Opis:
A new version of the construction of the extraordinary magnetoresistance effect (EMR) based magnetic sensor has been proposed [2]. The differences between the original three dimensional (3D) construction and proposed 2D (planar) construction are presented. In proposed construction the metallic thin film (shunt) is coplanar with the semiconductor sensitive element. There are advantages of that planar construction like easier way of technological obtaining of the device. Another advantage is its application for EMR sensors based on new electronic materials like graphene and topological insulator thin films. The validity of the planar construction has been experimentally confirmed for model EMR sensors based on InSb/Ag structures. Comparison of the obtained experimental data with computational simulations of the EMR effect on planar model EMR sensors is performed Finite element method (FEM) is used as a tool for obtaining EMR effect simulations.

Opis:
Soft X-ray (SXR) plasma measurements are important type of diagnostics especially in tokamak facilities. Main output products are energy and topology spectra distributed in time. In case of Gas Electron Multiplier (GEM) detectors, used as radiation sensors, large number of analog readout channels must be provided. For this purpose Field-Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs) are used. Data quality monitoring (DQM) is important topic in case of asynchronous events registered by the measurement unit. Due to numerous FPGAs used it is necessary to provide advanced trigger synchronization between them. In the paper is proposed an algorithmic approach for the trigger link training and diagnostics. It is a key component in order to provide consistent measurement data for DQM analysis. The contents of the article covers the plasma experiments and related DQM topics. In following chapters explanation of the synchronization problem is described. The proposed algorithm will be used for trigger link synchronization and diagnostics aspects. The simulations are also discussed. Currently, the proposed ideas are at the stage of implementation and tests on real hardware. Simulation were successfully performed. Summary of the work carried out is presented at the end of the paper.

Opis:
Linear accelerators such as Free Electron Lasers (FELs) use superconducting (SC) resonant cavities to accelerate electron beam to high energies. TESLA type resonators are extremely sensitive to detuning induced by mechanical deformations - Lorentz force detuning (LFD), mainly due to the extremely high quality factor (Q) of the 1.3 GHz resonance mode, in the range of 10 6. The resulting modulation of a resonance frequency of the cavity makes power consumption and stability performances of the Low-Latency Radio Frequency (LLRF) control more critical. In order to minimize the RF control efforts and desired stabilities, the fast piezoelectric actuators with digital control systems are commonly used. The paper presents a novel approach for automatic control of piezoelectric actuators used for compensation of Lorentz force detuning, the practical application and carried out tests in accelerating module ACC6 in Free-Electron Laser in Hamburg (FLASH).

Opis:
Based on the publications regarding new or recent measurement systems for the tokamak plasma experiments, it can be found that the monitoring and quality validation of input signals for the computation stage is done in different, often simple, ways. In the paper is described the unique approach to implement the novel evaluation and data quality monitoring (EDQM) model for use in various measurement systems. The adaptation of the model is made for the GEM-based soft X-ray measurement system FPGA-based. The EDQM elements has been connected to the base firmware using PCI-E DMA real-time data streaming with minimal modification. As additional storage, on-board DDR3 memory has been used. Description of implemented elements is provided, along with designed data processing tools and advanced simulation environment based on Questa software.

Opis:
Preliminary results of positron annihilation lifetime measurements, performed for carbon black-LDPE composites with three kinds of carbon black (PRINTEX XE2, VULCAN XC-72, and SAKAP 6) are presented. Four components with lifetimes τ$\text{}_{1}$≈ 120 ps, τ$\text{}_{2}$≈340 ps, τ$\text{}_{3}$≈1.2 ns, τ$\text{}_{4}$≈2.8 ns occurred to be the best fitted to measured positron lifetime spectra. The presence of carbon black resulted only in reduction of intensities of the components with the lifetimes τ$\text{}_{1}$, τ$\text{}_{3}$, τ$\text{}_{4}$ (originating in our opinion from the annihilation of the positronium) and increase in the intensity of the component with the lifetime τ$\text{}_{2}$. The intensities depend both on the content of carbon black and its kind as well. The strongest influence of the carbon black of the highest specific surface area (PRINTEX XE2) has been observed at the intensities which correlate well with the results of studies of resistivity and tensile strength for the same samples.

Opis:
The paper describes Trigger and Data Acquisition (TRIDAQ) systems of accelerator experiments for High Energy Physics. The background for physics research comprises assumptions of the Standard Model theory with basic extensions. On this basis, a structure of particle detector system is described, with emphasis on the following functional blocks: Front-End Electronics, Trigger and DAQ systems. The described solutions are used in the LHC experiments: ATLAS, ALICE, CMS and LHCb. They are also used in other accelerator experiments. Data storage and processing functionality is divided into two hardware systems: Trigger and Data Acquisition, that are dependent on each other. High input data rate impose relevant choices for the architecture and parameters of both systems. The key parameters include detailed system structure and its overall latency. Trigger structure is defined by the physics requirements and the storage capability of DAQ system. Both systems are designed to achieve the highest possible space and time resolution for particle detection. Trigger references are reviewed [1]–[39] as well as chosen accelerator research efforts originating in this country [40]–[83].

Opis:
Pulsed operation of high gradient superconducting radio frequency (SCRF) cavities results in dynamic Lorentz force detuning (LFD) approaching or exceeding the bandwidth of the cavity of order of hundred of Hz. The resulting modulation of the resonance frequency of the cavity is leading to a perturbation of the amplitude and phase of the accelerating field, which can be controlled only at the expense of RF power |1-3|. The X-Ray Free Electron Laser (X-FEL) accelerator, which is now under development in Deutsches Elektro wen-Synchrotron (DESY), will consists of around 800 cavities with a fast tuner fixture including the actuator / sensor configuration. Therefore, it is necessary to design a distributed control system which could be able to supervise around 25 RF stations, each one comprised of 32 cavities. The Advanced Telecommunications Computing Architecture (ATCA) was chosen to design, develop, and build a Low Level Radio Frequency (LLRF) controller for X-FEL. The already performed tests of ATCA LLRF control system proofed the possibilities of usage of such a standard for high energy physics experiments |4|. The paper presents the concept of integration of the piezo compensation system to the ATCA standards with special emphasis to the hardware part of the system. Moreover, the first results from carried out tests of the prototype power supply unit for piezo drivers integrated to ATCA board will be presented.

We present a feasibility study of fast events parameters estimation algorithms regarding their execution time. It is the first stage of procedure used on data gathered from gas electron multiplier (GEM) detector for diagnostic of plasma impurities. Measured execution times are estimates of achievable times for future and more complex algorithms. The work covers usage of Intel Xeon and Intel Xeon Phi - high-performance computing (HPC) devices as a possible replacement for FPGA with highlighted advantages and disadvantages. Results show that less than 10 ms feedback loop can be obtained with the usage of 25% hardware resources in Intel Xeon or 10% resources in Intel Xeon Phi which leaves space for future increase of algorithms complexity. Moreover, this work contains a simplified overview of basic problems in actual measurement systems for diagnostic of plasma impurities, and emerging trends in developed solutions.
