The main statistics of so called "civilization diseases" morbidity, in particular tumor and circulatory system diseases have been presented for selected industrial agglomerations; the reasons lying behind those statistics were discussed in detail. Some concepts and ideas for preventing or restricting this worrying tren in the society's health condition have been recommended. (J.W.)

W opracowaniu omówiono rolę i znaczenie winoterapii oraz jej wpływ na organizm ludzki. Podjęta problematyka była omawiana w dwóch aspektach, tj. pod kątem zastosowania winoterapii w kosmetyce i w kosmetologii oraz z punktu widzenia medycyny. W dalszej części artykułu wskazano na istotne właściwości zarówno winorośli, jak też wina; szczególnie omówione zostały polifenole, w tym resweratrol.
The paper discusses the role and importance vinotherapy and its impact on the human body. Taken the issue was discussed in two aspects, namely from vinotherapy use in cosmetics and cosmetology, and the second – from the standpoint of medicine. The remainder of this article pointed out the essential characteristics of both vines, as well as wine, especially polyphenols are discussed, including resveratrol.

The article depicts the role of European Union in the world economy in the light of globalization processes. It diagnoses many facets of the poor competitiveness of the integrated Europe such as economic performance, labour productivity as well as R&D input and output. It also shows some structural shortages of the EU economy, e.g. the European social model and the way to overcome them in terms of the Lisbon Strategy. On the grounds of the tentative assessment, some priorities for the future are drawn.

Background: The study concerned workplace mobbing, a phenomenon affecting about 3–20% of the Polish population. The aim of the article is to distinguish the manifestations of mobbing, to study the coexistence of mobbing manifestations, and to search for the relationships between the symptoms of mobbing, reactions to mobbing and methods of dealing with mobbing used by victims. Material and Methods: Information on the above variables was obtained using a questionnaire on mobbing, risk factors, and responses to mobbing. The questionnaire was completed by 781 people (women: 66%, men: 34%). The average age of the respondents was 29 years. The current statistical analysis included: distinguishing the manifestations of mobbing by means of a confirmatory factor analysis, studying the coexistence of mobbing manifestations by means of a cluster analysis, and detecting the relationships between mobbing manifestations, reactions to mobbing and ways of dealing with it based on the system of structural equations. Results: The results of the research revealed 3 categories of relationships: a co-occurrence of mobbing manifestations, a relationship of mobbing manifestations with reactions to mobbing, and a relationship of mobbing reactions with methods of dealing with mobbing. Conclusions: Mobbing was found in 22% of the examined group. The study revealed the existence of 5 clusters of mobbing manifestations (i.e., subgroups of respondents characterized by experiencing at least 1 of the mobbing manifestations). In the most numerous clusters in which the symptoms of mobbing were diagnosed, unfriendly working conditions prevailed. In the context of mobbing, people were found to more often react with passivity or with using interpersonal coping methods. Thermal spraying methods are commonly used to regenerate damaged surface or change materials surface properties. One of the newest methods is cold spraying, where coating is deposited of material in the solid state. Therefore shape and size of the powder particles are very important parameters. The article presents the influence of copper powder morphology on mechanical properties of the coatings (adhesion, hardness, Young’s modulus) deposited with the Low Pressure Cold spraying method on the AA1350 aluminium alloy substrate. The coatings were deposited using two commercially available copper powders with spherical and dendritic morphology and granulation of -40+10 μm. The bond strength of coatings was determined with the pull off method, the hardness with the Vickers method at load of 2.94 N, while the Young’s modulus through measurement of nanoindentation. Microstructure of the coatings was analysed using the light and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Shape of the powder influences mechanical properties of the coating significantly. The coatings deposited with dendritic powder had low mechanical properties, hardness of the 81 HV0.3 order and adhesion of about 4 MPa. However changing powder morphology to spherical increased hardness of the coating to 180 HV0.3 and adhesion to 38.5 MPa.

Opis:
The bactericidal and bacteriostatic effects of cop-per have been known for a long time. However, the coatings apart from biological activity should fulfil a number of other requirements, such as tightness, scratch resistance or aesthetic appearance. Researchers have been working on creating durable coatings meeting these requirements for a long time. Scientific research indicates a high interest in active coatings. Nanoscale additives are used, with the aim to modify the material’s performance at the atomic level. Composite coatings allow us to provide the materials multifunctionality, and in addition, can enhance their mutual action. There are many methods for creating such materials. One of the techniques of applying composite coatings is the Cold Spray method, in which the coating is made of a powder. The main purpose of the modification is to obtain a bactericidal and bacteriostatic effect, but also a durable and wear--resistant coating. The paper proposes modifications of copper powder with amorphous submicron titanium dioxide in order to increase its biological activity. The modified powder can be used to create coatings by various methods including thermal methods. The work presents a material analysis of Cu and TiO2powders and results of bactericidal tests carried out on a Cu-TiO2 composite powder. The experiment in-cluded Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus. The studies have shown a positive effect of the addition of TiO2 on bactericidal properties against both Staphylococcus aureus (Gram-positive bacteria) and Escherichia coli (Gram-negative bacteria) when mixed with copper at 1:9 ratio.

This study aimed to determine the characteristic features of handstand posture control associated with a high level of ability among male gymnasts. Methods: 8 acrobatic gymnasts (4 more and 4 less experienced) participated in the study. They performed a 10-second handstand five times with each hand positioned on one AccuSway (AMTI) force platform and the other hand on the second. Body sway changes were recorded in time series: centre of pressure (COP) and components of the ground reaction force (GRF) (vertical, medial-lateral and anterior-posterior). The COP amplitude and average of GRF components, the index of frequency (by Fast Fourier Transform) for the right and left hand were calculated. Results: More experienced gymnasts performing a handstand concentrate mainly on minimizing anterior-posterior body sway with minimum medial-lateral body sway. Less experienced gymnasts’ pressure exerted on a surface by the hands is irregular in a medial-lateral direction. More experienced gymnasts control body position in the handstand and show less variation of body sway compared to less experienced gymnasts. More experienced gymnasts revealed lower frequency of body sway in the handstand compared to less experienced gymnasts. Conclusion: The stabilometric profile of more experienced gymnasts means the better posture control in handstand. The minimizing of body sway is compensated by exerting more force on a floor surface and the less experienced athletes cannot do that even after several years of training. The gymnasts of both groups, during standing on their hands, put more load on the right hand.
