Opis:
The main hurdle for the estimation of the purity of 1,3,5-triamino-2,4,6-trinitrobenzene (TATB) is its insolubility in most of the known organic solvents. In the conventional method, TATB is digested with steam in a modified Kjeldahl digester and the ammonia evolved is estimated quantitatively. To do away with this cumbersome method, a simple, rapid HPLC technique using a reverse phase C-18 column has been established for quantitative determination of the purity of TATB. A sharp and symmetrical peak with a retention time of 2.92 min at 355 nm is obtained for pure TATB when the flow rate is 2.0 mL/min. The linearity of the detector response has been studied with sample concentrations ranging from 10 to 50 mg/L. The method addresses two important issues of sample preparation and the precision of measurement. Unlike the previously reported HPLC techniques which mainly aimed at the detection of TATB, the present work is a validated account of a quantitative estimation of purity. Regular production batch samples have been assayed by this method and the results are compared with those obtained from the conventional analysis. The HPLC method is convenient and reliable for quality control of the product at the plant level.

Opis:
The field experiment was conducted with four tillage and three nutrient management practices at Agronomy field unit, University of Agricultural Sciences, GKVK, Bangalore, Karnataka, India. The results of the study indicated that, higher groundnut pod yield (1307 and 1282 kg ha-1) and haulm yield (2733 and 2889 kg ha-1) was recorded with mechanical tillage + two intercultivations and integrated application of 50% organics and 50% inorganics, respectively as compared to rest of the treatments. Further, the same treatments noticed higher availability of N, P2O5 and K2O in soil after harvest of groundnut, but greater improvement in soil organic carbon content was observed with conventional tillage + one intercultivation (0.62%) as compared to rest of the tillage practices. The maximum net returns and benefit-cost ratio was recorded with mechanical tillage + two intercultivations (Rs. 11,287 ha-1 and 1.75, respectively) and integrated application of 50% organics + 50% inorganics (Rs. 10,462 ha-1 and 1.69, respectively). However, interaction effect of tillage and nutrient management practices were not influenced significantly on soil fertility and productivity of groundnut under rainfed farming system.

Opis:
Nanostructured CdO thin films were deposited by spray pyrolysis techniques at different spray deposition time on glass substrates. Nanostructured CdO thin films was prepared using 0.05 M of cadmium acetate dehydrate (CH3COO) 2Cd•2H2O) was dissolved in the deionised water. These thin films were annealing in air at temperatures 500 °C for 60 min. The thickness of the films, crystallite and grain size were observed to increase with the increase in spray deposition time. As prepared thin films were characterized using XRD, FE-SEM and EDAX. The XRD analysis shows that CdO films were cubic structured. The electrical and gas sensing properties of these films were investigated. Prepared nanostructure CdO thin films show LPG (S = 1600) and CO2 (S = 435) gas response at different operating temperature. Gas response, selectivity, response and recovery time of the sensor were measured and presented.

Opis:
The objective of this work is to study the influence of pyrolysis temperature on structural, surface morphology and gas sensing properties of the nanostructured SnO2 thin films prepared by spray pyrolysis technique. These films were characterized for the structural, morphological and elemental composition carried by means of X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy dispersive spectrophotometer (EDAX). The information of crystallite size, dislocation density and microstrain is obtained from the full width-at half- maximum (FWHM) of the diffraction peaks. Effect of sprayed deposition temperature on H2 gas sensing performance and electrical properties were studied using static gas sensing system. The sensor (Tpyr. = 350 °C) showed high gas response (S = 1200 at 350 °C) on exposure of 500 ppm of H2 and high selectivity against other gases The results are discussed and interpreted.

Opis:
Pesticide pollution is a serious problem being faced. Harmful levels of pesticides are found in the water which is used for daily purposes. In the event of such a scenario, this paper presents a working solution for bringing down the Pesticide levels in the water to safe levels by using the method of liquid-liquid extraction. The experimental liquid-liquid equilibrium data on pesticide-water-solvent ternary mixtures at a temperature of 288.15 K are presented here. The pesticide used here is a chlorinated hydrocarbon called lindane found in the water (underground, land), beverages and foods. The solvents used are Petro-ether-Chloroform (1:1), Ethylene di chloride and n-hexane. The equilibrium generation diagram, triangular diagram, tie lines and bimodal curves as well as the distribution coefficient have been determined and reported. The petro-ether-chloroform was found to be the right solvent for the separation of lindane from wastewater because of high selectivity (25.36) and distribution coefficient (4). The extraction process is simulated into ‘C’ language.
