    Opis:
    In this article, there were presented results of research on influence of reclamation process on the ecological quality of reclaim sand with furan resin used in nonferrous foundry. The quality of reclaimed sand is mainly define by two group of chemical substances from elution of reclaimed sand: Dissolves Organic Carbon (DOC) and Total Dissolves Solids (TDS). Reclaimed sand used in test was prepared in experimental thermal reclaimer and mechanical vibration reclaimer REGMAS installed in Faculty of Foundry Engineering at University of Science and Technology in Krakow. The reference point is molding sand shaking out and crumble in jaw crusher. Test of elution was made in acreditation laboratory in Center For Research and Environmental Control in Katowice up to the standard with Dissolves Organic Carbon (DOC) - PN-EN 1484:1999; Total Dissolves Solids (TDS) - PN-EN 15216:2010. The standard for elution test is PN-EN 12457- 4:2006. Except that we were made loss of ignition test, to check how many resin was rest on sand grains.

    Masy z żywicami furanowymi należą do najszerzej stosowanych spośród mas ze spoiwami organicznymi, jeżeli chodzi o wykonywanie odlewów ze stopów żelaza. Wynika to z szeregu zalet tych mas. Jednak masy z żywicami furanowymi wykazują również pewne niedoskonałości, które są przyczyną wad w odlewach. Należą do nich obecność azotu, siarki czy fosforu w spoiwie, które to pierwiastki z masy przechodzą do metalu. Dodatkowo producenci żywic furanowych muszą ograniczać zawartość wolnego alkoholu furfurylowego do wartości <25% wag., ze względu na jego toksyczne właściwości. Szczególną uwagę należy zwracać na obecność w masie formierskiej siarki, gdy wykonuje się odlewy z żeliwa z grafitem sferoidalnym lub wermikularnym. Bardzo często występuje wtedy zjawisko degradacji tych form grafitu do grafitu płatkowego. W artykule przeprowadzono obliczenia ilości siarki, jakie są wprowadzane do masy formierskiej wraz ze spoiwem, w zależności od składu kwaśnego katalizatora (głównymi jego składnikami są najczęściej różne organiczne kwasy sulfonowe), co powinno pomóc przy wyborze katalizatora dla danej żywicy furanowej.
    Among various sands with organic binders, moulding sands with furan resins belong to the group most widely applied in the manufacture of castings from ferrous alloys. This is due to a number of undisputable advantages offered by these sands, although they are not free from certain drawbacks, which ultimately can result in casting defects. The main disadvantage of furan resin sands is the fact that the binder contains nitrogen, sulphur and phosphorus, and all these elements are transferred in the course of casting from sand to metal. Additionally, producers of furan resins are forced to reduce the free furfuryl alcohol content to <25 wt. %, due to its toxic properties. Special attention deserves the presence of sulphur in moulding sand when castings are made from the cast iron with nodular or vermicular graphite. Then, as very often occurs, the effect of degradation of these two graphite forms take the shape of flake graphite. The study shows how to calculate the amount of sulphur introduced into the moulding sand together with binder, related to the acid catalyst composition (most often, its main components are various organic sulphonic acids). It is expected that the results will be useful in the selection of an optimum catalyst for a given type of furan resin.

