    Artykuł jest próbą opisania stanu współczesnej socjologii i jednego z wyzwań stojących przed naszą dyscypliną. Wyzwaniem tym jest pojawienie się data science: tj. podejścia, które w systematyczny, ilościowy sposób zajmuje się analizą gromadzonych cyfrowo nieustrukturyzowanych danych, dotyczących zachowań ludzi. Co ważne, analizy data science nie korzystają z dorobku socjologii ani w odniesieniu do tradycji teoretycznej, ani w odniesieniu do metod badawczych. Zastępują jednak socjologię (i inne nauki społeczne) poza światem akademickim. Tekst próbuje pokazać, czym data science różni się od innych, wcześniejszych wyzwań, przed którymi stała socjologia.
    The article is an attempt to describe the state of contemporary sociology and one of the challenges facing our discipline. This challenge is the emergence of data science: an approach that deals in a systematic, quantitative way with the analysis of digitally accumulated unstructured data on human behavior. Importantly, data science analyses do not draw on the achievements of sociology, neither in theories nor in the research methods. However, data science is replacing sociology (and other social sciences) outside the academic world. The paper tries to show how data science differs from other, earlier challenges for sociology.

    Opis:
    We propose new articulation of the differences between the natural sciences and the social sciences. Drawing on science and technology studies (STS) we reconstruct the organizational and cognitive mechanisms of a certain type of natural sciences, one which is referred as laboratory science or highconsensus, rapid discovery sciences. The key features of those sciences crucial for their cognitive and engineering success include: • experimental reproduction of the studied phenomena in the laboratory; • laboratory interventions and modifications of the phenomena thus evoked and broadly understood scientific ‘tinkering’; • attempts to transfer the artificial arrangements developed in laboratory to non-laboratory settings. The STS perspective not only helps us to explain the differences in status and effectiveness between the social sciences and the natural sciences. It also allows us to formulate certain general recommendations for the development of the social sciences. We attempt to show that sociologists are able to implement engineering projects in certain domains of social reality, projects involving the creation of closed sociotechnical systems-analogous to the ones which are generated by natural laboratory sciences. We refer to those systems as ‘social machines’ and the proposed research methodology is called ‘syntheticmethodology

    Actor-Network Theory has proven to be highly successful, fulfilling much of its early theoretical and methodological promise. Proponents of ANT have argued, among other things, that an acceptance of the specific (techno-)social ontology which assumes consistent relativity of beings and anti-essentialism will enable us to address the aporia that are haunting sociology. The authors argue that, sociological applications of ANT (at least as regards the dominant understanding of the theory) result in a lowbrow methodology leading to a radical cognitive limitation of the discipline. The text finishes with an attempt to sketch an alternative version of ANT, one with a positivistic inclination opening the path for synthetic sociology.

Przede wszystkim konfrontujemy tu rożne strategie korzystania przez socjologów z ustaleń filozoficznych i omawiamy ich przydatność naukową. Dodatkowo oferujemy własną, wewnętrzną krytykę ANT.
    In Polish sociology, there are many misunderstandings about actor-network theory (ANT). This is well illustrated by Michał Kaczmarczyk’s article entitled An Invasion of Tricksters. We respond to his criticism. Our ambitions, however, go beyond an exposition of Kaczmarczyk’s interpretative errors and other deficiencies of his argumentation. Primarily, we confront various strategies for the use of philosophical findings in social research and discuss their scientific utility. Also, we offer an alternative, internal criticism of ANT.

    In this article, we present the positional logic that is suitable for the formalization of reasoning about social phenomena. It is the effect of extending the Minimal Realisation (MR) logic with new expressions. These expressions allow, inter alia, to consider different points of view of social entities (humanistic coefficient). In the article, we perform a metalogical analysis of this logic. Finally, we present some simple examples of its application.
