The aim of this paper is to summarize selected studies about the sound in the landscape in the framework of the landscape ecology which gives an interdisciplinary approach. In this context the most essential researches were carried out in bioacoustics, ecoacoustics, acoustic ecology and soundscape ecology. The article starts with a brief description of how acoustic ecology and concept of soundscape had evolved and spread to various disciplines. The controversy over the term of soundscape is briefly presented: in Polish it has been translated as krajobraz dźwiękowy which means the acoustic landscape and it is hard to use it in the framework of the landscape ecology. It is suggested that krajobraz dźwiękowy should be understood as sound perceived by human (like in most of its definitions). The objective phenomena of the sound in the landscape is called the sound composition (kompozycja dźwiękowa) and is meant as the landscape feature. The soundscape ecology is described as a new discipline which gives useful acoustic indicators. Next, results of studies focusing on the sound in relation to the spatial structure of the landscape, (i.e. differentiations of bird songs in relation to patch connectivity and size or variations of soundscapes in relation to landscape characteristics) are discussed. Conclusions include suggestions regarding – future lines of acoustic researches. Some studies about acoustical methods to research the biodiversity are also described. The last part of the paper is about the soundscape chronostructure in relation to landscape evolution and its cyclic changes. General conclusions about annual and daily variability are described. Studies on ultrasounds and their possible importance in measuring the vegetation condition are described. Observations and experiments focusing on an influence of masking sounds on animal vocalisations give the knowledge about mechanisms of the soundscape change caused by anthropopressure or invasive species. This is potentially useful to monitoring dynamics in the soundscape.

The survey interviewed three hundred and nine people in five public places within Warsaw. The aim of the survey was to examine if people's sound preferences are related to a place's function and how these preferences diferentiate. A further aim of this research was to gather users' ideas for making city soundscapes more pleasant. The results showed that people generally prefer natural and human sounds, but do not like mechanical sounds; the importance of specific sounds are diferentiated in relation to the function and history of a place. The main way to make urban places sound better and more appropriate to their function is to eliminate or reduce mechanical sounds (especially trafic), but individual methods depend on local conditions. The second way to make places sound better is to increase natural sounds and to make soundscapes more appropriate to their function - an increase in human sounds (mainly music).

The Warsaw soundscape has been examined according to the principles of acoustic ecology. The soundscape is the acoustic environment tested primarily by qualitative research. Warsaw residents were asked in a survey about their sound impressions and requirements for the Warsaw soundscape. The aim of this research was to learn both the conditions of acoustic environment and the needs of space users in accordance with the space category. The present and expected sound structures of five different categories of space were examined (residential areas, streets, city centre, tourist areas and green areas). Information on both the specific Warsaw sounds and the ideas for new sounds (which could be introduced into the city) was collected.

The authors present three methods for proving Poisson's theorem. The first method is based on papers of L. Takács [J. Amer. Statist. Assoc. 62 (1967), 102–113; MR0217832] and J. Galambos [J. Appl. Probab. 11 (1974), 219–222; MR0358923], the second uses results of D. A. Freedman [Ann. Probab. 2 (1974), 256–269; MR0370694] and M. R. Leadbetter [Z. Wahrsch. Verw. Gebiete 28 (1973/74), 298–309; MR0362465], and the third method follows the considerations contained in another paper by Galambos [ibid. 32 (1975), no. 3, 197–207; MR0380941]. The paper contains known theorems but some of the proofs are new.

The article provides an introduction to the alternative local currency system, known as PULA, being developed in Gdansk. The alternative currency system is a multilateral agreement that uses a medium of exchange other than traditional national money, aiming to link unmet needs with unused resources. Alternative currencies support local development, the economy and strengthen mutual recognition and relational trust, with the main goal of better meeting social needs and creating links between economic activity and social bases. The article describes the partnership-building process in Gdansk, which included the identification of local stakeholders such as the public, private and non-governmental sectors. The process of building partnerships and collaborations can serve as a model for creating similar social innovation initiatives that require multi-stakeholder involvement from different.

This article aims to explore the extent to which the educational mobile application PULA supports and promotes pro-environmental behaviours, identify the most utilised functionalities by early adopters, and explore the least engaged functionalities. The study employs a quantitative approach based on data collected from the application. The analysis provides a comprehensive understanding of users' experiences and behaviours within the application, contributing valuable insights into its potential to foster pro-environmental attitudes and behaviours. The results suggested that the users, especially women, were generally interested in the learning activities. Pro-environmental transport-related activities were also frequently undertaken by the users. While women tended to split their time into various functionalities of the application, men focused mainly on the transport-related ones. This research contributes to the emerging field of using educational mobile applications for promoting pro-environmental behaviour. The study's focus on early adopters provides unique perspectives on the mechanisms behind behaviour change and offers implications for future interventions. The findings of this study can impact environmental conservation efforts. By encouraging pro-environmental behaviour through an accessible mobile application, a broader audience can be reached and motivated to adopt greener habits. The insights gained from this research can inform the design and development of future applications to foster sustainable practices, benefiting society and contributing to building a more sustainable future.