    Coraz ostrzejsze przepisy w zakresie ochrony środowiska wymuszają na producentach materiałów dla przemysłu odlewniczego opracowywanie nowych produktów, bardziej przyjaznych dla środowiska. Jednym z takich produktów są żywice furfurylowe, które obecnie mają największy udział w grupie mas no-bake. Wprowadzone w ostatnich latach w UE przepisy dotyczące ograniczenia zawartości wolnego alkoholu furfurylowego (< 25%) w żywicach oraz naciski w kierunku redukcji emisji SO2, formaldehydu, fenolu, benzenu i toluenu, jak również związków z grupy WWA, szczególnie na stanowiskach pracy spowodowały pojawienie się na rynku nowej generacji żywic furfurylowch oraz katalizatorów (o zmniejszonej zawartości siarki lub bezsiarkowych). W artykule dokonano analizy wpływu tych nowych produktów stosowanych w technologii mas z żywicami furfurylowymi na środowisko i warunki pracy.
    More and more strict regulations, concerning the environment protection, force the producers of materials for foundry industry to develop new products, more friendly for the environment. One of such products are furfuryl resins, which currently have the largest share within the group of no-bake moulding sands. Regulations introduced in the last years in the European Union concerning limitations of a free furfuryl alcohol content (< 25%) in resins as well as pressures to reduce SO2, formaldehyde, phenol, benzene, toluene and compounds from the PAHs group emissions, especially at work stands, caused an appearance of the new generation of furfuryl resins and catalysts (of a decreased sulphur content or even sulphur-free). The analysis of the influence of these new products, applied in the moulding sands with furfuryl resins technology, on the environment and work conditions was performed in the hereby paper.

    W artykule omówiono procesy termiczne, jakim jest poddawana masa formierska w kontakcie z ciekłym stopem odlewniczym. W zależności od charakteru atmosfery w formie może to być proces spalania lub pirolizy (przy braku tlenu). Procesy te, szczególnie gdy w skład masy wchodzą związki zawierające węgiel (np. masy z żywicami lub z bentonitem i nośnikiem węgla błyszczącego (NWB)), generując odpowiednią atmosferę wewnątrz formy, mają duży wpływ na występowanie takich wad w odlewach, jak: żyłki, przypalenia czy penetracja ciekłego metalu. Aby uniknąć tych wad, należy wytworzyć we wnęce formy atmosferę redukującą. W artykule dokonano obszernego przeglądu prac, w tym również prac własnych autorów, w zakresie procesów pirolizy zachodzących w masach z dodatkiem substancji zawierających węgiel. Przedstawiono schematy mechanizmów rozpadu termicznego żywic oraz NWB podawane przez różnych autorów. Procesy pirolizy generują wiele szkodliwych związków z grupy tzw. Niebezpiecznych Zanieczyszczeń Powietrza (HAPs – Hazardous Air Pollutants), w tym z grupy BTEX (benzen, toluen, etylobenzen i ksyleny) oraz z grupy WWA (wielopierścieniowe węglowodory aromatyczne), co zagraża zdrowiu pracowników odlewni.
    The article discusses the thermal processes undergone by the sand mould in contact with the liquid casting alloy. Depending on the character of the atmosphere in the mould, this can be the process of combustion or pyrolysis (when there is no oxygen). These processes, especially when the sand mould contains compounds with carbon, (e.g. sand moulds with resins or bentonite and lustrous carbon formers (LCF)), generating the proper atmosphere inside the mould, have a significant effect on the presence of such casting defects as: veinings, burn-ons and liquid metal penetration. In order to avoid these defects, a reducing atmosphere should be formed inside the mould cavity. The article provides a comprehensive review of the studies, including the authors’ own works, in the scope of the pyrolysis process taking place in sand moulds with the addition of a carbon-containing substance. Diagrams of the mechanisms of the thermal decomposition of resins and lustrous carbon formers (LCF) given by various authors are presented. The pyrolysis processes generate many hazardous compounds from the group of the so-called Hazardous Air Pollutants (HAPs), including those from the BTEX group (benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and xylenes) as well as from the PAH group (polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons), which create risks for the health of the foundry workers.

    Environmentally friendly and economically profitable technologies, enabling utilisation of wastes from metallurgical processes and regeneration of Fe and Zn contained in them, are looked for. This allows also saving of natural resources such as ores. Several techniques have been developed and introduced for recycling sludge and dust that contain iron and zinc. Currently, there are three major ways to treat zinc -bearing dust: rotary hearth furnaces method (the FASTMET process), rotary kiln method (the Waelza process), shaft furnace method (the OXYCUP method). This technology can be used to fully recycle metallurgical wastes such as slag crusts or metal-bearing fractions of desulfurization slags without the need for additional preparation of these materials, dust, sludge and scale generated in different stages of iron and steelmaking. The OXYCUP process described in paper combines the function of melting in traditional cupola furnaces (CF) with function of reduction in blast furnaces (BF).

