Opis:
The DETERMINE project (2007–2010) was coordinated by EuroHealth-Net and there were 24 countries involved. It was an EU consortium for action on the socio-economic determinants of health (SDH). The overall objective was to mobilize action for health equity in the European Union, especially through achieving greater awareness and capacity amongst decision makers in all policy sectors to take health and health equity into consideration when developing policy and to strengthen collaboration between health and other sectors. Several phases of activities were carried out e.g.: identification of actions and policies addressing the socio-economic determinants of health inequalities (SDHI) in UE member states, recognition of innovative approaches in the context of SDH and selection of three small pilot projects with promising approach, consultations with politicians and policy makers outside the health sector on their attitude towards SDHI and their role in achieving health equity, identification of economic analyses addressing SDHI. There were also capacity building and awareness raising activities carried out by DETERMINE partners, such us: skills development, partnership development, leadership, awareness raising and advocacy.

Opis:
Type 3 macular neovascularization is characterized by a complex of pathological vessels located in the sensory retina. Fundus oculi examination reveals intraretinal hemorrhages, macular edema, hard exudates and pigment epithelial detachments. Indocyanine and fluorescein angiography, OCT and angio-OCT are used for diagnosis and treatment monitoring. The treatment efficacy depends on the disease severity and the therapy applied.
Neowaskularyzacja plamkowa typu 3 charakteryzuje się kompleksem patologicznych naczyń zlokalizowanych w siatkówce sensorycznej. W badaniu dna oka objawia się jako wylewy śródsiatkówkowe, obrzęk w plamce, wysięki twarde i odwarstwienia nabłonka barwnikowego. Do diagnostyki i monitorowania terapii jest używana angiografia indocyjaninowa i fluoresceinowa oraz OCT i angio-OCT. Efekty leczenia są zależne od stadium zaawansowania choroby i zastosowanej terapii.

Artykuł dotyczy świadomości językowej i komunikacyjnej młodego pokolenia Polaków w zakresie językowej etykiety. Autorki analizują wyniki badania ankietowego przeprowadzonego wśród 100 studentów filologii polskiej. Okazuje się, że doceniają oni wagę grzeczności językowej. Razi ich zarówno jej brak, jak i nadmiar. Zwracają też uwagę na niewłaściwą leksykę w komunikacji językowej, czyli słownictwo nieadekwatne do sytuacji oraz wulgaryzmy i przekleństwa. Brak grzeczności zauważają w różnych sytuacjach – codziennych oraz oficjalnych (w mediach), nie tylko u rówieśników, ale i u osób starszych.
This article applies to language and communication awareness of the young generation of Poles in the field of linguistic label. The authors analyze the results of a survey conducted among 100 students of Polish philology. It turns out that they appreciate the importance of linguistic politeness. Irritates them both lack and excess of it. They also point out the wrong vocabulary in language communication, i.e. vocabulary inadequate to the situation and the vulgarisms and curses. Lack of politeness they notice in different situations – everyday and formal (in the media), not only in their peers, but also in the elderly.

Despite the improvement of diagnostic and therapeutic techniques age-related macular degeneration is still one of the main causes of central vision impairment. Throughout the years, the classification of subretinal neovascularization in the course of age-related macular degeneration has changed due to the advancement of diagnostic and therapeutic techniques. In 2020 an expert panel reached consensus on a new nomenclature for neovascularization in the course of age-related macular degeneration introducing the concept of macular neovascularization, which refers to each neovascularization in macula, regardless of the location.
Zwyrodnienie plamki związane z wiekiem (AMD, age-related macular degeneration), mimo postępu w diagnostyce i leczeniu tej choroby, stanowi jedną z najczęstszych przyczyn utraty widzenia centralnego. Na przestrzeni lat klasyfikacja neowaskularyzacji podsiatkówkowej w przebiegu AMD zmieniała się wraz z rozwojem technik diagnostycznych i terapeutycznych. W 2020 r. panel ekspertów opracował konsensus dotyczący nowego nazewnictwa neowaskularyzacji w przebiegu AMD, wprowadzając pojęcie neowaskularyzacji plamkowej, które dotyczy każdej neowaskularyzacji w plamce, niezależnie od jej lokalizacji.

Opis:
The theme of the article are lexical (vocabulary and phraseology) parameters for the sin of anger in Poznań urban dialect. Anger is a sin most (in comparison with other sins) represented at the lexical level of this dialect (159 units). The authors suggest linguistic picture of the manifestations of this sin in two different areas – physical (physical aggression) and psychological (verbal aggression). The analyzed vocabulary, most strongly marked expressively, mainly refers to the anger that is directed at the person (less for situations almost never on objects). This is consistent with the theological perspective on sin in terms of personalistic – as the guilt of the person over another person.

