The factors influencing the atmosphere-ocean transfer of mass and momentum, as well as incipient wave breaking and the amount of energy dissipated due to breaking, are discussed in detail. In particular, the influence of directional spreading on the statistics of surface wave slopes and the area of the wind- roughened ocean surface is demonstrated. Theoretical analysis and comparison with the available experimental data show that unimodal directional spreading is not able to reproduce the observed ratio of the cross-wind/up-wind mean square slopes. Better agreement is achieved when bimodal directional spreading, consisting of two wrapped-Gaussian distributions, is applied. The bimodal form suggested by Ewans (1998) is used in the paper. Moreover, the formulae developed here show that the increase in the area due to surface waves is rather small for both regular and irregular waves.

Opis:
The motion of water due to surface waves is the most dynamic factor observed in the marine environment. In this review various aspects of the wave modelling of non-linear, steep surface waves and their role in the atmosphere-ocean interaction are discussed. Significant improvements in wave forecasting have been made in the last ten years. This is to a large extent related to substantial progress in the description of wind forcing and other processes, as well as to the more efficient use of satellite observations and assimilation methods. One striking observation is the increasing variety and complexity of models in which more physical processes are implemented, greater precision and resolution achieved and extended ranges of applicability demonstrated. However, in order to evaluate the applicability of particular models, comparison with high quality experimental data, collected in nature or under laboratory conditions, is necessary.

Sandy beaches are highly exploited but very dynamic and fragile environments. Driven by waves, the water flow through the beach body is able to transport oxygen, and hence help to maintain biological activity in the porous media. The paper presents a theoretical attempt to predict the groundwater circulation due to wave set-up. Two systems of circulations have been discovered, related to two different gradients of the set-up height. For the offshore gradient, the horizontal excess pressure gradient induces flow in the offshore direction. However, closer to the shore, the pressure gradient is reversed and the resulting flow moves shorewards.

Tree transducers are systems which transform trees into trees just as automata transform strings into strings. They produce transformations, i.e. sets consisting of pairs of trees where the first components are trees belonging to a first language and the second components belong to a second language. In this paper we consider hypersubstitutions, i.e. mappings which map operation symbols of the first language into terms of the second one and tree transformations defined by such hypersubstitutions. We prove that the set of all tree transformations which are defined by hypersubstitutions of a given type forms a monoid with respect to the composition of binary relations which is isomorphic to the monoid of all hypersubstitutions of this type. We characterize transitivity, reflexivity and symmetry of tree transformations by properties of the corresponding hypersubstitutions. The results will be applied to languages built up by individual variables and one operation symbol of arity n ≥ 2.

Opis:
The emergence of resistance to first-line drugs used to treat tuberculosis (TB) has become a significant public health concern and an obstacle in implementation of effective TB control activities globally. In India, Revised National TB Control Program (RNTCP) introduced the programmatic management of drug-resistant TB (PMDT) services to address the needs of MDR-TB patients. To execute the plan with perfection, RNTCP has devised MDR suspect criteria – A, B, and C so that gradually PMDT services can be extended to the whole country. These criteria were framed to run in tandem with the strengthening of the laboratory services so that the existing certified laboratories can carry out the culture and DST services without being overburdened. Altogether, RNTCP is committed for the strengthening and capacity building of its resources to offer culture and DST services right at the time of diagnosis.

Opis:
Transformation of waves on sandy beaches, their breaking, set-up and run-up are the main factors contributing to fluctuations in the water table and groundwater flow. In this paper, the run-up mechanisms have been studied using analytical models. In contrast to the standard models, the waves approaching the shoreline are assumed to be dispersive and the equivalence of the non-linear and linear solutions for the extreme characteristics of wave run-up, such as the height of maximum run-up and the velocity of run-up, are used. A linear system of equations for the run-up of breaking waves is developed. This system is based on the application of the mild-slope equation in the deeper area, where waves are dispersive, while the linear equations of shallow water are applied close to the shoreline, where the water depth is a linear function of distance. The dissipation factor in the shallow water equation has been formulated using its resemblance to the mild-slope equation for a non-permeable sea bottom. Application of the method is illustrated for various bottom profiles and wave characteristics, and theoretical results compared well with experimental data. These solutions of the run-up phenomena will assist future studies on wave-induced beach groundwater flow.