Cel badań. Celem podjętych badań było określenie poziomu wybranych składników kompetencji psychospołecznych (inteligencji emocjonalnej, asertywności, samooceny) studentów Akademii Wychowania Fizycznego we Wrocławiu przygotowujących się do pracy w charakterze nauczyciela, fizjoterapeuty oraz animatora turystyki i rekreacji ruchowej. Materiał i metody. W badaniach wzięło udział 612 studentów studiów pierwszego stopnia kierunków: wychowanie fizyczne, fizjoterapia oraz turystyka i rekreacja. Wykorzystano trzy narzędzia badawcze: Kwestionariusz Inteligencji Emocjonalnej (INTE), Skalę „Ja i Inni”, Skalę Samooceny (SES). Badania przeprowadzono w latach 2015–2017. Wyniki. Studenci osiągnęli przeciętne wskaźniki inteligencji emocjonalnej, asertywności i samooceny. Wykazano zróżnicowanie wyników ze względu na obrany kierunek studiów w grupie mężczyzn oraz stwierdzono różnice międzypłciowe w zakresie samooceny wśród studentów wychowania fizycznego i fizjoterapii. Wnioski. Przeciętny poziom badanych dyspozycji, jaki posiadają studenci, wskazuje na ich niewystarczające umiejętności psychospołeczne. Jest to poziom zbyt niski dla kandydatów do zawodów społecznych, dlatego w toku studiów konieczne są zajęcia nastawione na stymulację tych umiejętności. Trening asertywności wskazany jest przede wszystkim dla mężczyzn studiujących fizjoterapię oraz turystykę i rekreację, a rozwijanie umiejętności emocjonalnych potrzebne jest przyszłym nauczycielom wychowania fizycznego.
Background. The correct functioning in relationships with others is an indispensable skill, especially for individuals whose work requires constant contact with people. Having high psychosocial competencies is an important determinant of their effectiveness in professional situations. The aim of the study was to determine the level of selected components of psychosocial competencies (emotional intelligence, assertiveness, self-esteem) among students of the University School of Physical Education in Wrocław preparing to work as a teacher, physiotherapist, and animator of tourism and recreation. Material and methods. The total of 612 first degree students of physical education, physiotherapy, and tourism and recreation were included in the study. Three research tools were used: Questionnaire of Emotional Intelligence (INTE), the ‘Me and Others’ Scale, and the Self-Esteem Scale (SES). The study was conducted in years 2015–2017. Results. The students achieved average scores of emotional intelligence, assertiveness, and self-esteem. There was a diversity of the results of all scales in terms of the chosen field of study in the group of men; differences between the sexes with regard to self-esteem were also observed among students of physical education and physiotherapy. Conclusions. The students’ average level of the analysed dispositions points at their inadequate psychosocial skills, inappropriate for candidates for social professions. Therefore, it is necessary to focus on stimulating these skills in the course of studies. Assertiveness training is primarily indicated for men studying physiotherapy and tourism and recreation, and emotional skills development for future physical education teachers.

Opis:
Standard ocular tumor treatment includes brachytherapy, as well as proton therapy, particularly for large melanoma tumors. However, the effects of different radiation types on the metastatic spread is not clear. We aimed at comparing ruthenium (106Ru, emitting β electrons) and iodine (125I, γ-radiation) brachytherapy and proton beam therapy of melanoma implanted into the hamster eye on development of spontaneous lung metastases. Tumors of Bomirski Hamster Melanoma (BHM) implanted into the anterior chamber of the hamster eye grew aggressively and completely filled the anterior chamber within 8-10 days. Metastases, mainly in the lung, were found in 100% of untreated animals 30 days after enucleation. Tumors were irradiated at a dose of 3-10 Gy with a 106Ru plaque and at a dose of 6-14 Gy using a 125I plaque. The protons were accelerated using the AIC-144 isochronous cyclotron operating at 60 MeV. BHM tumors located in the anterior chamber of the eye were irradiated with 10 Gy, for the depth of 3.88 mm. All radiation types caused inhibition of tumor growth by about 10 days. An increase in the number of metastases was observed for 3 Gy of β-irradiation, whereas at 10 Gy an inhibition of metastasis was found. γ-radiation reduced the metastatic mass at all applied doses, and proton beam therapy at 10 Gy also inhibited the metastastic spread. These results are discussed in the context of recent clinical and molecular data on radiation effects on metastasis.