The urban dialect of Poznań has been consciously and purposefully used in journalistic and artistic texts, i.a. in the media (in particular in the press and radio) and on stage, for decades. The trend for yet another functionalisation of the regional lexis in the urban space, i.e. using it in various areas of life for persuasion, ludic and expressive purposes and for promotion of the city, has become clear in the recent years. The authors of this paper quote examples of regional lexis i.a. in proper names (of restaurants, shops, service points, education establishments, sports facilities, cultural events), in names of commercially available foods, in inscriptions on city promotional gadgets, in official texts of city institutions, etc. They also record manifestations of a spontaneous initiative taken by inhabitants of Poznań in the form of graffiti painted on walls. Such examples are evidence of vitality of the regional variant of the language in Poznań. Its use in the public domain reinforces the sense of local identity of inhabitants of Poznań.

Słowa, słowa... Czy je znasz? edited by Teresa Smółkowa (Kraków 2013), despite the fact that it has been recorded the male equivalents (eg. lack of forms jajcara, siecioholiczka, zasiłkowiczka, although there are jajcarz, siecioholik, zasiłkowicz). The authors proved the presence of such potential female names in the National Corpus of Polish and on the Internet using Google search. Of the 263 units unrecorded in the lexicon until 218 are present – with varying attendance – in the tested texts. This means that these female names are present in the social use. They do not limit themselves to the female equivalent of male names of professions. They also include semantic categories such as sports and hobbies, and names: representatives of certain attitudes and beliefs, women with specific characteristics of mental (including addicted women) and physical (including sick women), Internet users (including online offenders). These names are the result of suffixal derivation, mainly using the suffix -ka, eg. erasmuska < erasmus, netoholiczka < netoholik (but also such as: -ini/-yni, -ica/-yca, -anka and -ara), and the paradigmatic derivation, eg. dredziara < dredziarz, sprawna inaczej < sprawny inaczej. Functioning described in the article female names in the social circuit is proof that in the past ten years there has been a significant change in the Polish language in the pragmatic aspects of the nomination of women.

The article is devoted to the semantic evolution of the word patchwork, which has become frequent in contemporary Polish. This appropriate borrowing from English was registered in Polish lexicography for the first time in 1995. In the twenty years since then, it showed its new meanings different from the original ‘artistic handicraft technique, consisting in stitching together pieces of material of different colours and shapes’, ‘composition resulting from the use of this technique’ and ‘product formed in this manner, for example bedspread, tapestry, clothes’. Nowadays, this lexeme can refer to any term referring to a particular or abstract designatum which ‘creates a coherent whole, but consists of various elements’ and also – as a derivatives of phraseology the patchwork family – means ‘a family founded by parents, at least one of whom has had a previous unsuccessful relationship or marriage involving their common children, their children from previous relationships, and sometimes also former partners and their relatives’.

The article presents the regional names of persons from Poznań, considering their psychic features attributed to denotations. The repertoire of features reflected in personal names of the urban dialect of Poznań (differentiated here only from the point of view of psychic features) confirms the conclusion drawn from the analysis of quotations illustrating individual entries of Słownik gwary miejskiej Poznania (“Dictionary of the Urban Dialect of Poznań”) edited by Monika Gruchmanowa and Bogdan Walczak (and published in an earlier article), that the stereotype and autostereotype of a resident of Poznań finds no reflection in those features. The characteristics regarded as typical for poznańska pyra* (*a negative designation of Poznań residents) constitute a meaningful core for just few names (e.g. avarice in regional lexemes gryzinera // gryzinyra or nyrol), whereas more numerous are the designations connoting ordinary vices (such as: excessive agility, dishonesty, cheekiness, roguery and hooliganism, infantilism and plaintiveness, mental heaviness, stupidity, clumsiness, untidiness, talkativeness, gossipiness, querulousness, gloominess and taciturnity, wickedness, vulgarity, arrogance etc.), characteristic for people in general, regardless of their place of residence.

Authors of the article present conclusions resulting from the observation of 197 official company names referring to gyms and fitness clubs located in Podlaskie and Wielkopolskie voivodships. The different number of company names in these voivodships is proportional to the number of inhabitants in each voivodship. The comparison of both sets of proper names showed no differences, whether in the scope of structural models applied, or in terms of motivational mechanisms. Structurally, two- and three-element patterns are dominant, while the motivation behind selection of names is mainly related to the type of business activity and/or the persons of business owners. The manifestations of internationalization and transonymisation visible in proper names strengthen their persuasive function.

