Opis:: Badania strefy podmiejskiej w Polsce mają długą tradycję i prowadzone były w wielu ośrodkach naukowych. Równie poważny dorobek powstał w zakresie badań społecznych tej strefy. Studia te jednak są prawie wyłącznie prowadzone z pozycji mieszkańca miasta zasiedlającego strefę podmiejską, motywów jego migracji i postrzegania stosunków społecznych w nowym miejscu zamieszkania. W polskiej literaturze przedmiotu brak jest natomiast badań na temat postaw mieszkańców wsi podmiejskich wobec ludności napływającej z miasta centralnego. Tę lukę w literaturze przedmiotu starali się wypełnić autorzy niniejszego opracowania. Poddali bowiem badaniu pod tym kątem mieszkańców trzech gmin podmiejskich, położonych w strefie oddziaływań Krakowa.
Studies on suburban zone in Poland have a long tradition and being realized in several research centres. Significant achievements concerns also the field of social research of this zone. But social studies on this zone are almost all realized from the new resident’s point of view who has come from the city and settled in the suburban zone; his/her motives of migration and perception of social relations in the new place of residence. Therefore, in the Polish literature on the suburban zone, lack investigation on the attitudes of local residents of suburban villages towards those who have come from the central city. The authors’ study aims to stop a gap. The above attitudes have been examined among the residents of three suburban municipalities located in the Krakow zone of influence.

Opis:: Luminous flux reduction during operation affects the operating lifetimes of LED lamps. Due to the very long lifetimes of LED sources, i.e. tens of thousands of hours, the lifetime declared by the manufacturer is most often determined by forecasting the luminous flux reduction. Lifetime forecasting is performed based on measuring the operating luminous flux reduction within a time frame of at least 6000 hours, every 1000 hours, followed by extrapolating the obtained results with a relevant exponential curve. This article presents the results of measurements of luminous flux changes taking place between 0 and 10,000 operating hours of several LED light sources. The obtained results were analyzed, and the lifetimes of the examined lamps were evaluated.

Opis:: This paper discusses in detail the ethical issues in the contemporary professional sports and shows how these issues are addressed in the European Union countries and in the United States. From the ethical perspective it was decided that it is disputable to finance companies in competitive sports from a public purse (central and local government purse), to sponsor football clubs by bookmaking companies, to pay compensations (financial equivalents) for the change of membership in clubs by the players (the so called transfers). It was noticed that in the era of deepening sports commercialisation and application of ambush marketing strategies a real problem has become how to protect the interests of sport fans. It was decided that reaching of a certain scale of business operations (e.g. a certain threshold of revenues or profits) by monopolistic sports organisations should be paralleled by their loss of privileged status and/or change of their organisational and legal status (change from voluntary, non-profit organisations into companies operating under commercial law).

Opis:: The paper presents the results of the conducted tests of torsional stiffness of the VOSCO S106 passenger car, as well as the validation process of these tests by means of numerical analyzes using the FEM finite element method. The most important element of the vehicle structure is the part of the spatial frame or the safety cage. Engine, brake system, fuel system and steering system, suspension as well as body and parts, their mounting nodes, hinges, locks, etc. are attached to the frame. The frame must therefore have adequate strength to protect the driver in the event of a tipover or impact. The frame is usually made of steel pipes with the prescribed dimensions and strength according to regulations. The torsional stiffness of the vehicle chassis has a significant influence on its driveability and therefore is an important parameter to measure. In this article, the torsional stiffness of the vehicle frame is calculated experimentally, which was then verified by finite element analysis (FEM) using the Altair HyperWorks program.

