For the manufacturing of load-bearing carbon fibre reinforced plastics (CFRP) made from staple carbon fibres (CF) , statements of the CF fibre length in the composite are essential. However, no suitable fibre length measuring method is currently available for long staple CF over 60 mm. The aim of this study is the development of an effective method for characterization of the fibre length distribution of long staple CF. For this method, a fibre beard specimen is extracted from a sliver manufactured from 80 mm staple CF, which is then scanned. Greyscale values densities (GD) of the individual length classes are determined from the scanned images, which correspond to the number of fibres per length class. From the proportion of all length classes, a span length diagram and staple fibre length diagram can be compiled. The results show the good potential of the method developed for the fibre length measurement of long staple CF.
Dla wytwarzania kompozytów ze wzmocnieniem włókien węglowych bardzo ważna jest znajomość rozkładu długości tych włókien. Niestety, jak dotychczas nie istniały odpowiednie metody pomiarowe pozwalające charakteryzować włókna odcinkowe o długościach powyżej 60 mm. Celem pracy była analiza istniejących metod pomiarowych oraz opracowanie metody, która umożliwiłaby satysfakcjonujące rozwiązanie tego zagadnienia. Zostały przedstawione zasady działania tej metody oraz uzyskana dokładność pomiarów.

Objectives: The urinary excretion of 8-oxo-7,8-dihydro-2'-deoxyguanosine (8-oxodG) was used as a biomarker of oxidative DNA damage. The urinary 8-oxodG levels in petrol filling station attendants (exposed) at various petrol bunks were estimated as well as in the unexposed (cashier) population. Materials and Methods: A total of 100 workers (79 petrol fillers and 21 cashiers) aged from 20 to 41 years participated in the study. An informed consent was taken from each participant. Information on personal habits and health was obtained through a questionnaire. After shifts, urine samples were collected analyzed for 8-oxodG using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Results: Fifty-three percent of workers were in the 21-30 years age group. The maximum level of 8-oxodG was observed in the age group ≥ 41 years and the minimum in the age group of 31-40 years. The maximum level of 8-oxodG was observed among those workers who had ≥ 21 years of experience. The concentrations of 8-oxodG were significantly higher in petrol fillers than those in cashiers (p < 0.05). Conclusions: Despite the conflicting results obtained in our study it was shown that 8-oxodG is related to chemical exposure. Further research is needed embracing a bigger number of participants to highlight the correlations between the exposure and the effects.

Opis:
The present investigation reflects the findings of exotic floristic composition at Peddagattu, Nalgonda district, Telangana State, India. A total of 125 exotic species of taxa belonging to 101 genera and 44 families were recorded in the study. Leguminosae is the most dominant family representing with 21 species, followed by Compositae (14 species), Apocynaceae, Convolvulaceae and Poaceae (7 species each). As per the nativity of exotic species representation in the study area are mostly from belongs to tropical America followed by tropical Africa and South America at Peddagattu.

Opis:
Pongamia pinnata, a tree bearing oil seeds, has been one of the prime focus among nonedible oil sources for biodiesel production in most parts of India. The oil cake obtained after the extraction of oil serves as an adequate source of cellulose, hemicellulose, proteins, lipids, and starch. The scarce literature data available suggest very low conversion rate of complex sugars to fermentable sugars and further to bioethanol. In the present work, a sulfuric acid hydrolysate obtained from Pongamia oil cake (POC) under microwave irradiation was anaerobically fermented using Bacillus cereus ATCC 14579. Under anaerobic and acidic conditions, the process parameters affecting the bioethanol production efficiency (BPE) were screened and optimized using statistical experimental designs. Of the seven parameters screened (glucose concentration, yeast extract as nitrogen source, agitation speed, pH, inoculum size, fermentation time, and temperature), only 3 were found to be significant and to increase BPE. The significant parameters were optimized using the Box-Behnken experimental design to obtain an optimal condition of 9 g/l reducing sugars, pH 4.6 maintained with acetate buffer, and fermentation period of 51 h that yielded 92% BPE with 4.2 g/l ethanol. Moreover, it was observed that the use of a buffer system to maintain broth pH, especially acetate buffer, significantly improved BPE. Low concentration of fermentation inhibitors is the key factor for improved BPE. The research outcome suggests that the production of dual fuel from Pongamia pinnata, viz. biodiesel and bioethanol, could not only improve the process economics but also reduce waste generation.

Opis:
The investigation of thermal modulation on double-diffusive stationary convection in the presence of an applied magnetic field and internal heating is carried out. A weakly nonlinear stability analysis has been performed using the finite-amplitude Ginzburg-Landau model. This finite amplitude of convection is obtained at the third order of the system. The study considers three different forms of temperature modulations. OPM-out of phase modulation, LBMO-lower boundary modulation, IPM-in phase modulation. The finite-amplitude is a function of amplitude ,Tδ frequency ω and the phase differenceθ . The effects of Tδ and ω on heat/mass transports have been analyzed and depicted graphically. The study shows that heat/mass transports can be controlled effectively by thermal modulation. Further, it is found that the internal Rayleigh number iR enhances heat transfer and reduces the mass transfer in the system.

Boron nitride (BN) reinforced Al6061 aluminum-based composites are synthesized by conventional stir casting method followed by exposure to hot extrusion. The optical images confirmed the distribution of BN nanoparticles in the aluminum alloy matrix. The concentration of BN is varied from (0.5, 1.5, 3, 4.5, 6, 7.5, and 9 wt%) in the composites and its effect on the tensile strength was investigated. The results revealed that both extruded and heat-treated composites specimens showed enhanced toughness and tensile strength by increasing BN nanoparticle concentration. The heat-treated composite samples showed lower flexibility of up to 40%, and further, it exhibited 37% greater hardness and 32% enhancement in tensile strength over the extruded sample. The tensile properties of Al6061-BN composites were evaluated by temperature-dependent internal friction (TDIF) analysis and the results showed that the as-prepared composite's strength increased with temperature.
