    Celem artykułu jest przedstawienie obecnego stanu wiedzy na temat możliwości i celowości wykorzystania techniki ankiety internetowej w przeprowadzaniu badań sondażowych w schemacie mixed-mode. Ze względu na rosnące trudności w realizacji sondaży w sposób tradycyjny konieczne jest poszukiwanie nowych rozwiązań. Artykuł przedstawia główne trudności związane z zastosowaniem techniki internetowej, oraz opisane w literaturze skuteczne sposoby ich minimalizacji w niektórych obszarach, przede wszystkim poprzez mieszanie technik na wszystkich etapach badania. Wskazuje także obszary, w których obecny stan wiedzy jest niewystarczający i konieczne jest przeprowadzenie dalszych badań eksperymentalnych.
    The aim of the article is to present the current knowledge on the possibilities and the advisability of the use of online survey mode in conducting surveys in the mixed-mode design. Due to the increasing difficulty in the realization of survey research in the traditional way, it is necessary to search for new solutions. The article presents the main difficulties associated with the use of Web mode, and ways of minimizing them in some areas, mainly by mixing modes in all stages of research. The solutions are based on experiments results published in international methodological literature. Eventually it indicates areas where the current knowledge is inadequate and it is necessary to carry out further experimental research.

    Using previously established knowledge about survey mode preferences distribution in a population can be one of many ways of improving representativeness and quality of data gathered by survey research. Apart from mode preference existence and stability, the main problem concerns the question: which of the sources of information about mode preference could be treated as trustworthy. Because real observed choices are typically treated as better predictors of future choices than declaration only, this paper tries to answer the question: ‘Are the declarations a good predictor of preference in comparison to real choices?’ For this purpose, it uses combined data from 1) the 2015 Polish mixed-mode ESS experiment and 2) data from ESS8 in Poland. The multinomial logistic regression survey preference model includes socio-demographic variables accompanied by declaration/choice control variable. The results suggest significant differences between choices/declarations. Findings could be used to refine the contact strategies used in surveys.

    The aim of the article is to present a potential direction for the development of survey design research. It tries to describe the possibility of building a concept that integrates the observed consequences of survey mode preference – its impact on the response rate and the quality of responses – using the cognitive concept of working memory. It indicates the existence of a potential relationship between the aging process, or anxiety, and the diversification of information processing efficiency in the visual and aural modalities, and thus outlines the problems facing researchers planning mixed-mode surveys, especially in aging western populations.
    Celem artykułu jest przedstawienie potencjalnego kierunku rozwoju badań metodologicznych nad konstrukcją sondaży. W centrum rozważań postawiono kwestię projektowanej koncepcji integrującej zaobserwowane konsekwencje preferowania techniki sondażu przez respondentów (z uwzględnieniem wpływu sondażu na poziom realizacji badania i jakość uzyskanych odpowiedzi) przy wykorzystaniu kognitywistycznej koncepcji pamięci roboczej. Wskazano bowiem na istnienie potencjalnej relacji pomiędzy procesem starzenia się respondentów, czy odczuwanym przez nich lękiem, a różnicowaniem w sposobie przetwarzania informacji w modalności wzrokowej i słuchowej, zarysowując tym samym, jakie problemy stoją przed konstruującymi badania łączące różne techniki sondażu, między innymi w starzejących się populacjach zachodnich.

    The paper presents the possibilities of quantitative analysis of results obtained from CT examination of organs and anatomical structures of the upper respiratory tract. The presented results of the analysis were obtained using proprietary software developed in the MATLAB 2018b environment (Image Processing toolbox). The software enables to visualize the original results of CT scan and, after evaluating the visible structures, enables to select the area to be subjected to quantitative analysis. After the initial identification of an area of interest requiring detailed diagnostics, its volume and the surface areas of individual cross-sections are calculated in the area separated for examinations. A graphical presentation of the analysis results - the surface areas of selected cross-sections possible to visualize in two- and three-dimensional space - enables quick analysis of changes in the examined region.

