Homelessness is not a single person’s personal issue nor does it affect people in a same way. Every nations are facing the same crisis of homelessness and poverty. The situation led by several circumstances. This research explores to identify the causes and challenges faced by the homeless people. The society recognizes them as minor ability folk and refuse them from care and support. The objective of this research is to find out the challenges and social issues of the people who don’t have a permanent shelter to live. In accordance with the findings, homeless people are widely having personal troubles and social abandon. The whole community should take part to support the people who have been isolated from the society. Proper progress can be made through government to care the needy community. According to one of the sayings that a single person cannot change someone’s destiny but, a group of people can.

The study focus on the analysis of the developing deviant culture of Tattooing and Piercing. Most of the people in the modern world involve in tattooing and piercing as considering it as a fashion. But in Asian countries social historical context of being tattooed is different. Especially in Tamil tradition tattooing and piercing has its limitation bound to rituals. Identifying the social perspective of this behavior is essential for the future generation. Qualitative and quantitative methods have been used to analyzed the present situation of the social acceptance and perception of tattoos and piercing. Data collected through primary and secondary data collection methods. Questionnaire survey done among hundred elderly people from the study area. Structured and unstructured interviews done with both tattooed and non-tattooed persons and respondents. According to the social recognition of the phenomenon, the society restrict the tattoo acceptance as fashion. The piercing and tattooing considered to be a undesirable activity of culture. Though earlier the piercing culture was accepted for the Hindu rituals, they were only limited with ears and nose piercing. Tamils consider the fashionable youth behavior of tattooing and piercing as social deviant activity when it has gone beyond the border of rituals and norms. The study provide insight into topic for further research to social perspective affecting tattoo acceptance and the role of fashion. This study limited to a small part of an urban area and a group of Tamil people. Thus, the results cannot be generalized to a vast area.

Alcohol consumption and related abuse are causes of mortality and morbidity worldwide (WHO). Consumption of alcohol in the upcountry region usually increased in amount rather than in any other part of Sri Lanka. It is essential to know the mode of alcohol consumption among various types of consumers. That helps to conduct a well-planned program for the prevention and control of this catastrophic social pathology. The main scope of this study is to identify the mode of alcohol consumption and related health issues, at the same time to expose the associating factors that lead to alcohol consumption. Selected 50 adult males have been interviewed from the study area using a semi-structured questionnaire. The study participants were selected through the purposive sampling method. Gathered data have been analyzed using Excel and discussed. According to the research outcomes, we have found that most of the participants agreed that they are consuming locally made alcohol and beer. 70% of the consumers have different health issues, 58% have family problems and financial struggles due to alcohol consumption. About 40% alcohol dependent had clinical signs of chronic illness. 70% of the consumers drank alcohol outside and during their work time. Alcohol consumers stated their associating factors of consumption as the climate, society, family problems, poverty, and physical soreness. According to the questionnaire survey, 74% of the participants were identified for daily consumption of alcohol. The most considered matter is their starting age of alcohol consumption is so young, and this study emphasizes the need for public education regarding the effects and illness of alcohol consumption at a young age. Proper awareness and guidance could help the youngsters to overcome the addiction. Public places and workplaces are the main areas to conduct awareness and intervention programs.
