    The article presents the current situation of some selected modernist heritage architectural objects in the city of Katowice, or rather their ruins. The author discusses their phantom-like status, describes some local artistic interventions to highlight their plight and points out their potential to create a sphere of aesthetic autonomy in the citizens’ daily life.
    Artykuł podejmuje zagadnienie specyficznego statusu obiektów modernistycznego dziedzictwa architektonicznego w rejonie współczesnych Katowic. Autor prezentuje, skoncentrowane na tych budynkach i zespołach architektonicznych, zabiegi podejmowane przez lokalnych artystów oraz podejmuje próbę analizy ich potencjału w zakresie wytworzenia strefy estetycznej autonomii w obszarze życia codziennego mieszkańców miasta.

    Opis:
    Urban creativity tends to be defined as a driving force of the ongoing changes in modern cities. While being a formally neutral term, the “creative,” in practice usually identifies all “good” sides of processes of urban transformations, especially those concerning the rise of spaces for sensual experiencing. The Creative City makes then a certain promise of aesthetic inclusion, enhanced participation, and autonomy for its citizens and visitors. However, the Creative City itself is neither an autonomous concept, nor the self-sufficient urban entity, but is entangled in economic, organizational, and social aspects of urban performance. All this makes us ask, is its promise trustworthy or rather empty?

    Graffiti and street art are related in many aspects. However, in spite of their common origins, and similar techniques and strategies, modern graffiti is usually presented as a genre lacking an artistic factor. The aim of this essay is to show that the separation between graffiti and street art is less warranted than it would appear.
    Ruch street artu wyewoluował w dużej mierze z graffiti. Jednakże, w przeciwieństwie do street artu, współczesne graffiti dość powszechnie uznawane jest za dyscyplinę o znikomym potencjale artystycznym. Celem niniejszego artykułu jest zaprezentowanie związków pomiędzy tymi dyscyplinami ze szczególnym naciskiem położonym na zaprezentowanie artystycznych wymiarów graffiti.

    The article investigates the relationship between human beings and technology, as depicted in modern Silesian street art iconography. The author presents the esoteric worldview of the famous Janowska group of painters, based on RoseCross anthroposophy, as well as the group’s connection with the contemporary Silesian street art scene represented by the artists Raspazjan and Mona Tusz. The matter of biotechnological interaction as the narration of modern Silesian street art is raised in the light of Rudolf Steiner’s anthroposophical reflection on technology and its resemblance to the modern neomaterialist standpoint. Finally, a selection of murals is analyzed, as the examples of an embodied, local, materialdiscursive practice, exploring the dualism of the biotechnological world.
    Artykuł poświęcony jest zagadnieniu ikonografii współczesnego śląskiego street artu w kontekście relacji człowiek – technologia. Autor, odwołując się do światopoglądu ezoterycznego ruchu Różo – Krzyża, wskazuje na jego wpływ na twórczość współczesnych śląskich artystów miejskich, Raspazjana oraz Mony Tusz, z uwzględnieniem pośrednictwa malarzy Grupy Janowskiej. Podniesiona zostaje kwestia relacji pomiędzy światem natury a technologii w kontekście antropozoficznych poglądów Rudolfa Steinera oraz współczesnej filozofii nowego materializmu. Autor poddaje analizie wybór murali, wskazując na ich funkcję jako rodzaju praktyk materialno – dyskursywnych, które nakierowane są na eksplorację dualizmów bio-technologicznego świata.

    The article covers the issue of somatic aspects of street art. The author discusses murals as a source of multi-sensual experience for citizens and also a medium of urban participation. Street art is being presented there as a sphere of dialogue between objectified and social sphere of urban life and private, embodied experience of citizens.
    Artykuł odnosi się do somatycznych aspektów street artu, w szczególności murali. Murale zaprezentowane zostają jak źródło polisensorycznego doświadczenia estetycznego mieszkańców oraz jako medium miejskiej partycypacji. Street rozumiany jest tutaj jako konstytuująca się oddolnie i organicznie przestrzeń dialogu pomiędzy zobiektywizowanymi zakresami społecznego życia w mieście a prywatną, ucieleśnioną sferą doświadczenia estetycznego mieszkańców.

    Opis:
    The Silesian conurbation consists of large amounts of terrains of uncertain status. Empty areas left after closed coal mines, ironworks, decommissioned working-class recreation zones or simply SLOAPS (Spaces Left Over After Planning) tend to be increasingly noticed by Silesian citizens nowadays and the experience of terrain vagues has become an important factor shaping their daily routine. The article covers the one, chosen distinct Silesian terrain vague location: the landscape park Żabie Doły (situated in municipalities of Bytom – Chorzow – Siemianowice Śląskie) in a quest to investigate the „unintentional landscape” as a place of different independent urban practices, undertaken by inhabitants. Terrain vague is being presented as an opportunity rather than a burden for a modern urban planning.
