age was insignificant. Findings of this study might have important implications for the prevention and control of cystic echinococcosis.

Opis:
Trichoderma hamatum (Bonord.) Bainier was evaluated for its antagonistic potential against Fusarium oxysporum Schlecht. emend. Snyder and Hansen sp. lentis, the causal agent of vascular wilt disease of lentil (Lens culinaris Medikus). Hyphal interactions on Petri plates resulted in an increase in the number of conidial spores and an increase in the vegetative growth of T. hamatum, and a decrease in the hyphal formation and sporulation of F. oxysporum f. sp. lentis. Electron and light microscopical observations suggested that hyphae of T. hamatum established aggressive contact and attachment with the hyphae of the pathogen. Growing in parallel, coiled densely and tightly, T. hamatum may penetrate those of the pathogen hyphae causing collapse due to the loss of turgor pressure. The cellulolytic enzymes produced by T. hamatum presented sufficient characteristics for its antifungal activity in the hyphae hydrolysis and competition process. In growth room and glasshouse experiments, the addition of the conidial suspension of T. hamatum or its culture filtrate to soil, significantly (p ≤ 0.05) reduced development and spore germination of F. oxysporum. In the rhizosphere, T. hamatum occupied the same ecological niches (rhizosphere, roots, and stems) parasitizing F. oxysporum f. sp. lentis. Treatments using T. hamatum delayed the time of infection by F. oxysporum, promoted the growth, and increased the dry weight of a susceptible variety of lentil (cv. Precoz). The percent of mortality was reduced to 33 and 40% when using T. hamatum and its filtrate, respectively, compared to 93% in the control treatment during the 65 days of growing in loam/sand (2:1 vol/vol) under glasshouse conditions. Plant colonization results indicate that T. hamatum and its filtrate significantly (p ≤ 0.05) reduced development of the pathogen in the vascular tissue of lentil to < 30 and < 40% stem colonization, respectively, compared to 100% in the plant pathogen control. Our results suggest that potential biocontrol mechanisms of T. hamatum towards F. oxysporum f. sp. lentis were antibiosis by production of antifungal enzymes, complex mechanisms of mycoparasitism, competition for key nutrients and/or ecological niches, growth promotion, and a combination of these effects. This study results hold important suggestions for further development of effective strategies of the biological control of Fusarium vascular wilt of lentil.

Opis:
Integrated soil nutrient management is required to increase and sustain agricultural productivity. Assessment of soil, organic matter and nutrient losses was carried out in a 3-year integrated maize cropping system in Ghana. The treatments: no-till (NT), minimum tillage (MT), conventional tillage (CT) and soil amendments (Control, NPK, poultry manure and their combination), were arranged in a factorial design. The results showed soil loss to range from 0.140- 4.907 Mg·haˉ¹ in the order of NT < MT < CT < Bare. Soil loss reduction over the Bare was 88% by ½ Rates of NPK+PM, 87% by PM and 85% by NPK. Soil depth reductions in NT and MT were 92% lower than in CT. The loss of organic matter ranged from 47.6 kg·haˉ¹ to 120.70 kg/ha and was in the order of Bare > CT > MT > NT. Nutrient losses followed the same trend. Losses in soil organic matter, N, P, K, Ca, Mg and Na under tillage x soil amendments interactions were higher in the CT and bare plots. NT and MT, which were recognised as conservation tillage systems, amended with combination of organic and mineral fertilisers were found as better options in minimising soil quality degradation.

Opis:
The genus Leinzia is a typical member of the renowned Artinskian–Wuchiapingian (Permian) endemic bivalve fauna of the Passa Dois Group, Paraná Basin, Brazil. The extraordinary shells of Leinzia, characterized by a rostrum extending from the anterior cardinal margin led certain authors to regard them as bivalved arthropods (Spinicaudata). Due to the unusual morphology and typically poor preservation of the available specimens, the taxonomic position of Leinzia still remains obscure. Leinzia has been variously referred either to the Pterioida, the Crassatelloidea, the Sanguinolitidae, or the Megadesmidae, or to the Pholadomyida. Herein, based on a detailed review of the topotype material and description of newly found specimens of Leinzia from the Serrinha Member, Rio do Rasto Formation, southern Brazil, we shed light on the taxonomic position of this genus. The hinge of the right valve with its large, blunt, anteriorly inclined subumbonal tooth and corresponding socket in the left valve coupled with the absence of true lateral teeth indicate close affinities to Pyramus and Cowperesia. Thus, the data here strongly suggest a Pachydomidae (Edmondioidea) rather than a Crassatelloidea affinity for Leinzia. Conversely, Leinzia differs from all other known Pachydomidae due to its anteriorly rostrate and posteriorly elongated shell. Finally, detailed stratigraphic data indicate that the vertical distribution of Leinzia is constrained to the middle part of the Guadalupian Serrinha Member of the Rio do Rasto Formation.

