Opis:
Editorial activity of the Publishing House “Dehon” for twenty years of its existence has been deep-rooted in charisma and mission of fr. Dehon, the founder of the Congregation of Priests of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Fr. Dehon was the author of many social and spiritual books and articles. It is worth mentioning especially his social works because of their originality, inventiveness, and, at the same time, their full faithfulness to the social doctrine of the Church as taught by the pope Leo XIII. Three books by fr Dehon are particularly notable: “Le Règne du Cœur de Jésus dans les âmes et dans les sociétés,” „Manuel Social Chrétien,” and „Catéchisme social”. Apart from works mentioned above we have a lot of writing by fr. Dehon that still wait for their critical analysis and publication. It is an important task, because the writings of the founder remain for the member of the Congregation an exhaustible source of knowledge about life and activity of fr. Dehon. The Publishing House “Dehon” has already begun the translation and publication of some works of fr Dehon. There have been also many social and spiritual publications that draw on the same spirit. We hope and we wish that it is also continued in future.

Leon Dehon
Opis:
Father Dehon discovering and deepening in his personal spiritual life the cult of the Sacred Heart of Jesus was simultaneously experiencing that love with which God loved a human through Christ. Not only he experienced God’s love for himself, but moreover in response to this love he loved Him back, promised Him faithfulness and reparation while preaching and showing that love towards the people. The contribution of Fr. Dehon into the development and spread of the cult of the Sacred Heart of Jesus wouldn’t have happened without his personal devotion to the Heart of Jesus. The seed of this devotion has been planted during his childhood, however the time of the rapid growth and consolidation of this spiritual maturity took shape in time of his studies in the French seminary. The subject of Fr. Dehon’s cult was the second Person of the Holy Trinity, Jesus Christ and particularly the Heart of Jesus, but the fundamental reason for that cult was the love of the Redeemer of the world. We can notice here the exact mirroring of the teaching presented by the pope Pius XII in the encyclical Haurietis aquas. The Trinitarian dimension of the spread of the cult of the Sacred Heart of Jesus is also visible in the apostolic activity of Fr. Dehon and in the activity of the first priests of the Congregation. Thanks to their zeal that cult has been constantly promoted. Writing activity of Fr. Dehon contributed towards the growth of the cult of the Sacred Heart of Jesus through preaching of the love of God toward human and promoting that love in day to day life. His social activity was based on the conviction that the biggest problem in the social field was simply lack of love and as a consequence and a side effect building of the unjust society. Living the spirituality of the Sacred Heart that way Fr. Dehon has had an unquestionable contribution towards the development and spread of that cult.

Opis:
The author discusses the theme of the recently concluded XIII Synod, while awaiting the post-synodal apostolic exhortation. In the first part, in order to grasp the theme, the author presents the story of the term “New Evangelization”. For this he turns to the teaching of Pope John Paul II, where one can find a number of indications for the point of departure of new evangelization, the Pope’s insights into evangelization and the reasons why there is a need for a new evangelization. In the second part, the author presents the essential content of new evangelization according to Benedict XVI, especially in the areas of conversion, witness, and its kerygmatic, charismatic and communitary dimensions. The final part touches on the importance of the role of the laity. It emphasizes the importance of prayer. The most fruitful and appropriate prayer in the context of new evangelization today is Lectio divina. It concludes in affirming that this action is without doubt a great challenge for the Church of Europe.

Ignacy z Loyoli
Opis:
Spirituality of St. Ignatius of Loyola has inspired many saints and founders of religious congregations. Among them there was also Fr. Leon Dehon, the founder of the Congregation of the Priests of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. He touched on the way of the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius thanks to his numerous contacts with Jesuit Fathers. Among them Fr. Dehon had professors, collaborators, friends, as well as spiritual directors. Fr. Dehon was fascinated by the personality and spirituality of St. Ignatius. He undertook the Spiritual Exercises in the most important moments of his religious and priestly life: when he began his study in the college in Hazebrouck and when he entered the French Seminary of Saint Claire in Rome, when he was searching his religious vocation as a diocesan priest and in the first years after he had founded the Congregation, before the first General Chapter and before his perpetual vows. As a mature priest and religious, Fr. Dehon undertook the Spiritual Exercises when he was celebrating the 25th anniversary of his priesthood and before he left the cradle of the Congregation – the College of St. John. The exercises were not without influence on the spirituality of Fr. Dehon and on his spiritual life. We can find an echo of several meditations or contemplations offered by St. Ignatius in the spirituality of Fr. Dehon and in the spirituality of his Congregation. The traces of the Exercises can be also found in both his decisions and his teaching directed to his brothers in religious life and to the laity.

Leon Dehon
Opis:
The imitation of Jesus Christ on the way of the Evangelical Counsels according to the charisma offered to fr Leon Dehon, the founder of the Congregation of Priests of the Sacred Heart, constitutes a special vocation of Priests of the Sacred Heart. They imitate Jesus Christ – chaste, poor and obedient – living according to charisma of their founder and putting into practice the Evangelical Counsels on the their specific dehonian spirituality. Fr Dehon encourages his spiritual sons to pure love, to the total sacrifice made of themselves, and to count implicitly on God’s will. All these three elements make up the spirit of reparation, that was so important for the founder of the Congregation of Priests of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and for the spirituality of his Congregation. Religious consecration in our dehonian spirituality combines both: the spirit of reparation and religious vows, that are in the Church one of the ways to imitate Christ and at the same time a confession and a sign of the Holy Trinity. In our dehonian spirituality the life according to the Evangelical Counsels becomes a practice of pure love, full of sell-sacrifice and implicit entrustment to God’s will.

Opis:
The crisis can be an opportune time for the growth of a human person. It can also be very fruitful in the context of religious or priestly vocation. It seems that every crisis, even when it does not refer directly to the emotional dimension of the human person, is always crisis of love. The crisis that human being has to face is always a gift of God too. It is a valuable gift because while facing the crisis, one gains the freedom of God who purifies and converts. This oft en happens through the experience of drama, and contains several critical moments. The crisis is a time of fidelity that pushes person’s life forward. A crisis, when one faces it in good way will allow an internal, spiritual development. It can also create a new covenant between the Creator and the creature. Do not be afraid, we want to repeat this invocation of John Paul II, do not be afraid of the crisis, because it can produce great and profound fruits in the life of every human person regardless of the vocation which he lives realizing the image of God who is Love.

lectio divina
Opis:
The prayer with the use of the word of God, Lectio divina, is one of the best methods to enter into the dialog with God. It has it roots in the deep Christian tradition and it keeps to be relevant even today. Over the years it assumed its classical division to: lectio, meditatio, oratio and contemplatio. From time immemorial the Church encourages people to practice this form of prayer. It was also fostered by the teaching of the Second Vatican Council, by the teaching after the Council, as well as by the popes John Paul II and Benedict XVI. These encouragements bear the fruits in the life of numerous Christian communities and in the life of many people, because it seems be a form of prayer suitable for both: individual people and communities. This form of prayer finds also its place in many theological publications especially those concerning Christian spirituality. The best example for everyone wanting to practice Lectio divina was given by Mary, because it cannot be treated only as a method of prayer. It is something more; it is a style of life that forms the relationship with God and with other people as well. The life of Mary is distinguished exactly by this style.