Both species are earliest Ordovician in age, with occurrence immediately above the Cambrian–Ordovician boundary. Together with the hystricurid taxon Millardicurus, the new genus is likely to serve as an indicator fossil for the Cambrian–Ordovician boundary in Laurentia, as it is already known from different biofacies on opposite margins of the continent. Tulepyge is not closely comparable with contemporaneous taxa assigned to Hystricuridae but in its dorsally convex and coarsely tuberculate exoskeleton it resembles taxa which have been referred to Dimeropygidae, most of which are considerably younger in age.

International standards for Tuberculosis care
India
Opis:
Tuberculosis (TB) is a social disease with medical aspects accounting for 8.7 million new cases and 1.4 million deaths in the year 2011 worldwide. International standards for TB care (ISTC) were formulated to develop uniform guidelines for ensuring the delivery of a widely accepted level of care by all health care practitioners in managing TB patients, or those suspected to have tuberculosis. India alone has contributed 25% of the globally reported new cases of TB in 2011 and is also the leading nation in accounting for drug resistant TB (DR-TB). Thus to develop uniform standards of TB care and to engage private sector which caters to more than 70% of TB patients, the “central TB division” has developed standards of TB care in India (STCI). These local standards have been designed after taking into account the guidelines of the World Health Organization and ISTC disease control STCI has proposed 26 standards (viz. diagnosis – 1 to 6; treatment – 7 to 11; public health – 12 to 21; social inclusion – 22 to 26) for effective prevention and control of TB. To conclude, the Indian standards of TB care have been proposed to emphasize on individual patient care and public health principles of disease control for ultimately reducing not only the suffering but also the economic losses from tuberculosis.

Opis:
Biogeochemical and trophodynamic processes as well as hydrodynamic factors play a major role in the structure and function of mangrove ecosystems. This study outlines field experiments on wave motion and suspended sediment concentration carried out at Nang Hai, Can Gio mangrove forest, Southern Vietnam. Pressure sensors were used to measure sea surface elevation, and Optical Backscatter Sensors (OBS) were applied to detect infrared (IR) radiation scattered from suspended particles in order to measure turbidity and suspended sediment concentrations. The experimental results indicate that most of the energy is dissipated inside the mangrove forest as a result of wave-trunk interactions and wave breaking. The suspended sediment concentration depends on wave intensity and tidal current velocity. Wave action is one of the main factors forcing sediment transport and coastal erosion at the study site; even the wave field at the study site is not so strong. The establishment of mangrove vegetation can encourage the deposition of sediment, or at least the retention of the flood-tide sediment influx.

A coastal aquifer has a dynamic seaward boundary at the beach face where physical and ecological processes are influenced by oceanic water level fluctuations. Many basic groundwater concepts and the role of the impact of groundwater seepage on beach ecosystems are still poorly understood. Studies are needed to improve our understanding of the relationships between surface and subsurface flow processes on beaches. This is particularly helpful in clarifying the interaction of the physical processes, biodiversity and productivity of sandy beaches, sediment transport and coastal structure stability and modern beach nourishment techniques. As the estimation of infiltration into beach sand is very difficult to carry out under real sea conditions, a control led large-scale laboratory experiment was carried out in the LargeWave Channel in Hannover (Germany) as part of a project supported by the European Community (contract HPRI-CT-2001-00157). First part of the paper describes the technology applied in the experiment and reports some preliminary results.

Biological control of plant diseases is strongly emerging as an effective alternative to the use of chemical pesticides and fungicides. Stress tolerance is an important attribute in the selection of bacteria for the development of microbial inoculants. Fourteen salt-tolerant bacteria showing different morphological features isolated from the rhizosphere of maize were evaluated for different plant growth-promoting activities. All isolates showed auxin production ranging from 5 to 24 μg ⋅ ml–1 after 48 h incubation in tryptophan supplemented media. Phosphate solubilization ranged from 15 to 419 μg ⋅ ml–1. 1-aminocycloproprane- 1-carboxylate (ACC) deaminase activity was shown by 6 isolates, ammonia production by 9 isolates, siderophore production by 8 isolates while HCN production by 4 isolates. Four bacterial isolates with all plant growth-promoting properties also showed strong antagonistic activities against Fusarium oxysporum, F. verticillioides, Curvularia lunata and Alternaria alternata and abiotic stress tolerance against salinity, temperature, pH and calcium salts. Two selected bacterial isolates significantly enhanced the growth of pea and maize test plants under greenhouse conditions. The bacterial isolate M1B2, which showed the highest growth promotion of test plants, was identified as Bacillus sp. based on phenotypic and 16S rDNA gene sequencing. The results indicated that Bacillus sp. M1B2 is a potential candidate for the development of microbial inoculants in stressful environments.

