Opis:: Postponing motherhood is a widespread phenomenon across developed countries, however only few studies look into very late motherhood in post-socialist countries using individual level data. In this study, I look at the context of the first childbirth in Poland in the midst of the political transformation of 1989. Employing sequence analysis I reconstructed life trajectories of women who experienced the transition to adulthood during the late 1980’s and the early 1990’s and have just completed their fertility histories. Individual data from the 2011 GGS-PL and the 2011 FAMWELL Survey were used. Comparing paths of mothers’ lives, I searched for differences in educational, professional and conjugal careers between women who gave birth before the age of 30 and after the age of 35. The results show how various life careers crisscross over the life course leading women to late motherhood.

Opis:: This research report presents results of a study on kindergarten teacher’s attitudes toward distance education during the COVID-19 pandemic and their associations with selected characteristics related to the teacher’s profession. The tools that the teachers used for distance education were also described. 429 correctly completed surveys were collected. The most positive opinions concerned the development of one’s professional competencies, feeling positive emotions in the relationship with children and their parents. One of the worst assessed areas was those related to the possibility of supporting the social and emotional development of children. Most of the examined aspects of professional functioning, e.g. seniority, the location of the kindergarten, did not differentiate the attitudes. The differences mainly concerned teachers of special kindergartens, who in some aspects of attitudes (e.g. positive emotions towards this form of work) obtained lower results than teachers employed in other types of kindergartens.

Opis:: The text is a report from the international conference, ‘The Identity of the Slavs past and present: language, culture, literature in young Slavists’ research’ (May 2014). The conference was organized by the Institute of Slavic Studies, the Polish Academy of Sciences, the Institute of Western and Southern Slavic Studies, Warsaw University and the Slavic Foundation. The aim of the conference was to confront the research carried out by young researchers from Poland and Slavic countries with those conducted by their colleagues from Western Europe. These researches were compared with the Slavic studies carried out in the world.
Tekst jest sprawozdaniem z międzynarodowej konferencji naukowej „Tożsamość Słowian dawniej i dziś: język, kultura, literatura w badaniach młodych slawistów” (maj 2014). Konferencja została zorganizowana przez Instytut Slawistyki Polskiej Akademii Nauk, Instytut Slawistyki Zachodniej i Południowej Uniwersytetu Warszawskiego i Fundację Slawistyczną. Jej celem było skonfrontowanie badań prowadzonych przez młodych naukowców z Polski i krajów słowiańskich z badaniami prowadzonymi przez ich kolegów z krajów Europy Zachodniej oraz porównanie ich z dominującymi tendencjami slawistyk światowych.

Opis:: The pilot study presented in this paper is exploratory in nature and aims first to investigate if there exists a relationship between the production of word stress and learners’ musical abilities, and then, to explore the effects of this relationship on teachability of word stress to Polish advanced students of English. The results of the analysis on the auditory recordings were compared with the information provided by the informants in a questionnaire and a performance music test. The obtained data were analysed using descriptive statistics. The results show that the students tend to overgeneralise word stress rules in English rather than transfer the penultimate syllable rule from Polish. In addition, there seems to be a relationship between word stress production and musical ability for the majority of the participants.
