    The modern agglomerations development remains under the influence of current global trends: economic, environmental/climate, social, technological, geopolitical ones. At least six forces are expected to further disrupt the urban mobility landscape, especially coastal one. From self-driving vehicles and the sharing economy, to vehicle electrification, mobile computing, the Internet of Things and Block-chain technologies, each of these trends is quite significant on its own. The actions undertaken by city authorities aim at focusing citizens' attention on the need to improve air quality, decrease congestion in city’s main streets, invest in one’s health and physical condition, which increases the level of quality of life, and in turn provides the city with considerable economic benefits. The purpose of the paper is to explore global trends shaping life quality in coastal agglomerations with a special regard to sustainable mobility and to present the ISO 37120 - a tool allowing measurement, based on the indicators, of the cities resilience and performance.

Due to globalization processes and liberalization of the EU transport markets the seaports are under the huge competitive pressure put mainly by container transport operators committed in the logistic transport chains.     Celem publikacji jest przedstawienie potrzeb informacyjnych w zakresie monitorowania zrównoważonej mobilności. Dokonano tego opierając się na krytycznej analizie literatury przedmiotu oraz przeprowadzonym za pomocą kwestionariusza ankiety badaniu dotyczącym zachowań transportowych. Przeanalizowano również zainteresowanie respondentów podróżami na trasie nowo otwartej Pomorskiej Kolei Metropolitalnej (PKM). W pierwszej części publikacji zaprezentowano możliwości pomiaru i monitorowania trwałego i zrównoważonego rozwoju transportu. W drugiej zaś omówiono wyniki badań dotyczących mobilności mieszkańców Trójmiasta.
    It is essential to respond to the territorial cohesion and societal challenges in Poland during the 2014- 2020 financial period. High costs of transport investments covered from public funding mainly, call for taking the right decisions concerning sustainable mobility. They should be based on good monitoring systems and evaluation of their effectiveness in terms of environmental, social and economic effects. Based on the available statistical data, the paper explores the sustainable mobility monitoring data necessities. The research has been carried out throughout the literature analysis and survey research concerning Tricity (Gdańsk, Sopot, Gdynia) inhabitants commuting behavior and their interest regarding the new Metropolitan Pomeranian Railway. It is highly recommended to develop a research program concerning the collection, analysis and application of high quality, standardized transport data in order to be able to provide an adequate framework for transport planning and policy benchmarking. Although transport-related statistics are widely gathered, their quality is not good enough for making right policy decisions with sustainability paradigm in mind.

    Dynamiczny rozwój miast i zmiany stylu życia mieszkańców sprawiają, że ich potrzeby transportowe nieustannie wzrastają. Sytuacja taka stawia przed prężnie rozwijającymi się miastami wyzwania wobec zrównoważonego podejścia w zakresie mobilności. Celem publikacji jest zaprezentowanie procesu kształtowania mobilności w miastach na przykładzie aspektów komunikacyjnych. Pozytywnie zweryfikowano hipotezę badawczą zakładającą, iż mieszkańcy Gdyni są zadowoleni z jakości nawiązywanej komunikacji z samorządem miejskim w odniesieniu do kształtowania mobilności miejskiej. Może to stanowić podstawę do bardziej aktywnego włączania ich w procesy planistyczne. Badania oparto na źródłach literatury przedmiotu oraz wynikach pilotażowych badań ankietowych zrealizowanych wśród respondentów.
    The dynamic development of cities and the changing residents life style make their transport needs constantly increasing. This situation poses for dynamically developing cities lots of challenges for a sustainable approach to mobility. The aim of the publication is to present the shaping urban mobility process with a particular emphasis on the social communication aspects. The research hypothesis has been positively verified: the inhabitants of Gdynia are generally satisfied with the communication quality with the city authorities in relation to the development of urban mobility. This may provide a basis for a more active involvement in the planning processes in future. The study has been based on the sources of literature and the results of pilot survey research carried out among residents.