Opis:
This research analysed livelihood diversification and income in resident communities along the Kiri Dam, Adamawa state, Nigeria. The specific objectives of the study were: to describe the socio-economic characteristics of the respondents, assess the level of livelihood diversification of the respondents, analyse income of the respondents, identify factors associated with varying levels of income, and identify constraints to livelihood diversification in the area. A multistage sampling technique was used to collect primary data from 120 respondents from the study area. The data collected were subjected to descriptive and inferential statistical analysis. The results showed that the majority of the respondents were male (78%), married (76%), educated (70%), below 60 years of age (93%) and employed in agricultural activities (83%). The Simpson index of diversification shows that 43% of the respondents diversify at an average level. The majority (60%) of the respondents’ annual income is over ₦ 200,000. The ordinary least square estimation shows that age, marital status, education, irrigation activities, fishing, farm size and level of diversification affect income level in the area. The main constraints to diversified livelihood in the area were a lack of basic social infrastructure, a hippopotamus menace and flooding. The study recommended the provision of social infrastructure and the control of hippopotamuses.

Seed and seedling vigour is an aspect of seed quality which affects field establishment and performance. Low maize yields have been reported  to be affected by several factors in which poor quality seed with low seed and seedling vigour. Information is scarce on seed and seedling vigour in maize inbred lines developed for tropical environments. Fifteen genotypes of tropical maize (Zea mays L.) inbred lines were evaluated to determine the level of differences in seed and seedling vigour traits, and extent of relationships among traits and their heritability. A substantial amount of genetic variability was found, which suggested that most of the traits under study could be improved through selection and utilized in breeding programs. Positive and signifi- cant interrelationship  among  seed germination  and seedling  traits  and  a positive  correlation  between  seed germination and seed vigour and field emergence showed that these could be given due consideration in crop improvement for seed and seedling vigour. High genotypic coefficient of variation, heritability and genetic advance were obtained for seed germination, seed emergence, shoot length and seedling vigour index I and II, revealing the possibility of improvement in these characters through direct selection. The principal component analysis (PCA) identified seed emergence, shoot length, seedling vigour index I and II and tetrazolium vigour as characters that contributed greatly to variation in seed vigour in the maize inbred lines. Cluster analysis partitioned the genotypes into two groups, with group I consisting of seven genotypes and group II comprised the other eight genotypes, which suggested that hybridization between the two groups could lead to high level of heterosis. Genotype V5  had superior seedling vigour traits compared to other genotypes. Seedling emer- gence, shoot length, seedling vigour index I, seedling vigour index II and tetrazolium vigour are effective characters for good seedling vigour traits in maize inbred lines investigated.

A field experiment was conducted at Landmark University Omu-Aran, Nigeria from June to November 2017 and repeated at the same time in the year 2018 on a nematode infested soil to evaluate the effects of different amounts of Siam weed compost on the performance of root-knot nematode (RKN) infested tomato. The compost was applied a week before planting as soil amendment at the amount of 0.0, 0.5, 1.5, and 2.0 t·ha-1, while carbofuran was applied at the rate of 3.0 kg·ha-1. Four weeks old tomato seedlings cultivar ‘Roma VF’, which is susceptible to RKN, was transplanted to already prepared soil. Results of the experiment showed that the compost, especially in the amount 2 t·ha-1 and carbofuran at 3 kg·ha-1, brought about significant reduction of the population of RKN in soil and roots, and a significant increase in the growth and yield of tomato. The result of the experiment showed that Siam compost can be used for the managing root-knot nematodes in tomato cultivation, as an environmentally safe factor.