Opis:: ObjectivesThe main aim of this work is to assess the level of knowledge about diabetes prevention and the consequences of untreated diabetes in the Polish society, as well as to indicate the variables that have a significant impact on that knowledge.Material and MethodsThe analysis is based on the results of the National Multicenter Health Survey – WOBASZ II. The number of subjects surveyed was 6170, including 2760 men and 3410 women, aged 20–74 years. Data on socio-demographic variables, lifestyle and subjective health assessment were collected using the face-to-face technique.ResultsThe results obtained in the WOBASZ II project showed that >85% of the respondents had an unsatisfactory level of knowledge about diabetes prevention methods and approximately to 85% of the respondents – about the consequences of untreated diabetes. Moreover, one-fourth of the respondents were unable to identify a single way of preventing diabetes, and more than one-third could not identify a single disease caused by diabetes. The risk of a lack of knowledge about diabetes prevention and the consequences of untreated diabetes is more common for men, people with a low level of education, not married, non-diabetic, and without diagnosed diabetes in the family.ConclusionsThe presented results indicate that there is an prevailing lack of knowledge about diabetes prevention and the consequences of untreated diabetes in the Polish society. It is associated with several variables like: sex, level of education, age, marital status, subjective health assessment and diabetes diagnosed in the respondent and/or in the respondent’s family.

Opis:: The players’ agent is a middleman who, on the strength of an agent contract and with pay, becomes obliged to act as a go-between in concluding contracts between players and clubs or transfer contracts between clubs. According to data of the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA), at the end of March 2011 there were 5794 licensed agents of football players in 219 national federations. According to the FIFA’s regulations, players, as well as clubs, have right to engage licensed agents in connection with negotiationg or renegotiationg of a player’s employment contract or a player’s transfer. Players and clubs are forbidden using services of unlicensed agents. The FIFA’s Regulations on Players’ Agents – and analogous regulations of the Polish Union of Football – burden the agent with many obligations. Moreover, definite obligations are imposed on clubs and players. Additional regulations introduce a code of players’ agents professional conduct. The player’s agent – as well as the player, the club and the union – can be imposed with sanctions for breaking the abovementioned rules. In milieus connected with Polish football there is a quite common opinion that, in spite of severe sanctions provided by regulations, obligations and rules of professional conduct are often broken in activities of players’ agents. However it is an opinion based on rumours and suppositions, which is not confirmed by decisions of the Department of Discipline of the Polish Union of Football concerning infliction of punishment.

Opis:: When power is exercised in the enterprise some ethical issues might occur with business ownership, personnel policy, working conditions etc. These issues and ways of addressing them were depicted and interpreted from the perspective of the Church’s social teachings included in papal encyclicals, viz.: Rerum novarum, Laborem exercens, Centesimus Annus. In the Church’s social teachings a number of principles were noticed that are favourable for the ethical corporate management including the principle of the primacy of work over capital, right to private ownership, right to establish professional associations, right to fair pay, right to fulfil religious obligations and having rest during holidays, a duty to support the weak and the needy (solidarity principle). The analysis of the social content of papal encyclicals showed two faces of power. On the one hand it is necessary and has positive effects (introduction of corporate governance, taking right decisions, prevention of theft and assets devastation etc.); on the other hand improper power exercise may lead to a number of undesirable effects (corruption, worker discrimination, thriftlessness etc.) The paper identifies also sources, forms and power exercising planes in the enterprise.

Opis:: A diagnostic and control system for a turbine is presented. The influence of the turbine controller on regulation processes in the power system is described. Measured quantities have been characterized and methods for detecting errors have been determined. The paper presents the application of fuzzy neural networks (fuzzy-NNs) for diagnosing sensor faults in the control systems of a steam turbine. The structure of the fuzzy-NN model and the model’s method of learning, based on measurement data, are presented. Fuzzy-NNs are used to detect faults procedures. The fuzzy-NN models are created and verified.
Przedstawiono system diagnostyki dla układu sterowania turbiny parowej. Opisano procesy regulacji w systemie elektroenergetycznym oraz strukturę układu regulacji turbiny kondensacyjnej w układzie bloku energetycznego. Mierzone wielkości zostały scharakteryzowane wraz z metodami wykrywania uszkodzeń dla poszczególnych wielkości. W pracy przedstawiono zastosowanie rozmytych sieci neuronowych do detekcji uszkodzeń torów pomiarowych Przedstawiono strukturę modelu rozmytego i metodę uczenia modelu na podstawie danych pomiarowych. Zaprezentowano przykład zastosowania modelu FNN i zweryfikowano jego działanie na podstawie rzeczywistych danych pomiarowych.