    The results concerning emission of gases from two commercial graphite protective coatings for moulds and cores (water and alcoholic) are given in the hereby paper. Investigations were performed in two systems. One of the systems was corresponding to conditions occurring inside the mould cavity immediately after its pouring with liquid metal (Method 1), while the second was simulating conditions deep inside the mould at a certain distance from the casting (Method 2). Investigations were carried out in the CO2 atmosphere and in the air. The water protective coating generated 1.5 to 3 times larger volume of gases than the alcoholic coating (in dependence on the measuring method and atmosphere). The smallest differences occurred in the air atmosphere, while the largest in the CO2 atmosphere.

    The ceaseless progress of nanotechnology, observed in the last years, causes that nanomaterials are more and more often applied in several fields of industry, technique and medicine. E.g. silver nanoparticles are used in biomedicine for disinfection and polymer nanoparticles allow insulin transportation in pharmacology. New generation materials containing nanoparticles are also used in the chemical industry (their participation in the commercial market equals app. 53 %). Nanomaterials are used in electronics, among others for semiconductors production (e.g. for producing nanoink Ag, which conducts electric current). Nanomaterials, due to their special properties, are also used in the foundry industry in metallurgy (e.g. metal alloys with nanocrystalline precipitates), as well as in investment casting and in moulding and core sand technologies. Nanoparticles and containing them composites are applied in several technologies including foundry practice, automotive industry, medicine, dentistry etc. it is expected that their role and market share will be successively growing.

    The nanocomposites based on water glass matrix were attempted in the study. Nanoparticles of ZnO, Al2O3 or MgO in organic solutions were applied into water glass matrix in the amounts of: 1.5; 3; 4 or 5 mas. %. Wettability of the quartz sad by the nanocomposites based on water glass matrix was determined by testing changes of the wetting angle θ in time τ for the system: quartz – binder in non-stationary state, by means of the device for measuring wetting angles. Wettability measurements were carried out under isothermal conditions at an ambient temperature (20 – 25 oC). The modification improves wettability of quartz matrix by water glass, which is effective in improving strength properties of hardened moulding sands. Out of the considered modifiers in colloidal solution of propyl alcohol water glass modified by MgO nanoparticles indicated the smallest values of the equilibrium wetting angle θr. This value was equal app. 11 degrees and was smaller no less than 40 degrees than θr value determined for not modified water glass. Viscosity η of nanocomposites based on water glass matrix was determined from the flow curve, it means from the empirically determined dependence of the shearing stress τ on shear rate γ: τ = f (γ) (1), by means of the rotational rheometer. Measurements were carried out at a constant temperature of 20 oC. The modification influences the binder viscosity. This influence is conditioned by: amount of the introduced modifier as well as dimensions and kinds of nanoparticles and organic solvents. The viscosity increase of the modified binder does not negatively influence its functional properties.

    Celem badań była identyfikacja głównych produktów pirolizy utwardzonego spoiwa stosowanego w technologii ALPHASET w zależności od temperatury rozkładu. Rozkład termiczny próbek prowadzono przy użyciu pirolizera w temperaturze: 700, 900 i 1100 °C w atmosferze helu o czystości 99,9999. Identyfikację produktów pirolizy prowadzono z wykorzystaniem techniki GC/MS. Okazało się, że temperatura 900 °C jest tą, w której powstaje najwięcej produktów pirolizy. W temperaturze 700 i 900 °C znaczny udział wśród produktów pirolizy ma dwutlenek węgla, który powstaje w wyniku rozkładu węglanu propylenu, będącego prawdopodobnie składnikiem mieszaniny estrów.
    The aim of the investigations was the identification of the main products of the pyrolysis of the hardened binder - applied in the ALPHASET technology - in dependence on the decomposition temperature. The thermal decomposition of samples was performed by means of the pyrolyzer at temperatures: 700, 900 and 1100°C in the atmosphere of helium (He) of the purity: 99.9999. This identification was performed by means of the GC/MS technique. It occurred that the temperature of 900°C is the one at which the highest amount of the pyrolysis products is formed. At temperatures of 700 and 900°C among the pyrolysis products there is a significant fraction of carbon dioxide, which is formed as the result of the decomposition of propylene carbonate, which is probably the component of the esters mixture.

