Opis:
One of the benefits resulting from the implementation of land consolidation works should be the positive socio-economic change felt in rural areas. The aim of this paper is to examine the level of socio-economic development of rural municipalities of Małopolska Region, in which land consolidation projects were implemented in the years 2004–2013. The following were determined: the scope of implementation of land consolidation projects in municipalities of Małopolska Region, and the level of the socio-economic development of those municipalities. The study employed the following methods: analysis and synthesis of the literature, and the application of spatial-statistical approaches. The study determined that the values of the indicator expressing the dynamics of changes to the socio-economic development of municipalities were three times higher for the municipalities in which traditional land consolidation works were implemented as opposed to infrastructural ones. It was also observed that in the municipalities, in which traditional consolidation works were implemented, the level of socio-economic changes always took positive values, thus indicating the socio-economic development advantage compares to the situation in municipalities in which infrastructural consolidation projects were implemented.

Opis:
Land use conversion is a dynamic process that occurs all over the world. The scale of this process is global, and depends on related driving forces. There are numerous case studies of land use changes but only a few synthesise the results. The aim of the study is to analyse historical land use conversions in two villages located in peri-urban areas of the city of Kraków, and in particular, to indicate the directions of these changes associated with the distance of the given village to Kraków. The examples of two villages were selected so as to indicate the direction of changes in the immediate vicinity of the city as well as in a zone further outside the city. The aim is also to present a possible approach to monitoring the long-term development of these areas. As regards Poland, the expansion of urban pattern of land development outside the administrative boundaries of cities results in direct interference in agricultural production space, and not infrequently in areas having particular natural and cultural values. This is also the case within the zone of the direct impact of the city of Kraków on areas located to the south of the urban agglomeration. The article confirms that the changes involve the conversion of agricultural areas into built-up and urbanised areas. Nevertheless, the study results indicate an unexpected increase in the area of wasteland in close vicinity of the city, despite soil conditions being favourable to pursuing agricultural activities. It is a long-term study, which considers precise maps showing land use structure. It is the first step towards designing multi-scale studies that would consider land use changes in the neighbourhood of metropolitan areas.

Opis:
According to the SRES A1B climate change scenario, by the end of the 21st century temperature in Poland will increase by 2–4°C, no increase in precipitation totals is predicted. This will rise crop irrigation needs and necessity to develop irrigation systems. Due to increase in temperature and needs of sustainable agriculture development some changes in crop growing structure will occur. An increase interest in high protein crops cultivation has been noted last years and further extension of these acreage is foreseen. Identifying the future water needs of these plants is crucial for planning and implementing sustainable agricultural production. In the study, the impact of projected air temperaturę changes on soybean water needs, one of the most valuable high-protein crops, in 2021-2050 in the Kuyavia region in Poland was analysed. The calculations based on meteorological data collected in 1981-2010 were considered as the reference period. Potential evapotranspiration was adopted as a measure of crop water requirements. The potential evapotranspiration was estimated using the Penman–Monteith method and crop coefficient. Based on these estimations, it was found that in the forecast years the soybean water needs will increase by 5% in the growing period (from 21 April to 10 September), and by 8% in June-August. The highest monthly soybean water needs increase (by 15%) may occur in August. The predicted climate changes and the increase in the arable crops water requirements, may contribute to an increase in the irrigated area in the Kuyavia region and necessity of rational management of water resources.
