This study investigated the relationship of morphological and molecular genetic distance with hybrid performance and heterosis in cucumber in an attempt to make use of genetic distance in predicting hybrid performance. The results of this study showed that GD, in general, correlated poorly with heterosis and SCA. Results showed that the mean values of the hybrids were significantly larger or smaller for many traits when compared with the mean of parental lines, indicating that heterosis was present for these traits. In next step we compare inter group hybrids versus intra group hybrids. This test showed that intra group hybridization although increased the yield and yield component but decrease some fruit quality such as fruit color and shape.

Pseudomonas syringae pv. syringae is a plant pathogen bacterium in rice which causes bacterial sheath rot. In this study, simplified AFLP (Amplified fragment length polymorphism) was tested in order to evaluate genetic diversity of 38 Pseudomonas syringae pv. syringae strains isolated from rice fields of the Guilan province, by 12 AFLP primers. The products resulted from AFLP were separated using agarose gel electrophoresis. The maximum number of PIC among all tested primers belonged to primer 36. Based on the Unweighted Pair Group Method with Arithmetic (UPGMA) method, using NTSISpc Software, all Pseudomonas syringae pv. syringae strains were divided into three distinct clusters which had a 70% similarity level. Cluster analysis of studied populations (isolates of fields, panicles, and nurseries) determined that a high genetic identity could be seen among isolates obtained from the panicles and nurseries, while strains isolated from the fields and nurseries had the most genetic distance with each other. The result of this study showed that sampling site and weather conditions play an important role in genetic evolution of strains. It was also found that AFLP is an effective marker in evaluating genetic diversity within and among isolates being studied, while all of them had the same host and pathogenesis characteristics.

Diosgenin (a steroidal saponin of fenugreek) has long been used as a raw substance for the manufacturing of steroid drugs. In order to evaluate the nutritional effect of different nitrogen (0, 50, 100, 150 and 200 kg ha-1) and copper (0, 10, 20 and 30 kg ha-1) doses on the diosgenin content, growth and yield of fenugreek (var. Ardestan), an experiment was carried out in a factorial arrangement based on complete randomized block design. The diosgenin content in the plant was monitored by a high performance liquid chromatography. Lower doses of copper increased yield, yield component and diosgenin content, but its higher level (30 kg ha-1) had negative effects on the plant yield. The simultaneous application of nitrogen and copper ameliorate the diosgenin production, yield and yield component. The result obtained from correlation and stepwise regression analysis showed that traits such as leaf area index, pods number per plant, and dry weight have significantly direct relation to diosgenin production levels in plants, while dry weight has the highest effect on diosgenin production compared to other traits. According the results, we also can conclude that nitrogen application can decrease copper toxicity in fenugreek in the contaminated soils.