    Zinc ferrite ZnFe2O4 both in the micro and nano scale is widely used in various fields. The article discusses the structure of this compound and its properties in the nanoscale, which is clearly different from those which the ferrite shows in the microscale. The properties of dust generated electric arc furnace, which can contain up to 40% zinc, substantially in the form of ZnFe2O4 are disscused here. Specific properties (electric, magnetic, thermal) of zinc ferrite nanoparticles determine the very wide possibilities of their use, inter alia as catalysts, absorbents, gas sensors, and a tool to combat cancer.

    Background. Age Related Macular Degeneration (AMD) affecting the organ of vision, impairs central vision. The study objective was (1) to define the prevalence of sleep disorders and depressive symptoms in patients with AMD, (2) to assess the relationship of depressive symptoms and insomnia with chosen demographic data, (3) to assess a potential correlation of the exacerbating vision quality with depressive symptoms and sleep disorders. Material and methods. The study involved 105 patients, women and men aged 45-88. Patients were asked to complete an original questionnaire subjected to validation, the Beck Depression Inventory and the Athens’s Insomnia Scale. Results. The results were analysed statistically, showing that 71% of the respondents had insomnia and 70% suffered from depression. The patients’ age, time from the diagnosis, marital and occupational status were not found to be related to depression or sleep disorders. Type of education, financial status and family support were significantly correlated with the prevalence of depression and sleep disorders. No correlation was observed between the exacerbation of vision disorders and enhanced depressive symptoms and insomnia. However, such correlation was noted with subjective stress reactions. Conclusions. Since patients with AMD are at a greater risk of sleep disorders and depression they should remain under professional care of a multidisciplinary team, including an ophthalmologist, a family doctor, a psychiatrist and a psychologist.
    Wprowadzenie. Zwyrodnienie plamki żółtej związane z wiekiem (AMD, Age Related Macular Degeneration) jest schorzeniem narządu wzroku, które istotnie upośledza widzenie centralne. Celem badania było: (1) określenie częstości występowania zaburzeń snu oraz objawów depresyjnych u pacjentów z AMD, (2) zbadanie zależności pomiędzy objawami depresyjnymi i bezsennością a wybranymi danymi demograficznymi, (3) oszacowanie korelacji pomiędzy pogarszaniem się jakości widzenia a objawami depresyjnymi i zaburzeniami snu. Materiał i metody. W badaniu wzięło udział 105 pacjentów, kobiet i mężczyzn w wieku od 45 do 88 lat. Pacjenci poproszeni zostali o wypełnienie autorskiej zwalidowanej ankiety , skali depresji Becka oraz Ateńskiej Skali Bezsenności. Wyniki. Stwierdzono, że na bezsenność cierpi 71% respondentów, natomiast objawy depresji występują u 70% badanych. Wiek badanych, czas od postawienia diagnozy, stan cywilny oraz status zawodowy nie były związane z zaburzeniami depresyjnymi oraz snu. Rodzaj wykształcania, sytuacja materialna oraz wsparcie ze strony najbliższych (rodziny) były istotnie skorelowane z częstością występowania zaburzeń depresyjnych oraz snu. Nie stwierdzono korelacji pomiędzy narastaniem zaburzeń jakości widzenia a nasileniem objawów depresyjnych i bezsennością, natomiast taką zależność zaobserwowano w odniesieniu do subiektywnej reakcji stresowej. Wnioski. Chorzy na AMD są grupą pacjentów podwyższonego ryzyka wystąpienia zaburzeń snu oraz rozwoju depresji i w związku z tym powinni zostać objęci opieką wielodyscyplinarnego zespołu, w którym oprócz lekarza okulisty powinien znaleźć się lekarz rodzinny, psychiatra oraz psycholog.

