Opis:
The association of changes in mammal diversity with periods of global climatic change is suggestive of a causal relationship. Two important features in the testing of this climatic model are as follows: the timing and the pattern of the diversity changes, and the particular climatic variables examined, since different patterns of evolutionary interactions would be expected depending on different climatic variables. In order to analyse the relationship between climate change and faunal events, we need to establish a set of comparable data. To provide a finely resolved picture of both climatic and faunal events, the last 32,500-years were divided into 13 chronological units of 2,500-years each. The limit of 32,500-years was imposed by the availability of good localities with radioisotopic calibration. Climatic stability was measured in these analyses in terms of cycles per unit of time, the amount of variation in temperature per unit of time, and the magnitude of change between modal temperature of one interval less modal temperature from preceding interval. The data presented here suggest that the primary effect of climatic change is on: (1) levels of extinction (or migration) of large mammals; and (2) diversity and origination (or immigration) of small mammals.

Opis:
This study looked into the risk factors to musculoskeletal disorders and established anthropometric measurements of Filipino workers in 29 manufacturing industries. Anthropometric measurements of 1,805 workers were taken, and 495 workers were surveyed. Limitation of motion was found in 0.8% of the respondents, affectation in activities of daily living was seen in 1.6% and 3.2% felt discomfort in the head and neck. Upper trunk and low back pain was experienced by 23.8%. Odds ratio results (p = .05) showed that it is 29 times likely for workers to develop low back pain when they stand for 2-8 hrs a day than when they sit all the time. Anthropometry can be used for the design of workstations and work furniture.

Opis:
Despite the exceptional palaeontological richness of the renowned Santana Group from the Early Cretaceous Araripe Basin of Brazil, only one specimen of true crabs (Brachyura) has been discovered to date. Here we present two new genera and species of brachyuran crabs from the upper Aptian–lower Albian Romualdo Formation of the Santana Group, represented by 30 specimens from several localities across the Araripe Basin in the state of Pernambuco, Brazil. One taxon, Exucarcinus gonzagai Prado and Luque gen. et sp. nov., is similar to several endemic stem raninoidans (Orithopsidae) from the late Aptian and early Albian of Colombia and the USA, respectively, while Romualdocarcinus salesi Prado and Luque gen. et sp. nov., seems to be closer to “higher” true crabs (Eubrachyura) from the Cenomanian of Spain. The presence of taxa similar to those from the mid-Cretaceous of northern South America, southern North America, and western Europe, reinforces the view of a Tethyan marine influence in Araripe during the breakup of South America and Africa, and adds to the growing data that suggest a generic and specific degree of endemism of true crabs in tropical South America during the mid-Cretaceous.
