Opis:
One of the most important applications of spatial data regards the ability to inform decision makers on spatially distributed and disaggregated hazards and risks, thus enhancing strategic decision making on how to manage and limit risks for a given area or region and prioritize investments. However, a full risk based adaptation assessment inside a Geographical Information System (GIS) can be cumbersome, since some complex tasks cannot be carried out directly. One example of these tasks involves Bayesian probabilistic analysis and decision making, which is a fundamental component of risk analysis, yet requires dedicated tools/software which usually do not belong to a standard GIS portfolio. For this reason, exploring the various capabilities of a GIS platform in connection with a Bayesian Network (BN) software is essential. The objective is to have an effective tool for knowledge representation and reasoning under the influence of uncertainty that can be displayed in a spatial manner. A case study using this tool was performed to assess the risk levels faced by the electrical distribution system of Long Island because of storm events as the Sandy Storm.

Opis:
The paper discusses the question of the efficiency of eco-logistics on the food market. The aim of the article is to present major problems related to the impact of food production processes, packaging, distribution and transport on the environment. It presents the origins of eco-logistics in relation to the concepts of logistics and reverse logistics. It analyses the characteristics and general assumptions of the efficiency of eco-logistics processes and describes food market as well as its impact on the natural environment. Furthermore it discusses the issue of waste generation and presents business entities operating on the food market in the aspect of their further development. The question of sanitary standards for products of the food sector is analyzed as well as the dynamics of the development of technologies used in the processes of reverse logistics, changing exogenic expectations and systems of values.
Artykuł podejmuje problematykę efektywności eko-logistyki na rynku produktów żywnościowych. Celem artykułu jest przedstawienie głównych problemów oddziaływania procesów wytwórczych produktów żywnościowych, opakowań, dystrybucji oraz transportu na środowisko. Przedstawiono w nim genezę eko-logistyki w nawiązaniu do pojęcia logistyka i logistyka zwrotna. Została przedstawiona charakterystyka oraz ogólne założenia efektywności procesów eko-logistycznych, jednocześnie opisano rynek produktów żywnościowych oraz jego wpływ na środowisko naturalne. Ponadto określono w nim problematykę generowania odpadów przez podmioty gospodarcze działające na rynku żywnościowym w aspekcie ich dalszego zagospodarowania. Poruszono, także temat norm sanitarnych dla produktów z sektora gospodarki żywnościowej oraz dynamikę rozwoju technologii wykorzystywanych w procesach logistyki zwrotnej, zmieniających się oczekiwań egzogenicznych i systemów wartości.

Dynamic softening behaviors of a promising biomedical Ti-13Nb-13Zr alloy under hot deformation conditions across dual phase α + β and single phase β regions were quantitatively characterized by establishing corresponding dynamic recovery (DRV) and dynamic recrystallization (DRX) kinetic models. A series of wide range hot compression tests on a Gleeble-3500 thermo-mechanical physical simulator were implemented under the strain rate range of 0.01-10 s−1 and the temperature range of 923-1173 K. The apparent differences of flow stress curves obtained in dual phase α + β and single phase β regions were analyzed in term of different dependence of flow stress to temperature and strain rate and different microstructural evolutions. Two typical softening mechanisms about DRV and DRX were identified through the variations of a series of stress-strain curves acquired from these compression tests. DRX is the dominant softening mechanism in dual phase α + β range, while DRV is the main softening mechanism in single phase β range. The DRV kinetic model for single phase β region and the DRX kinetic model for dual phase α + β region were established respectively. In addition, the microstructures of the compressed specimens were observed validating the softening mechanisms accordingly.

In this study, the allelopathic potential of dehulled rice, rice, and hulls of rice on germination of weeds was evaluated in laboratory. Phenolic acids in growth media of these plants were also identified and quantified using HPLC. Identified allelochemicals were reversely tested for phytotoxic effects on germination and seedling growth of barnyardgrass, lettuce, radish and rice. The results showed that the inhibitory effects of dehulled rice were stronger than those of hulls and rice. Dehulled rice caused 66.7% and 50.6% reduction in radish root length and lettuce shoot height, respectively. Dehulled rice showed strong inhibitory effects on root length of lettuce and shoot height of radish while hulls and rice exhibited stimulation. Regarding phenolic identification, vanillin and vanillic acid were detected as allelochemicals in root exudates of rice and tested plants. The results revealed that most of the vanillin and vanillic acid treatments showed high inhibitory effects on germination rates and seedling growth of lettuce and radish, high stimulatory activity on root elongation of rice. Vanillic acid (100 ppm and 200 ppm), vanillin (100 ppm) and their mixture (200 ppm) completely inhibited survival of lettuce. The findings indicate the allelopathic potential of dehulled rice which can be used for identification of more phytotoxins to produce bioherbicides in agricultural practices.

This study was conducted to determine the correlation between of salinity stress on growth and phenolic compounds in rice. It was observed that salinity stress caused a significant decrease in shoot lengths, fresh and dry weights of all rice varieties. Under salinity stress, changes of chemical contents also differed among phenolic compounds and rice cultivars. Total phenolics and flavonoids, and contents of vanillin and protocatechuic acid in tolerant varieties were strongly increased, whereas in contrast, they were markedly reduced in the susceptible cultivar. Ferulic acid and p-coumaric acid were detected only in tolerance rice. Vanillin and protocatechuic acid may play a role, but ferulic acid and p-coumaric acid may be much involved in the tolerant mechanism against salinity stress. Ferulic acid and p-coumaric acid and their derivatives are potent to be exploited as promising agents to reduce detrimental effects of salinity stress on rice production.