    In Poland and in Ukraine, railway areas are managed by state enterprises. Both countries are facing the problem of depreciation of railway property, especially along railway lines that are no longer used. The purpose of this article is to present the situation of railway stations in small and medium-sized towns in Poland and in Ukraine with a particular focus on the functional changes. These stations constitute assets which, due to the development of railways and road transport, are losing their usefulness in some locations. In both countries there are objects of this kind, in a state of disrepair and alling into ruin. Only finding a new use for these buildings can save tchem from ultimate damage. In Ukraine, converting small and medium-sized station buildings into housing units is the specificity of the transformations. In Poland, housing developments appear along railway lines no longer in use (provisions of law put restrictions on this type of transformations).
    W Polsce i na Ukrainie terenami kolejowymi zarządzają przedsiębiorstwa państwowe. Obydwa kraje borykają się z problemem dekapitalizacji majątku kolejowego, szczególnie przy nieczynnych liniach. Celem artykułu jest przedstawienie sytuacji dworców kolejowych w małych i średniej wielkości miastach w Polsce i na Ukrainie ze szczególnym zwróceniem uwagi na zmiany w ich zagospodarowaniu i związanymi z tym zmianami funkcjonalnymi. Dworce te stanowią majątek, który ze względu na rozwój kolejnictwa i transportu drogowego tracą w niektórych miejscowościach swoje znaczenie i użyteczność. W obydwu krajach znajdują się obiekty nieodpowiednio zagospodarowane, ulegające niszczeniu i popadające w ruinę. Jedynie zmiana ich przeznaczenia może uchronić budynki przed ostatecznym zniszczeniem. Specyfiką przekształceń na Ukrainie jest adaptowanie małych i średniej wielkości budynków dworcowych na cele mieszkaniowe. W Polsce funkcje mieszkaniowe pojawiają się przy nieczynnych liniach kolejowych (przepisy prawne ograniczają tego typu przekształcenia).

    Opis:
    The results of investigations of three commercial binders applied in the Alphaset technology marked as: Sample E , Sample T and Sample S are presented in the hereby paper. These samples were subjected to the pyrolysis process at a temperature of 900°C (inert atmosphere, He 99.9999). The gas chromatograph coupled with the mass spectrometer and pyrolizer (Py-GC/MS) were used in the study. The identification of gases emitted during the thermal decomposition was performed on the basis of the mass spectral library. The obtained results indicate a certain diversification of emitted gases. Among the pyrolysis products the following harmful substances were identified: furfuryl alcohol, formaldehyde, phenol and also substances from the BTEX (benzene, toluene and ethylobezneze and xylenes) PAHs (Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons) and VOC groups (Volatile Organic Compounds). Therefore, from the environment protection point of view performing systematic investigations concerning the harmfulness of binders applied in the moulding and core sands technology, is essential.

    W artykule zamieszczono wyniki pirolizy żywicy, utwardzacza oraz utwardzonej żywicy stosowanych w technologii ALPHASET. Jest to alkaliczna żywica fenolowa typu rezolowego utwardzana mieszaniną estrów. Pirolizę prowadzono w temperaturze 900°C w atmosferze helu. Do identyfikacji produktów pirolizy zastosowano technikę chromatografii gazowej sprzężonej ze spektrometrią mas (Py-GC/MS). Produktami pirolizy żywicy nieutwardzonej były głównie pochodne metylowe fenolu i benzenu, natomiast wśród produktów pirolizy utwardzonej żywicy, poza tymi związkami, występowały też substancje pochodzące z utwardzacza (estry). Jako produkt pirolizy utwardzacza zidentyfikowano aceton, który pochodził z rozkładu węglanu propylenu.
    The article presents the results of the pyrolysis of resin, the fast hardener as well as cured resin used in the ALPHASET technology. It is an alkaline phenolic resin of the resol type cured with an ester mixture. The pyrolysis was performed at 900°C in an atmosphere of helium. For the identification of the pyrolysis products, the technique of gas chromatography combined with mass spectrometry (Py-GC/MS) was applied. The products of the uncured resin pyrolysis were mainly methyl derivatives of phenol and benzene, whereas the products of the cured resin pyrolysis, beside these compounds, also included substances derived from the hardener (esters). Acetone was identified as the product of the pyrolysis hardener, which originated from the decomposition of propylene carbonate.

