Opis:
A beam structure under natural vibration in presence of crack undergoes a sharp change in its dynamic characteristics. In the present study the changes in two important modal vibration parameters like mode shapes and natural frequencies have been extensively studied for crack diagnosis in presence and absence of crack. Numerical and experimental investigations have been carried out using an aluminium Free-Free beam structure with and without crack. The crack presence is indicative of a decrease in local flexibility at crack location and a variation in mode shapes and natural frequencies are noticed. These variations in modal parameters have been used as the tools for crack diagnosis. In the present paper, efforts are made to analyse the presence of a crack using the application of fuzzy logic methodology. Here relative natural frequencies preferably first three are derived from experimental and theoretical investigations are utilised as input data to the fuzzy controller with Gaussian membership functions to obtain crack position and crack depth as output data. The resulted output data from fuzzy logic and the result from corresponding experimental and numerical analysis have been compared. The deviation of result of fuzzy logic from numerical and experimental results have been found to be within a limit of 3%.

Opis:
In the era of humanoid robotics, navigation and path planning of humanoids in complex environments have always remained as one of the most promising area of research. In this paper, a novel hybridized navigational controller is proposed using the logic of both classical technique and computational intelligence for path planning of humanoids. The proposed navigational controller is a hybridization of regression analysis with adaptive particle swarm optimization. The inputs given to the regression controller are in the forms of obstacle distances, and the output of the regression controller is interim turning angle. The output interim turning angle is again fed to the adaptive particle swarm optimization controller along with other inputs. The output of the adaptive particle swarm optimization controller termed as final turning angle acts as the directing factor for smooth navigation of humanoids in a complex environment. The proposed navigational controller is tested for single as well as multiple humanoids in both simulation and experimental environments. The results obtained from both the environments are compared against each other, and a good agreement between them is observed. Finally, the proposed hybridization technique is also tested against other existing navigational approaches for validation of better efficiency.

Opis:
An autonomous mobile robot is a robot which can move and act autonomously without the help of human assistance. Navigation problem of mobile robot in unknown environment is an interesting research area. This is a problem of deducing a path for the robot from its initial position to a given goal position without collision with the obstacles. Different methods such as fuzzy logic, neural networks etc. are used to find collision free path for mobile robot. This paper examines behavior of path planning of mobile robot using three activation functions of wavelet neural network i.e. Mexican Hat, Gaussian and Morlet wavelet functions by MATLAB. The simulation result shows that WNN has faster learning speed with respect to traditional artificial neural network.

Opis:
Fuzzy logic has been used in different research fields for more than three decades. It has become a robust method to solve complex and intricate problems which are otherwise difficult to solve by traditional methods. But it still requires some human experience and knowledge. In the present study, an attempt is made to design a hybrid optimization technique for automatic formation of the fuzzy knowledge based rules using an evolutionary algorithm. This hybridization technique has been applied in the field of damage detection and location of cracks in cracked structural elements. In this paper, a robust fault diagnostic tool based on a differential evolution algorithm and fuzzy logic has been proposed. Theoretical and Finite Element analyzes are done to model the crack and to find the effect of the presence of cracks on changes of vibrational characteristic (natural frequencies) of a fixed-fixed beam. The inputs to DEA-FL system are the first three relative natural frequencies, and the outputs from the system are the relative crack depth and relative crack location. For the validation of the results obtained from the proposed method and to check the robustness of the controller, experimental analysis is performed. To find average error rates, the bootstrap method has been adopted.

Opis:
Damage detection in structural elements like beams is one of important research areas for health monitoring. Initiation of a fault in the form of a crack or any damage puts a limitation on the service life of a structural member. So, in this paper, a method is proposed which uses the advantages of soft computing techniques like Fuzzy Inference Systems (Mamdani and Sugeno) and Adaptive Genetic Algorithm for three stage refinement of the data base generated using dynamic responses from a cracked fixed-free aluminum alloy beam element. For the crack element reference, a finite element model of a single transverse crack has been considered. The proposed method describes both Mamdani and Sugeno Fuzzy Inference Systems for training of damage parameters. In the Adaptive Genetic Algorithm, a statistics based method has been incorporated to limit the randomness of the search process. Finally, the results from the Mamdani-Adaptive Genetic-Sugeno model (MAS) are validated with the results from the experimental analysis.
