Opis:
The article describes eight wooden string instruments found during archaeological excavations in Poland. The instruments are currently housed in Polish museums and research institutes and are a part of the national heritage. They date back to the period between the end of the 10th century and the first half of the 16th century. The instruments originating from the Middle Ages and early Renaissance reflect a high wood culture in Poland in the early centuries of its history. These archaeological collections include four different types of string instruments: lyres, vielles (fiddles), rebecs, and lutes. Individual parts of all the instruments were subjected to detailed measurements including the total length, width and thickness of the body, the total length, width and thickness of the soundboard and the wall height. The type of wood used for their construction was also determined and included: Norway spruce (Picea abies) – the older lyre from Opole and the soundboards of the gittern from Elbląg, lime (Tilia sp.) – the younger lyre from Opole and the lyre from Gdańsk, aspen (Alnus sp.) – the bodies of the vielles from Elbląg and Płock and the body of the gittern from Elbląg, European beech (Fagus sylvatica) – the peg board of the hypothetical rebec from Ostrów Lednicki, as well as Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris) – the soundboards of the vielles from Płock and of the supposed nyckelharp from Wolin. The soundboards of the vielles from Elbląg was made of alder or poplar, while the pegs and bridges – of maple (Acer sp.), birch (Betula sp.) and oak (Quercus sp.). The body of the instruments: the soundbox with the neck and with a peg board or pegbox was usually made of one piece of wood and covered with a separate soundboard made of different or the same type of wood as the body. However, the soundboards are found less often than the instrument bodies because the plates with a few−millimetre thickness are more prone to decay.

Opis:
The article describes twelve recorders excavated from archaeological sites dating back to the Mediaeval times and the Renaissance. Three of them are in the museums in Germany, two in the Netherlands and one in Estonia. Six are in Polish museum collections. The flutes from five locations (Puck, Nysa, Płock, Toruń and Warsaw) are described in this paper for the first time. All the instruments from the Polish territory have been accurately measured and identified for the kind of wood from which they were made. All the flutes were made from one piece of wood of the following tree genera: lilac (Nysa, Płock), plum (Dordrecht, Göttingen), cherry (Würzburg), maple (Elblag, Toruń, Tartu), boxwood (Esslingen, Amsterdam) and spruce (Puck, Warsaw). The oldest known recorders were primarily made of fruit tree wood (Würzburg, Dordrecht, Göttingen). Interesting was the use of spruce wood (softwood) for making aerophones, absent in the later preserved instruments of this type.

Opis:
The objective of the study was to determine feeding preferences of the khapra beetle (Trogoderma granarium Everts) towards some plant products. The material for the investigations was composed of grain of four barley varieties: Brenda, Krona, Maresi, Rasbet; barley malt, and nutlets of three varieties of buckwheat: Hruszowska, Emka and Kora. The reference material comprised wheat grain of the commercial variety Almari. The results showed that the development of T. granarium larvae on barley grain and malt took longer than on wheat grain. The authors observed that buckwheat nutlets were comparable to barley kernels as a food for the development of the pest. The pest showed more feeding preferences to buckwheat products, grits and meal to barley grain.

Opis:
The aim of the experiment was to assess the susceptibility of buckwheat grains and products to the infestation by Trogoderma granarium Everts. The observations were conducted on three buckwheat cultivars: Hruszowska, Emka and Kora. The results suggest that buckwheat grains and products as suitable for the development of the first larval stages of Trogoderma granarium as wheat grain and wheat flour. However, extension of the development stage on buckwheat seems to indicate that the seed cover inhibits the capacity of larvae to feed on buckwheat.

Opis:
Energy autarky is a concept commonly used in the context the of power off-grid or remote island systems. However, it has rarely reflected the idea of self-sufficiency of urban units, especially in cities with access to external technical infrastructures such as power and district heating networks. Energy autarky can also be considered auxiliary to nZEB calculation procedures, as an energy demand-supply balancing approach for calculating renewable energy shares. In fact, in Central and Eastern Europe for existing urban tissues buildings' self-sufficiency would be difficult to achieve due to a dominating role of space heating in energy demand shares. Proportions can, however, change in nZEB (nearly zero energy) buildings, with increasing importance and shares of electricity in the final energy consumption and a decreasing role of space heat. In this article a new approach to planning of energy (electricity) autarky at the level of an urban unit is presented, taking into account new nZEB standards at the same time. This is supposed to serve as a voice in the discourse on the formulation of future methodologies.

Glucagonoma
tumor
peptide receptor radionuclide therapy
Opis:
Introduction: Glucagonoma is a rare pancreatic neuroendocrine tumor derived from alpha-cells of the islet of Langerhans. Due to oversecretion of glucagon it is associated with a characteristic paraneoplastic phenomenon, called glucagonoma syndrome, which consists of necrolytic migratory erythema (NME), weight loss, diabetes mellitus, diarrhea, normochromic normocytic anemia, deep vein thrombosis or pulmonary embolism and neuropsychiatric disturbances. Treatment modalities include surgical removal of tumor, somatostatin analogs and peptide receptor radionuclide therapy (PRRT). Case report: We present a case of 61-year-old woman diagnosed with glucagonoma in April 2012. Initially, body-caudal pancreatomy and resection of regional lymph nodes were performed. Five months after surgery, a PET-CT scan detected pathological mass with expression of somatostatin receptors in pancreatic body and metastases to regional lymph nodes. What is more, since April 2014 the patient had complained about persistent pruritus of the entire body. At present, due to the nonsurgical pancreatic mass and metastases she is treated with somatostatin analogs and PRRT. During this therapy the pruritus had decreased and currently there is no sign of cutaneous disease. Moreover, reduction of tumor size was obtained. Conclusions: PRRT may reduce tumor size and by reducing bothersome symptoms substantially improve the quality of life in patients with SSTR-positive tumors