    This article presents selected physical diagnostic methods used in otorhinolaryngology and results of their application. In addition to the applications of methods using the capabilities of selective sensors, selected methods of hybrid diagnostics were also presented - for assessment of parameters of respiratory processes, with polysomnography as an example of using both typical diagnostic methods dedicated to otolaryngology, as well as standard EEG and ECG methods. It has been shown that in some special cases of respiratory disorders, measurements of the air flow in the respiratory tract can be supplemented with pressure measurements in selected positions within the airways. The presented optical methods and diagnostic systems are very often used in the diagnosis of diseases not specific for otolaryngology occurring in the area of the head and neck. The presented material is the second part of the study discussing both standard and widely used diagnostic methods. All presented methods are dedicated to otolaryngology. This text is a continuation of the material published in No 4 of 2021 [1].

    The rapidly developing measurement techniques and emerging new physical methods are frequently used in otolaryngological diagnostics. A wide range of applied diagnostic methods constituted the basis for the review study aimed at presenting selected modern diagnostic methods and achieved diagnostic results to a wider group of users. In this part, the methods based on measuring the respiratory parameters of patients were analysed. Respiration is the most important and necessary action to support life and its effective duration. It is an actual gas exchange in the respiratory system consisting of removing CO2 and supplying O2. Gas exchange occurs in the alveoli, and an efficient respiratory tract allows for effective ventilation. The disruption in the work of the respiratory system leads to measurable disturbances in blood saturation and, consequently, hypoxia. Frequent, even short-term, recurrent hypoxia in any part of the body leads to multiple complications. This process is largely related to its duration and the processes that accompany it. The causes of hypoxia resulting from impaired patency of the respiratory tract and/or the absence of neuronal respiratory drive can be divided into the following groups depending on the cause: peripheral, central and/or of mixed origin. Causes of the peripheral form of these disorders are largely due to the impaired patency of the upper and/or lower respiratory tract. Therefore, early diagnosis and location of these disorders can be considered reversible and not a cause of complications. Slow, gradually increasing obstruction of the upper respiratory tract (URT) is not noticeable and becomes a slow killer. Hypoxic individuals in a large percentage of cases have a shorter life expectancy and, above all, deal with the consequences of hypoxia much sooner.

    The cytotoxicity of chitosan with polyvinox (PCH) and crosslinked chitosan (CH) was studied and analyzed. Cell viability was determined by thiazolyl blue formazan (MTT) assay and cell morphology observations were carried out during cell culturing and MTT tests. Crosslinked chitosan was used as a protective foil (scaffold) for skin wounds. Studies in vitro and the other obtained in this work results prove that the studied materials CH and PCH do not cause cytotoxic activity to Balb 3T3 mouse fibroblasts. CH and PCH are promising biomaterials with prospective application as wound healing dressings.

    Despite the very high percentage of long-term remissions in acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) in children, some of them suffer from recurrence of the disease. New treatment modalities, e.g. effective geno- and immunotherapy are needed. The use of neoplasmatic cells to present tumor antigens is one of the approaches in cancer vaccines. ALL cells lack the expression of costimulatory molecules and are poor antigen presenting cells (APCs) for T-cell activation. CD40/40L interaction stimulates B-cells to proliferate, differentiate, upregulate costimulatory molecules and increase antigen presentation. The aim of the study was to test the hypothesis that ALL cells can be turned into professional APCs by CD40L activation. Children with B-cell precursor ALL were enrolled into the study. Mononuclear cells from bone marrow or peripheral blood were stimulated with CD40L and interleukin 4. Results: 1) after culture we noted upregulation of all assessed costimulatory, adhesion and activatory molecules i.e. CD1a, CD11c, CD40, CD54, CD80, CD83, CD86, CD123, HLA class I and II; 2) CD40L activated ALL cells induced proliferation of allogeneic T-cells (measured by [3H]thymidine incorporation). These results confirm the possibility of enhancing the immunogenicity of ALL cells with the CD40L system and indicate that this approach can be used in immunotherapeutic trials.
