WODROL history
Opis:
Hydrogeological Company for Agriculture was established in 1957 and later was transformed into United Companies for Rural Water Supply WODROL. At that time rural areas were supplied in water directly from dug wells, natural springs and surface waters. The aim of the company was to drill wells and to build waterworks so as to supply inhabitants of rural areas and farms in water of good quality. There were 17 branches of the company located in Poland, with hydrogeological survey in every of them. The task of hydrogeologists working there was identification of groundwater reservoirs, supervision over drilling wells, preparing reports. It is assessed that over 40 years of it's activity, the Company drilled around 25 000 wells with an average depth of 55 m. Thousands of waterworks were built, which affected greatly living conditions of rural population. This important activity was possible thanks to hydrogeologists, who played the main role in this action. Some of them devoted all their professional life to this important mission.

Opis:
The treatment of comminuted tibial shaft fractures in canine patients is burdened by significant risk which involves bone healing complications, such as delayed bone union. Complications may result from iatrogenic damage to blood vessels during fracture stabilization. To minimize this risk, treatment methods increasingly often rely on the concept of biological osteosynthesis. One of such methods involves the treatment of fractures with the use of new hybrid fixator consisted of an interlocking nail connected with type I external fixator. Connection of the nail with external fixator has been recently developed to maximize treatment efficiency. This manner of stabilization increases bone-fixator construct strength on forces acting in the place of fracture. It also enables fracture fixation with minimal damage of the blood supply of bone fragments. This article describes surgical procedure of stabilization of comminuted tibial bone fractures in four dogs by the use of interlocking nail connected with external fixator type I, discusses and evaluates the results of clinical treatment with the involvement of the said fixator. To control bone consolidation process the radiograms were taken in 6 and 8 week of healing. In all cases, the reviewed methods of clinical treatment were successful in producing bone union after eight week of healing. During the whole period of observations no complication was observed. In all cases the intramedullary nail were left in the medullary canal after the healing process was finished. The fixator supported quick restoration of limb function after treatment.

Opis:
This paper presents the results of a study of the treatment of transverse tibial shaft fractures in six sheep with the use of interlocking nails and type I extemal fixators. During surgery, tibial osteotomy was performed to induce an experimental fracture which was stabilized using a type I extemal fixator. Osteosynthesis was monitored for nine weeks by performing clinical tests, observing the degree of lameness and subjecting the patients to weekly radiological examinations. After nine weeks, the animals were euthanized, and samples of bone callus were sampled for histopathological analyses. Weight bearing on the fractured limb began on day 2 to 4 after treatment. Limb function was fully restored around five weeks after surgery. Radiograms taken during the observation period revealed gradual hyperplasia and progressing mineralization of bone callus at different stages of healing. The histopathological picture of the bone callus was characteristic of the phase of bone turnover and remodeling.

‘Śnieżyczki’ nature reserve (E Poland) is characterised by forest ecosystems only, represented by the Mazovian variety of the subcontinent lime−oak−hornbeam forest Tilio cordatae−Carpinetum betuli and stachys lime−oak−hornbeam forest Tilio cordatae−Carpinetum betuli stachyetosum – a rarity on the regional scale – which represents the wettest and the most fertile kind of lime−oak−hornbeam forests, and whose species composition and structure is similar to those of riparian forests. The vascular flora of the reserve includes 119 species. The rich locality of Galanthus nivalis, situated in the forest complex of Sokołów Podlaski Forest District – which is the most north−eastward point of its natural range – is a flora curiosity.

Opis:
Linnaea borealis, the twinflower, is considered a critically endangered species in the Południowopodlaska Lowland. The disappearance of the twinflower is mainly caused by habitat changes resulting from forest management, but also light deficiency due to the increase in canopy cover and growth of the shrub layer (processes of succession). The aim of the paper is to present the actual distribution and phytosociological characteristics of L. borealis in the northern part of the Południowopodlaska Lowland. In this region, only three out of ten known areas of occurrence (Werchliś, Serpelice, Grala-Dąbrowizna) have endured to the present day. The twinflower occurs in pine forest, Peucedano-Pinetum, and mixed forest, Querco roboris-Pinetum, communities. A decrease in the ground cover of twinflower populations was observed in all existing twinflower locations. Although the area covered by the Linnaea borealis population in Werchliś increased tenfold during the last 20 years (from about 200 m2 in 1993 to 1970 m2 in 2013), its cover-abundance according to the Braun-Blanquet scale decreased from 5 to 3. The increase in the area covered by the twinflower population together with the accompanying decrease in cover-abundance is probably not a manifestation of species dynamics but rather a response to disadvantageous environmental changes (growth of canopy cover and shrub layer). Progressive light reduction can initiate the process of fragmentation of a population. A decrease in the cover-abundance of the L. borealis population (from 4 to 2) was also observed in Serpelice. Its area was reduced to half of its original size due to anthropogenic destruction of this location. In the third region, Grala-Dąbrowizna, also the negative effects of competitive species (e.g. Vaccinium myrtillus, V. vitis-idaea) are considered.

Opis:
Endophytes produce a wide range of compounds with high application potential, mainly in medicine and agriculture. In this study, we test the hypothesis that endophytic bacteria produce indole-3-acetic acid (IAA), have positive influence on plant root development and are possible to application as plant-growth promoters. Endophytic bacteria were isolated from 3 native growing plant species: Chelidonium majus L., Elymus repens L., Solidago gigantea L. All endophytic strains produced IAA and the highest levels of IAA were observed for Pseudomonas azotoformans P3 strain. Triticale seed bacterization did not affect the seed germination, but had significant influence on root length and the longest roots were obtained after seed treatment with Pseudomonas sp. strains. Triticale roots were longer only in seedlings grown from seeds treated with endophytic strains producing high IAA levels (more than 22 µg ml–1). Our results suggest that endophytic Pseudomonas sp. strains isolated from Elymus repens L. can be used as plant-growth promoter.