    Zarządzanie w dziedzinie transportu wymaga od władz publicznych uwzględnienia wszystkich aspektów zrównoważonego rozwoju, takich jak emisje, hałas, użytkowanie gruntów oraz różnorodność biologiczna. Niezbędne jest także oparcie przewidzianych do realizacji działań na długoterminowej wizji mobilności ludzi i towarów, która obejmuje cały system transportowy, oraz na uzupełniających ją działaniach na poziomie całego obszaru UE, a także na poziomie krajowym i regionalnym. Strategiczne planowanie rozwoju transportu powinno być oparte o realne możliwości finansowania i wykonania tego typu inwestycji. Artykuł, opierając się na dostępnych dokumentach strategicznych oraz danych, prezentuje uwarunkowania zarządzania zrównoważonym transportem w Polsce w kontekście aktualnych założeń strategicznych UE, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem znowelizowanej w marcu 2011 roku Białej Księgi dotyczącej transportu.
    Sustainable transport management requires from public authorities supporting greater use of public and non-motorized transport and promotion of an integrated approach to policy making including policies and planning for land use, infrastructure, public transport systems and goods delivery networks, with a view to providing safe, affordable and efficient transportation, increasing energy efficiency and reducing pollution, congestion and also adverse health effects. Based on the available strategic documents and statistical data, the paper presents the sustainable transport management in Poland in the context of the updated EU transport.

    The investments co-financed by the EU funds have enabled to raise the Polish infrastructure network quality level. There is a noticeable indicators improvement in the western and central part of Poland, especially as far as the road and air accessability is concerned. At the same time, there has been an increase of internal differences between regions. In the various transport modes in the Polish regions in 2009-2011, investments in road and rail transport have been much higher in comparison to the other modes and types of transport. Based on the available statistical data, collected throughout the Ministry of Regional Development, the paper explores the regional structure of the EU transport investments in the context of the Polish transport system development tendencies.

Można jednak wyselekcjonować wskaźniki powtarzające się przy każdym podejściu do pomiaru postępów wprowadzania koncepcji rozwoju transportu w życie. Celem artykułu jest zaprezentowanie, opierając się na dostępnych dokumentach oraz doświadczeniach badawczych, mierników zrównoważonego transportu na poziomach międzynarodowym, UE i krajowym, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem wymiaru regionalnego.
    The factorial sustainable transport measurement is quite a challenge because of a diversified approach to this matter in the subject matter literature and various international and national strategic documents. However, it is possible to determine and select the indicators that are common and repeatedly applied at a very single approach to the measurement of the progress of implementation of sustainable development paradigm. The paper, based on the available documents and research experiences, presents the sustainable transport indicators on the international, EU and Polish level with a special regard to regional dimension.

    The SARS-CoV-2 pandemic that began to spread across the world in 2020 still poses a threat not only to human life and health, but also to the global economy. This situation led to the breakdown of many supply chains, and this could have resulted in the collapse of the international exchange of goods. The COVID-19 affected the shipping industries development: shipping operators, port operators, government authorities, shippers, seafarers, passengers, supply chain operators and others. The paper presents the impact of the pandemic on the working model throughout the results of a survey conducted among the office employees of a shipowner company being one of the leaders in the maritime container transport sector. It aimed to investigate the effects of the pandemic as regards the management and organisation processes in the light of digital transformation within this enterprise. Employees were asked to express their opinion on the advantages and disadvantages of the remote work and its influence on the way they performed their duties. At the beginning, employees were most affected by the lack of direct contact with colleagues. At the same time, many of them declared that after the end of the pandemic, they would like to combine the remote and office work . The hypothesis of this research reads as follows: as a reaction to the COVID-19 pandemic, a new working model has been created allowing the continuity and the efficiency of operations in the maritime container sector, therefore ensuring the resilience within the global supply chains. The results prove that the transition of office workers to remote digitalised working mode allowed the company to continue operating efficiently during the first phase of the pandemic. Actually, this new mode, which was initially meant to be only a temporary solution, has become the dominant form or a combination with the traditional mode of work, creating a kind of hybrid version working model in the company.

    In the paper, divided into two parts, a problem of advancements in maritime education and research facing the 21st century challenges, based on the case study of the Gdynia Maritime University (GMU) experience is discussed. Part I is devoted to the advances in the maritime education and research towards the challenges in a global meaning. The maritime education challenges are focused on contribution of the University’s representatives in full implementation of the STCW 1978 as amended in 2010 convention, and on the flexible adoption of the academic specializations and programmes to the European and National Qualifications Frameworks, as well as to the needs of a global and local labour market. The research advancements in the maritime universities are basically oriented to marine transport problems, and their main focus is concentrated on the implementation of new technologies, effective and reliable technical and organizational solutions, friendly for users and environment. Part II is dedicated to the Gdynia Maritime University experiencing the 21st century challenges. In this part, firstly the education and research potential of the Gdynia Maritime University, as the one of the world-leading maritime universities, is shortly presented.