Opis:
Shrubs are widespread at higher altitudes and latitudes. Dendrochronology of shrub growth has been intensively studied in the circumpolar Arctic, Mediterranean and Patagonia. However, relatively little is known about shrub growth responses to climate change on the Tibetan Plateau. Herein, we investigate climate sensitivity of Salix oritrepha growth along a north–south (35–39° N) latitudinal gradient on the north- eastern Tibetan Plateau. Four S. oritrepha shrub sites were selected for dendrochronology study. Pearson and partial correlation analyses were used to estimate strength of the climate sensitivity of the growth time series at each site. We found that not all of the site chronologies show consistent variations. Despite of this, its ra- dial growth was primarily limited by the July mean temperature across the latitudinal gradient, and warming summer climate tends to increase the growth of S. oritrepha on the northeastern Tibetan Plateau.

The catalytic properties of Cobalt salen? complex in the oxidation of a lignin model compound [veratrylglycerol-β-guaiacyl-α,γ-dimethylether, VGD] have been investigated in order to obtain the mechanistic aspects of the reaction between Co(salen) and VGD under an oxygen atmosphere using hydrogen peroxide as an oxidant. VGD was found to undergo structural changes in response to the catalytic reaction as characterised by different analytical techniques (FT-IR, H-1 NMR and GC-MS), yielding 2-methoxy phenol and biphenyl. A mechanism for the oxidation of VGD was postulated.
W efekcie otrzymano 2-metoksy fenol i bifenyl.

This research aimed to study the effect of the position of fruits in a tree (inner or outer) and the number of fruits per panicle (one, two or three) on the growth and quality of citrus ‘Pontianak’. The study was conducted in a citrus orchard in Central Java, Indonesia for two seasons, 2014/2015 and 2015/2016. The results indicated that position of fruits on the tree did not influence weight and diameter of fruits, weight of fruit pulp, and contents of sugars and total acids. Increasing the number of fruits per panicle decreased the weight and diameter of fruits and the weight of pulp but increased the contents of vitamin C and total acids.

Opis:
Trichoderma hamatum (Bonord.) Bainier was evaluated for its antagonistic potential against Fusarium oxysporum Schlecht. emend. Snyder and Hansen sp. lentis, the causal agent of vascular wilt disease of lentil (Lens culinaris Medikus). Hyphal interactions on Petri plates resulted in an increase in the number of conidial spores and an increase in the vegetative growth of T. hamatum, and a decrease in the hyphal formation and sporulation of F. oxysporum f. sp. lentis. Electron and light microscopical observations suggested that hyphae of T. hamatum established aggressive contact and attachment with the hyphae of the pathogen. Growing in parallel, coiled densely and tightly, T. hamatum may penetrate those of the pathogen hyphae causing collapse due to the loss of turgor pressure. The cellulolytic enzymes produced by T. hamatum presented sufficient characteristics for its antifungal activity in the hyphae hydrolysis and competition process. In growth room and glasshouse experiments, the addition of the conidial suspension of T. hamatum or its culture filtrate to soil, significantly (p ≤ 0.05) reduced development and spore germination of F. oxysporum. In the rhizosphere, T. hamatum occupied the same ecological niches (rhizosphere, roots, and stems) parasitizing F. oxysporum f. sp. lentis. Treatments using T. hamatum delayed the time of infection by F. oxysporum, promoted the growth, and increased the dry weight of a susceptible variety of lentil (cv. Precoz). The percent of mortality was reduced to 33 and 40% when using T. hamatum and its filtrate, respectively, compared to 93% in the control treatment during the 65 days of growing in loam/sand (2:1 vol/vol) under glasshouse conditions. Plant colonization results indicate that T. hamatum and its filtrate significantly (p ≤ 0.05) reduced development of the pathogen in the vascular tissue of lentil to < 30 and < 40% stem colonization, respectively, compared to 100% in the plant pathogen control. Our results suggest that potential biocontrol mechanisms of T. hamatum towards F. oxysporum f. sp. lentis were antibiosis by production of antifungal enzymes, complex mechanisms of mycoparasitism, competition for key nutrients and/or ecological niches, growth promotion, and a combination of these effects. This study results hold important suggestions for further development of effective strategies of the biological control of Fusarium vascular wilt of lentil.

