    We consider the problem of parametric sound generation in an acoustic interferometer containing a fluid. We have taken explicitly into account both the influence of the nonlinearly generated second harmonic and the effect of the unavoidable rising of the temperature due to the acoustic wave. Two main new features under these considerations can be observed. On one hand, the fundamental field does not achieve a saturating value when subharmonics fields appear, but still grows with the driving. On the other hand, the subharmonics fields can exist only for a limited range of driving value, due to the dependence of the cavity resonances with the temperature of the medium. The experimental setup was designed and we show here the experimental measurements, which are in good agreement with the predicted values for the mode amplitudes and the parametric threshold.

    Sonic crystals are media with a periodic modulation of the acoustic parameters, as the density and the bulk modulus. They have recently attracted a great interest, because of their potential applications in the control of sound propagation, used as reflectors, focusers or waveguides. All these properties are related with the dispersion introduced by the crystal anisotropy. We report on the nondiffractive propagation of sound in two-dimensional sonic crystals. It is shown that, for given frequencies and directions of incidence, a narrow sonic beam can propagate without diffractive broadening. Such nondiffractive sonic beams exist in crystals with perfect symmetry, and do not require the presence of defects, differently from other waveguiding phenomena reported previously. The cancellation of diffraction has been predicted using the plane-wave expansion method to evaluate the dispersion surfaces of the crystal and the spatial dispersion (isofrequency) curves. It occurs for frequencies and wavevectors for which dispersion curves have zero curvature, denoting a transition between focusing and defocusing regimes. By means of perturbative techniques, a simple analytical expression for the nondiffractive conditions has been obtained. The phenomenon is also demonstrated by numerical integration of the acoustic equations using the FDTD technique with very good agreement with the preliminary experimental results.     The Oxfordian ammonite group Passendorferiinae (known as "Mediterranean perisphinctids") forms a group of perisphinctids characterized by strongly evolute serpenticone coiling and subcircular to subquadrate whorl section, and forms a lateral divergent branch of the main stem Perisphinctidae. They originated probably from Late Callovian Grossouvriinae (Alligaticeras) and spread mainly in the Mediterranean (Tethyan) Province along the southern margin of Tethys, occasionally reaching the outer areas of epicontinental platforms. Their particular morphological features make them somewhat homoeomorphic with Tethyan Kimmeridgian Nebrodites. The phyletic link might be represented by the genus Geyssantia Meléndez, known from the Late Oxfordian Planula Chronozone. Separate biogeographic distribution in relation to the Perisphinctinae might reflect a progressive differentiation of western Tethyan faunas at the Callovian-Oxfordian boundary and at the onset of the Middle Oxfordian Transversarium Chronozone. Their rapid evolution gives them a biostratigraphic value similar to that of the Perisphinctinae. At the turn of the Middle-Late Oxfordian they gave rise to early Ataxioceratinae (Orthosphinctes), which replaced the Perisphinctinae in epicontinental areas, and colonised the marginal epicontinental blocks of northern Tethys. The taxonomy of this group is based upon the recognition of sexual dimorphism, using a single generic and specific name for both (M) and (m), and hence rejecting the use of former subgeneric ames for both dimorphs. A new species within this line: Passendorferia nodicostata sp. nov. from the Plicatilis Biozone (Paturattensis Subbiozone) is defined and described for the first time.

    The main objective of this study was to analyse the development of dry anaerobic digestion process of OFMSW in batch reactors under two temperature ranges, thermophilic (55°C) and mesophilic (35°C). The experimental results lead to the conclusion that the thermophilic range has a greater rate of hydrolysis and is therefore more effective to degrade wastes, shortening the overall operating time. For example, the hydrolytic step in the thermophilic (T) process lasted an average of 8 days versus 14 days in the mesophilic (M) range. The methanogenic phase lasted for 18 and 29 days in the T and M processes, respectively. The mesophilic range showed higher removal of the organic effluent but with greater uptime requirements. Moreover, the thermophilic range showed greater productivities than the mesophilic range, and the productivities were approximately doubled in terms of the produced biogas from a given amount of consumed organic matter.

    This article aims to provide the seafarer with a tool to calculate the deviation for a righted ship in any geographical position using only the information available on board. In this way the accidental errors in the deviation card are reduced and the latitude error is made negligible. Moreover, an experimental application of this method is carried out on board a tanker to compare the latitude error in different positions at sea.

    In this work we numerically modelled a periodic magnetic flux pattern which qualitatively reproduces the so-called sand avalanches scenario in type-II superconductors. To model these sand-pile patterns we consider a perturbation on the critical current which, as a first approximation, follows a periodic function which depends on the position.
