Opis:
Optimizing power consumption in grinding, the most consumed stage in the mining industry, plays an influential role in reducing operating costs. Obtaining an efficient model to predict tumbling mills' power consumption accurately took the attention of researchers, mineral processing engineers, and tumbling mill manufacturers. This article comprehensively reviews the published mill power models and the most critical studies on this topic since 1919. Furthermore, the employed approaches for modelling the tumbling mills' power draw, the incorporated parameters into the developed models, the models' performances in predicting the industrial mills' power draw, and the potential gaps in the available literature are discussed. Moreover, based on the shortages identified in this review, some recommendations have been made to enhance the modelling mill power draw.

Opis:
In the development of tumbling mills' power models, the voidage of grinding media is assumed to be static and equal to 40%. While the grinding media’s voidage is dynamic; and hence is varied by changing the operating parameters. In this paper, to improve the Hogg and Fuerstenau model's accuracy in predicting the ball mills' power draw, the grinding media's static and dynamic voidage was studied for Bond's proposed ball size distributions (BSD) for the ball mills' first filling. To this end, by scaling down balls to one-tenth of actual size, developing a novel method to measure the dynamic voidage, and employing the three-level factorial method, a separate empirical model was developed for determining the dynamic voidage of each Bond's BSD with respect to mill's fractional filling and rotating speed. Moreover, using the multiple regression method, a general empirical model was derived to determine the dynamic voidage of each supposed BSD based on calculating the mean absolute deviation of balls diameter (MAD). Results indicated that grinding media's dynamic voidage increases with an increase in rotating speed and a decrease in fractional filling and balls diameter's MAD. The maximum and minimum static and dynamic voidage occurred for the seventh and first Bond's BSDs. By employing an industrial database and analyzing the mean absolute percentage error (MAPE) of predicted ball mills' power draw, it was found that the Hogg and Fuerstenau model's accuracy enhances by calculating the load's bulk density based on the grinding media's dynamic voidage.

Opis:
Ion flotation is one of the most promising and unique methods for reducing or removing toxic heavy metal ions, organic pollutants, or inorganic anions and cations from mining and metallurgical wastewater. It is a cost-effective and convenient method. In ion flotation, surface-active ions are removed from aqueous solutions by adding surfactants. Therefore, the main purpose of this review article was to summarize the application of various surfactants (nanoparticle surfactants, chemical synthetic surfactants, and biosurfactants) used in ion flotation. Then, the advantages, disadvantages, and prospects of surfactants were comprehensively discussed. Recent progress regarding nanoparticle surfactants in ion flotation and the mechanism of colligends binding with nanoparticles were evaluated.

Opis:
The present research aims at studying the extractability of Nd(III) by Cyanex® 572 as a new extractant form from nitrate solutions. The effects of contact time, the concentration of nitrate ion, hydrogen ion, and extractant, and type of diluent were discussed, suggesting that the extraction of neodymium with Cyanex 572 was found to be a cation-exchange mechanism releasing three $H^+$ ion during the extraction. Cation- exchange mechanism of Nd(III) with Cyanex 572 was studied using slope analysis. Hydrogen ion concentration strongly influences the extraction behavior of Nd(III) in the solvent extraction. Results showed that three moles of Cyanex 572 are incorporated in the extraction process of one-mole neodymium(III) from the aqueous solutions. The concentration of nitrate ion in the aqueous solution has positive effect on the extraction efficiency of neodymium due to the salting out effect. The type of diluent influences the extraction efficiency of Nd(III). Results indicated that non-polar diluents were suitable solvents for the extraction of neodymium(III).

Opis:
In this study, the feasibility of lead dissolution from lead concentrate using fluoroboric acid by hydrometallurgical method was investigated in order to aviod the disadvantages of the pyrometallurgical processes. The effects of important operating parameters such as leaching time, liquid/solid ratio, stirring speed, temperature and fluoroboric acid concentration on the lead recovery were investigated using response surface methodology (RSM) based on the central composite design (CCD) model. The results show that the optimum conditions for the high lead recovery were: leaching time= 30 min, liquid/solid ratio= 10, stirring rate= 500 rpm, temperature= 80oC and fluoroboric acid concentration= 3.35 mol/L. More than 94% of lead was recovered in the optimum conditions. The results indicated that the liquid/solid ratio, fluoroboric acid concentration, temperature and leaching time were the most effective parameters on the process efficiency, respectively. Dissolution kinetics studies of lead in the fluoroboric acid were also evaluated. The chemical reaction was determined as the controlling mechanism of reaction at the shrinking core model. The activation energy was determined using Arrhenius model as 5.99 kJ/mol.

Opis:
The present study deals with nickel ions removal from dilute aqueous solution by ion flotation with emphasizing the process efficiency. The effect of collector structure on ion flotation efficiency and water recovery was evaluated using anionic collectors of sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) and functionalized graphene oxide by 2,6-diaminopyridine (AFGO). The results showed that process efficiency enhanced with the increase in pH and reached to complete removal at pH of 9 and 9.7 for SDS and AFGO, respectively. The AFGO showed the multifunctional bindings for complex formations with nickel ions. A coordinate bond may be formed between nickel ions and AFGO at the pH of 9 which increased nickel ion removal. The water recovery as a critical parameter that contributes to removal efficiency was significantly affected by the collector structure. The AFGO doesn’t have a frothing property and so decreases the water recovery during the process. The AFGO had significantly lower water recovery than SDS (almost threefold).

Opis:
The present work aims at investigating the effect of microwave local positions (i.e. before crushing (BC), after crushing (AC) and after milling (AM)) on microwave-assisted flotation of chalcopyrite and pyrite in a porphyry copper complex deposit. Individual given samples for each state were pre-treated with a variable power microwave at a power level of 90 to 900W for 15, 30, and 60s. Furthermore, froth floatation experiments were carried out using a laboratory mechanical Denver flotation cell on both microwave-treated and untreated samples. Particle surface properties were characterized by a scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and an energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX) analysis. The results showed that the chalcopyrite and pyrite floatabilities increased monotonically by rising the exposure time and power level for the uncrushed preconditioned samples (BC) due to the enhancement of mineral liberation degrees together with the formation of sulphide species and polysulphides on the mineral surfaces. However, flotation results of treated samples for the crushed one (AC) revealed an optimum range. Formation of intensive oxide layers on the mineral surfaces of milled samples (AM) led to a substantial reduction in their recoveries by increasing the microwave’s power level and the sample’s exposure time. The results obtained from mineral’s floatabilities in recleaner stage showed that the microwave-assisted sample at 900W for 30s at BC state favourably provided 5% higher S.E.’s than that of the untreated sample. Finally, it was concluded that the microwave pretreatment of samples induced the best floatability responses if it located before the crusher.