In the context with scientific knowledge and technical possibilities of modern medicine are rising many ethical, legal, social, psychological, economic, and specifically medical problems, also problems in therapeutic and nursing care for terminally ill and dying patients. Process of dying is moved from intimate family environment into professional institutions - clinics, departments and other health and social facilities. People are for years divided into two camps - some are strongly opposed to euthanasia and others on the other hand believe that in some conditions when the pain is unbearable even after a strong dose of morphine, suffering person becomes only a helpless „victim of medicine“.

The effect of heat treatment in applied magnetic field on the induced anisotropy and domain structure of $(Fe_{1-x}Co_x)_{79} Mo_8 Cu_1 B_{12}$ (x=0, 0.2, 0.5) nanocrystalline alloy system was investigated. A heat treatment of Co-doped samples under the application of longitudinal magnetic field resulted in squared hysteresis loops characterized by very low coercive field values. Sheared loops with tunable slope and good field linearity were obtained after annealing in transverse magnetic field. Corresponding domain structure showed uniform character, oriented in the direction parallel or perpendicular to the ribbon axis after longitudinal or transverse magnetic field annealing, respectively. No effect of magnetic field annealing was found in Co-free sample. Correlations between Co-doping, the Curie temperature, and soft magnetic properties after magnetic field annealing are discussed.

Opis:
The attachment theory by John Bowlby [2] and Mary Ainsworth [3], is an expression of the emotional attachment of a small child to the mother and other close persons. The essence of the study is to elaborate a theory of the factors of findings that influence attachment. Historically, it was assumed that the foetus lives in the womb, separated from the outside world, then it comes into contact with the world after birth. In the course of time, it has been proven that a prenatal child responds to the external environment, that all its senses are developed and that it even remembers. These facts led to the establishment of a new scientific discipline of prenatal psychology that deals with the development, effect of emotions, behaviour and experiences of a human before birth. The attachment theory was developed in that relation. In the first place, the object of attachment is the pregnant woman, who has to deal with her own physical, psychological, social and economic changes resulting from the pregnancy. In the second stage, the woman has to learn about the foetus’s – child’s possibilities, especially sensory perception, i.e. music, touch, smell, taste, sight, and about the harmful effects of the external environment that disturb attachment such as drugs and nicotine. In the third stage, the pregnant woman should learn about the methods of communication with the child. Bowlby [2] and Ainsworth [3] advise the necessity to build proper attachment, especially of the mother, from the very beginning of the pregnancy. They point out that an imperfect or pathological attachment can cause lifelong harm of the individual [2,3]. The determinant of healthy development originates in early life as social determinants of health. The determinants related to social support, socialization and stress of the mother during pregnancy and the birth of the child are influenced in the same way. The child’s perinatal and postnatal development is affected, for example, by the mother’s addictions [4].

Opis:
Disturbance rejection performance optimization with constraints on robustness for a multivariable process is commonly encountered in industrial control applications. This paper presents the tuning of a multi-loop Proportional Integral (PI) controller method to enhance the performance of load disturbance rejection using evolutionary optimization. The proposed design methodology is formulated to minimize the load disturbance rejection response and the input control energy under the constraints of robust stability. The minimum singular value of multiplicative uncertainty is considered a multi-loop system robust stability indicator. Optimization is performed to achieve the same, or higher level than the most-explored Direct Synthesis (DS) based multi-loop PI controller, which is derived from a conventional criterion. Simulation analysis clearly proved that the proposed multi-loop PI controller tuning method gives better disturbance rejection, and either, the same or a higher level of robust stability when compared to the DS-based multi-loop PI controller.
