Opis:
$Al_2O_3$ is widely used as the reinforcing additive in the metal matrix composites. The influence of $Al_2O_3$ particle size on the density, hardness, microstructure, yield stress, compression strength, and elongation of the sintered $Al-Al_2O_3$ composites were investigated. In the present study, 10 wt% of $Al_2O_3$ powder with three different particle sizes (3, 12 and 48 μm) were used in the production of the samples. Powder metallurgy technique was utilized to obtain more homogeneous $Al_2O_3$ distribution across the composites. The samples were cold pressed at 440 MPa, and sintered at 550C for 45 min. Results showed that the relative density of the composite was initially increased with decreasing particle size. However, it was decreased with further particle size reduction. It was also pointed out that the mechanical properties of the specimens were increased with decreasing particle size. The grain size and particle distribution homogeneity was decreased with raising the particle size.

Opis:
Growth of demand for containerized cargo shipping has put more ports into pressure to accommodate larger vessels. Considering the limitations on dimensions of navigation channels, this is not feasible unless aiming for significant capital dredging or alternatively creating high precision predictions of vessel motions subjected to environmental forcing and interaction with shallow and restricted waterway. NCOS ONLINE (Nonlinear Channel Optimisation Simulator) is a state of the art navigation support tool which combines DHI’s high level forecast of environmental conditions with mathematical model of ship motions to add an extra level of accuracy in predicting the under-keel clearance and vessel swept path to boost the efficiency of navigation and pilotage within restricted channels. NCOS Manoeuvring Module utilizes an autopilot scheme based on PID (Proportional / Integral / Derivative) controller and Line of Sight Algorithm to FORCE Technology’s SimFlex4 manoeuvring solver for prediction of manoeuvring ship swept path and response, which will effectively bring the accuracy of real time full bridge simulator to fast time operation support tool. In this paper, the result of mathematical model is validated against fullscale measurements of containership transits through Port of Auckland Navigation channel by comparing pilot commands, leeway drift and swept path through output of portable pilotage unit. According to the results the model is found promising to predict the behaviour of human pilots with precision required in operational use. Finally, the swept path and manoeuvring performance of a sample transit is assessed on different environmental conditions and tide stages to evaluate the safe transit windows in operation.

Opis:
In the spring of 2012, sophora (Sophora alopecuroides L.) plants showing symptoms of leaf yellowing, little leaves and stunting were observed in Firooz-kuh (Tehran province), Sari (Mazandaran province) and Urmia (West Azerbaijan province) in Iran. Symptomatic plants from the three locations were subjected to nested polymerase chain reaction (PCR) to amplify 16SrRNA using primer pair P1/P7 followed by primer pair R16F2n/R16R2. Th e amplicons were purifi ed, sequenced and the nucleotide sequences were analyzed by virtual restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP). Th e phytoplasmas associated with the yellows disease were identifi ed as members of the 16SrIX group (Candidatus Phytoplasma phoenicium) and the 16SrXII group (Candidatus Phytoplasma solani). Th e two phytoplasmas were placed in 16SrIX-C and 16SrXII-A subgroups, respectively, in constructed phylogenetic trees. Th is is the fi rst report on sophora yellows associated with Candidatus Phytoplasma phoenicium.

Opis:
Pathogenesis related (PR) genes of rice are among the most important defense genes in the interaction of rice with pathogens. In this study, the role of NH-1, several PR genes, phenylalanine ammonia-lyase (PAL), and lipoxygenase in the defense responses of rice against Rhizoctonia solani, the causal agent of rice sheath blight disease, was evaluated. The Tarom and Khazar cultivars (cvs), as resistant and susceptible genotypes, respectively, were used. The expression rate of defense genes in two-week-old seedlings inoculated with a virulent isolate of R. solani AG-I-1 A was investigated. The lesions in the Tarom cv were less than half the size of those on the Khazar cv. The expression scripts of the genes were calculated by quantative Real-Time PCR (RT-PCR). Results showed that the expression rate of all genes in the resistant cultivar was higher than that of the susceptible genotype, post inoculation. Analysis of data by the t-Student test also indicated significant differences in the expression level of the genes between Khazar and Tarom. The results of this study suggest that the investigated genes are involved in the resistance responses of rice against the sheath blight agent. For the first time, the induction of PR-5, PR-9, PR-10, PR-12, PR-13, and NH-1 was observed in this study in the resistant and susceptible Iranian cultivars of rice following attacks by R. solani.