Opis:: Introduction: This study attempted to determine the effect of a 1800 MHz electromagnetic field (EMF) (only carrier frequency) on thyroxine (T₄), triiodothyronine (T₃) and corticosterone (CORT) concentrations in the blood plasma of chick embryos, and to investigate the effect of electromagnetic field (EMF) exposure during embryogenesis on the level of these hormones in birds that are ready for slaughter. Material and Methods: Throughout the incubation period, embryos from the experimental group were exposed to a 1800 MHz EMF with power density of 0.1 W/m², 10 times during 24 h for 4 min. Blood samples were collected to determine T₄, T₃ and CORT concentrations on the 12th (E12) and 18th (E18) day of incubation, from newly hatched chicks (D1) and from birds ready for slaughter (D42). Results: The experiment showed that T₄ and T₃ concentrations decreased markedly and CORT levels increased in the embryos and in the newly hatched chicks exposed to EMF during embryogenesis. However, no changes were found in the level of the analyzed hormones in the birds ready for slaughter. Differences in T₄ and T₃ plasma concentrations between the EMF-exposed group and the embryos incubated without additional EMF were the highest in the newly hatched chicks, which may be indicative of the cumulative effect of electromagnetic field on the hypothalamo-pituitary-thyroid axis (HPT). Discussion: The obtained results suggest that additional 1800 MHz radio frequency electromagnetic field inhibits function of HPT axis, however, it stimulates hypothalamo- pituitary-adrenal axis by inducing adrenal steroidogenic cells to synthesize corticosterone. Further investigations are needed to elucidate the mechanisms by which radio EMFs affect HPT and HPA axis function in the chicken embryos.

Opis:: W artykule dokonano analizy potencjalnych zagrożeń wynikających z emisji promieniowania nadfioletowego oraz przedstawiono kryteria oceny zagrożenia tym promieniowaniem. Scharakteryzowano źródła promieniowania – elektryczne promienniki oraz technologiczne źródła promieniowania UV. Następnie przedstawiono wyniki oceny ryzyka zawodowego dla przykładowych stanowisk pracy, na których występuje ekspozycja pracowników na promieniowanie UV.
In this article an analysis of the potential hazards, coming from the emission of the UV radiation, was performed and the criteria for the evaluation of the threat of said radiation were presented. Sources of the UV radiation were described – electric radiators as well as technological sources of the UV radiation. Following that the Author presents the results of the evaluation of occupational risk on selected work stations where the exposition of employees to the UV radiation is present.

Opis:: Praca biurowa polega przede wszystkim na wykonywaniu czynności związanych z obsługą komputera czy laptopa, w których bardzo istotną rolę odgrywa narząd wzroku. Pracownicy spędzają obecnie w pomieszczeniach biurowych 8 i więcej godzin dziennie. W związku z tym oświetlenie pomieszczeń, w których znajdują się komputery, powinno zapewnić wykonywanie typowych prac biurowych w sposób efektywny. Przy projektowaniu oświetlenia należy uwzględnić odpowiednią widoczność zadania wzrokowego, ale równie ważna jest dbałość o właściwe oświetlenie całego pomieszczenia. Dlatego nie tylko należy zapewnić prawidłowe (spełniające wymagania normy oświetleniowej) oświetlenie zadania wzrokowego, ale również zwrócić uwagę na otoczenie świetlne, które musi zagwarantować pracownikom wygodę widzenia, odpowiednią wydolność wzrokową oraz bezpieczeństwo. Oczywiście oba te aspekty powinny ze sobą współgrać, tak aby stworzyć zarówno stymulujące (pobudzające) warunki do pracy, jak i dobrą widoczność zadania wzrokowego. Jeżeli oświetlenie spełnia również aspekt energooszczędności, to można uznać, że w pomieszczeniu spełnione zostały podstawowe cele oświetleniowe.