    Wprowadzenie. Rozwój motoryczny dzieci jest kluczowym wyznacznikiem ich rozwoju fizycznego. Z roku na rok obserwuje się spadek umiejętności motorycznych u dzieci. Najważniejszymi kryteriami, które wyznaczają poziom tego rozwoju, są: szybkość, skoczność, siła mięśniowa oraz wytrzymałość. Kryteria te bada się, poddając dzieci testom sprawnościowym takim jak: bieg sprinterski, skok w dal, rzut piłką palantową, rzut piłką lekarską oraz bieg długodystansowy. Wymienione testy to doskonałe narzędzie do wykorzystania nie tylko przez badaczy, ale także przez nauczycieli, lekarzy oraz rodziców. Cel pracy. Celem pracy było przedstawienie kryteriów rozwoju motorycznego uczniów szkół podstawowych. Skrócony opis tanu wiedzy. Najważniejszym przejawem sprawności u dzieci będących uczniami szkoły podstawowej jest stan ich rozwoju motorycznego. Współcześnie rozwój motoryczny dzieci jest oceniany dość nisko, co budzi niepokój wśród znawców tematu. Motoryka człowieka dzieli się na motorykę dużą, wyznaczającą sprawność ruchów całego ciała oraz na motorykę małą, która pozwala na wykonywanie ruchów precyzyjnych. Stan motoryki dużej u dzieci jest mierzony za pomocą kryteriów takich jak szybkość, skoczność, koordynacja, siła mięśniowa oraz wytrzymałość. Kryteria te bada się za pomocą testów sprawnościowych. Szybkość bada się za pomocą biegu sprinterskiego, skoczność testuje skok w dal, koordynację mierzy się efektami rzucenia piłki palantowej, siłę mięśniową wyznaczają efekty rzutu piłką lekarską, natomiast wytrzymałość bada się przy użyciu biegu długodystansowego na 500 metrów. Poddawanie dzieci powyższym testom pozwala na zdiagnozowanie i kompensację ich deficytów bądź też rozwijanie w nich tych cech, dzięki którym mają one szansę na sukcesy sportowe. Podsumowanie. Prawidłowe przeprowadzenie testów sprawnościowych badających stopień rozwoju motorycznego u dzieci ze szkół podstawowych pozwala na ocenę nie tylko aktualnych możliwości dzieci, ale także na ocenę postępu lub regresu, jaki dokonał się na przełomie lat, jeśli chodzi o zdolności motoryczne polskich dzieci.
    Introduction. Motor development of children is a major indicator of their physical development. Children’s motor skills show a constant decrease. The most important criteria used to assess the level of motor development include speed, jumping skills, muscle strength and endurance. These criteria are investigated by physical fitness tests, such as sprinting, long jumping, palant ball throwing, medicine ball throwing and long-distance running. These tests are an excellent tool to be used not only by researchers but also by teachers, doctors and parents. Study objective. The aim of the study was to present the criteria of motor development of primary school children. Brief description of the state of the art. The state of motor development of primary school children is the major manifestation of their physical fitness. Currently, the motor development of children is relatively low, which arouses concern among experts in this field. Human motor coordination can be divided into gross motor skills which involve the whole body movement, and fine motor skills allowing precise movements. The condition of gross motor coordination in children is measured by means of such criteria as speed, jumping skills, muscle strength and endurance, which are assessed by physical fitness tests. Speed is evaluated by sprinting, jumping skills by the long jump, coordination by palant ball throwing, muscle strength by medicine ball throwing and endurance by long-distance running (500m). The above tests allow diagnosis and compensation of deficiencies in children, or development of the features that may facilitate sports achievements. Conclusion. Proper performance of the physical fitness tests that investigate motor development of primary school children allows not only for the assessment of their current potential, but also progression or regression in the motor capacities of Polish children over the years.
