Opis:
The aim of this publication is to contribute towards the contemporary discourse on migration policy and to put it in a wider, historical and international context. The point of departure for the analysis is to what extent the increase in international migration flows is to be seen as ‘undesirable’. The main thesis of the book is that advantages of migration outweigh its disadvantages. As Goldin, Cameron and Balarajan show, migration laid out foundations for major civilisations, it links labour markets, has a positive impact on the global economy and contributes to social diversity in receiving states. Moreover, as the authors predict, in the coming decades the West will need migrants more than ever before. Published in the years of the economic crisis, the books tries to allay the fears of the increased immigration in contemporary societies, as well as to inform the reader about the misconceptions and fears about the consequences of immigration. It offers a broad analysis of migration movements, put in a long-term historical perspective.

Opis:
The author analyzes the child burials from the Ptolemaic necropolis to the west of the Djeser pyramid in Saqqara. Issues of whether there was a separated child cemetery there in the Ptolemaic period and/or whether the burial practices with regard to children were different from those practiced for adults are discussed. To achieve these goals, the presence and location of possible clusters of child graves at the site as well as type of graves, burial practices and funerary equipment connected with sub-adults interments are examined.

Numerous studies have been devoted to the analysis of the migration policy of the Polish state. However, the majority of them have focused on the normative analysis of its development without looking at its dynamic and examining it within the theoretical framework of political science. Therefore, the aim of this paper is to overview the available analytical tools which might be useful when characterizing and evaluating the development, directions and aims of the migration policy of the state. Appliance of the proposed analytical tools in the empirical research on the Polish migration policy would enable conceptualization of its dynamic, as well as allow conducting comparative studies.

Opis:
Objectives The pathological increase in the amount of fat in the body is the cause of many diseases. The review of literature and the still current topic suggests the need to continue research on the relationship of obesity in adults with socio-demographic factors, the place of residence, the environment and health behaviors. The aim of the study was to identify factors conducive to the occurrence or coexistence of overweight or normal body weight among Gdańsk residents having school-age children. Material and Methods The primary research tool was a survey questionnaire to be filled in individually, concerning such issues as neighborhood, health behaviors, physical activity and the factors that affect these behaviors, and the risk of obesity. To examine the relationship between neighborhood, health behaviors and overweight, the logistic regression method was applied to determine the odds ratios (OR), showing the extent to which the probability of overweight or obesity increases/decreases. Results A higher level of education as well as a higher income per family member were associated with more correct values of the body mass index (BMI). A statistically significant relationship between the selected health behaviors in non-obese and overweight/obese groups was found. The significance of these was related to such variables as the duration of sleep, eating fast food products, drinking sweetened soft drinks, and eating canned and fried foods. The number of hours of sleep turned out to be significant. There was no significant relationship between the weight status and neighborhood. Conclusions The identification of the risk factors for overweight and obesity among parents of school-age children allows for the implementation of educational activities in this area to interdisciplinary procedures for the health of Tri-City residents.
