Opis:
In this study, refined finite element models of concrete filled steel tubular long columns with length diameter ratio (L/D) of 50 were established, and their dynamic responses under a rigid-body impact were explored. It is found that the form of impact load is only related to and can be predicted from the impact velocity of the rigid-body. The change of axial stress and strain with time is synchronous with that of the impact load. Furthermore, the variation characteristics of axial stress and strain with time are mainly related to the initial velocity of the rigid-body.

Opis:
Periodontal diseases are the most prevalent bacterial ailments, affecting 10–15% of the global population, and eventually leading to tooth loss if left untreated. Shogaols obtained from ginger (Zingiber officinale) exhibit significant anti-inflammatory activity. However, the antibacterial potential of shogaols against periodontitis remains unexplored. Therefore, we investigated the effects of 6-shogaol (6-SH) on various factors responsible for periodontitis such as inflammation. Escherichia coli endotoxin was used to induce experimental periodontitis, and the effects of 6-SH on hydrogen peroxide, superoxide anion, myeloperoxidase activity, and lipid peroxides were estimated together with cathepsin B, cathepsin D, β-glucuronidase, acid phosphatase, and C-reactive protein activity in serum. In addition, the levels of ascorbic acid, α-tocopherol, ceruloplasmin, reduced glutathione, superoxide dismutase, catalase, glutathione peroxidase, and glutathione S-transferase were estimated in serum after 6-SH treatment. Reactive oxygen species and lipid peroxide levels were significantly reduced in the 6-SH-treated group. Moreover, lysosomal enzyme (cathepsin B, cathepsin D, β-glucuronidase and acid phosphatase) and acute-phase protein (C-reactive protein and fibrinogen) levels significantly declined after administration of 6-SH. Meanwhile, non-enzymatic antioxidant systems (e.g., ascorbic acid, α-tocopherol, ceruloplasmin, and reduced glutathione) and antioxidant enzymes (e.g., catalase, superoxide dismutase, glutathione peroxidase, and glutathione S-transferase) were significantly increased in the 6-SH-treated group. These results suggest a protective effect of 6-SH against experimental periodontitis via the regulation of key disease markers.

Opis:
Simultaneous state and parameter estimation based actuator fault detection and diagnosis (FDD) for single-rotor unmanned helicopters (UHs) is investigated in this paper. A literature review of actuator FDD for UHs is given firstly. Based on actuator healthy coefficients (AHCs), which are introduced to represent actuator faults, a combined dynamic model is established with the augmented state containing both the flight state and AHCs. Then the actuator fault detection and diagnosis problem is transformed into a general nonlinear estimation one: given control inputs and the measured flight state contaminated by measurement noises, estimate both the flight state and AHCs recursively in each time-step, which is also known as the simultaneous state and parameter estimation problem. The estimated AHCs can further be used for fault tolerant control (FTC). Based on the existing widely used nonlinear estimation methods such as the unscented Kalman filter (UKF) and the extended set-membership filter (ESMF), three kinds of adaptive schemes (KF-UKF, MIT-UKF and MIT-ESMF) are proposed by our team to improve the actuator FDD performance. A comprehensive comparative study on these different estimation methods is given in detail to illustrate their advantages and disadvantages when applied to unmanned helicopter actuator FDD.

Opis:
In this paper, a control framework including active fault-tolerant control (FTC) and reference redesign is developed subject to actuator stuck failures under input saturations. FTC synthesis and reference redesign approaches are proposed to guarantee post-fault system safety and reference reachability. Then, these features are analyzed under both actuator stuck failures and constraints before fault-tolerant controller switches. As the main contribution, actuator stuck failures and constraints are unified so that they can be easily considered simultaneously. By means of transforming stuck failures into actuator constraints, the post-fault system can be regarded as an equivalent system with only asymmetrical actuator constraints. Thus, methods against actuator saturations can be used to guarantee regional stability and produce the stability region. Based on this region, stuck compensation is analyzed. Specifically, an unstable open-loop system is considered, which is more challenging. Furthermore, the method is extended to a set-point tracking problem where the reachability of the original reference can be evaluated. Then, a new optimal reference will be computed for the post-fault system if the original one is unreachable. Finally, simulation examples are shown to illustrate the theoretical results.

Opis:
The single-phase voltage loss is a common fault. Once the voltage-loss failure occurs, the amount of electrical energy will not be measured, but it is to be calculated so as to protect the interest of the power supplier. Two automatic calculation methods, the power substitution and the voltage substitution, are introduced in this paper. Considering the lack of quantitative analysis of the calculation error of the voltage substitution method, the grid traversal method and MATLAB tool are applied to solve the problem. The theoretical analysis indicates that the calculation error is closely related to the voltage unbalance factor and the power factor, and the maximum calculation error is about 6% when the power system operates normally. To verify the theoretical analysis, two three-phase electrical energy metering devices have been developed, and verification tests have been carried out in both the lab and field conditions. The lab testing results are consistent with the theoretical ones, and the field testing results show that the calculation errors are generally below 0.2%, that is correct in most cases.

Opis:
Chlamydia has a unique intracellular developmental cycle, which has hindered the single protein function study of Chlamydia. Recently developed transformation system of Chlamydia has greatly advanced the chlamydial protein's function research and was used to find that a chlamydial plasmid-encoded Pgp5 protein can down-regulate plasmid-dependent genes. It is assumed, that chlamydial genomic MinD protein has a similar function to Pgp5. However, it is unknown whether MinD protein regulates the same plasmid-dependent genes. We replaced pgp5 gene in the shuttle vector pGFP::CM with minD gene of C. trachomatis (CT0582) or C. muridarum (TC0871). The recombinant plasmid was transformed into plasmid-free organisms-CMUT3 and qRT-PCR was used to detect the transcription level of plasmid-encoded and -dependent genes in these pgp5 deficient organisms. As a readout, GlgA, one of the plasmid-regulated gene products was detected by immunofluorescence assay. After recombination, transformation and plaque purification, the stable transformants CT0582R and TC0871R were generated. In these transformants, the plasmid-dependent genes were up-regulated, alike in the pgp5 premature stop mutant and pgp5 replacement with mCherry mutant. GlgA protein level was also increased in all pgp5 mutants, including CT0582R and TC0871R. Thus, our study showed that genomic MinD protein had different function than Pgp5, which was useful for further understanding the chlamydiae.