Opis:
Regional words tytka and tyta persist among the lexical separateness in several regions of Poland. The noun tytka is often used in the traditional meaning ‘the paper bag’, but also in the extended scope ‘the packaging of other material’. The stabilization of both lexemes in regional varieties of Polish is reinforced by well-known customs (Silesian tyta /tytka for first graders) as well as new social campaigns such as “Charity tytka”.

The purpose of the article was to determine the viability of German loanwords (prototypically associated with Poznań urban dialect) in the language of the inhabitants of the city in the XXI century. The questionnaire, which is the basis to gather research material, contained three commands – one closed and two open. It covered 120 respondents in three age groups. For general conclusion emerging from the results of a questionnaire study can be considered that germanisms are still alive in the lexis of Poznań dialect. Many of germanisms of Poznań dialect are still well-known by all generations, although knowledge of this vocabulary is often only passive. Very few of the respondents admit to use it. Residents of the city are aware of the regional marked of many lexemes, and their German etymology – isolated pointed up to 112 different germanisms of Poznań dialect.The attitude of Poznań residents to German loans in their language is rather positive. They note their recessive nature of the cross-generational, although they acknowledge (regardless of age) that there are still alot of them. They are also aware of when and with what communication intention they can be used

The paper is devoted to the lexical functioning in the advertisement language. The authors analyse 180 various participles as elements of 600 different collocations from the catalogue of “Avon” cosmetic company. They found them to be stimulants of consumptive activity, elements that played an essential role in persuasive information. The use of participles brings to mind some preferred traits that compose a stereotype of the modern person, such as: young age, vitality, and health, sensual attractiveness, originality, and professionalism. The participles varied with a view to their frequency and combination, and they defined cosmetics, their components, properties, and any kind of care.

Artykuł zawiera przykłady pobytu naszych rodaków wśród plemion indiańskich w Boliwii od końca XIX wieku (okres emigracji i wypraw badawczych polskich naukowców: Józefa Jackowskiego, Rudolfa Zubera, Władysława Klugera, Romana Kozłowskiego, Jana Kalinowskiego, Józefa Warszewicza). Prace misyjne w tym kraju Polacy rozpoczęli w drugiej połowie XX wieku. Jako pierwsi przybyli salezjanie i redemptoryści, a w latach siedemdziesiątych XX wieku – franciszkanie. Posługę misyjną pełnią również misjonarki z różnych zakonów i zgromadzeń (m.in. służebniczki dębickie, albertynki, sercanki). Artykuł prezentuje sylwetki wybitnych Polaków i Polek posługujących w Boliwii: o. Piotra Nawrota (werbista i muzykolog), bpa Krzysztofa Białasika (werbista, „polski pasterz boliwijskich górali”), o. Kazimierza Strzępka – „El Misionero”, o. Kacpra Nowakowskiego (franciszkanin OFM), o. Grzegorza Stachowiaka (zmartwychwstańcy), s. Miriam (sercanki). Ponadto autorka wspomina tych Polaków, którzy już odeszli, a na zawsze pozostali w sercach Boliwijczyków: o. Bernarda Czaję (werbista), ks. Tomasza Strudzika, ks. Mariusza Graszka. Prezentuje także obecnie mieszkających w Boliwii – Henryka Nowaka i Mileniusza Spanowicza, fotografa boliwijskiej przyrody.
The article provides examples of our compatriots staying among the Indian tribes in Bolivia since the end of the 19th century (which was the period of emigration and research expeditions of Polish scientists: Józef Jackowski, Rudolf Zuber, Władysław Kluger, Roman Kozłowski, Jan Kalinowski, Józef Warszewicz). The missionary work of Poles in Bolivia began in the second half of the 20th century. The first ones who arrived were the Salesians and Redemptorists. The Franciscans came in the 1970. Missionary activity has been also performed by the missionary sisters from various religious orders and assemblies (including the Dębickie Servant Sisters, the Albertine Sisters, the Sacred Heart Sisters). The article presents the silhouettes of prominent Polish women and men serving in Bolivia: Friar Piotr Nawrot (Divine Word Missionary and musicologist), Bishop Krzysztof Białasik (Divine Word Missionary, the “Polish shepherd of Bolivian mountaineers”), Friar Kazimierz Strzępek – called “El Misionero,” Friar Kacper Nowakowski (Franciscan, OFM Conv.), Grzegorz Stachowiak (CR), Sister Miriam (of the Sacred Heart Sisters). In addition, the author recalls these Poles who passed away, but are still present in the hearts of Bolivians: Fr Bernard Czaja (Divine Word Missionary), Fr. Tomasz Strudzik, and Fr. Mariusz Graszek. Henryk Nowak and Mileniusz Spanowicz (a photographer of Bolivian nature) who are currently living in Bolivia, are also presented in the article.
