    Opis:
    Recent research in the process of aluminum alloy die castings production, which is nowadays deeply implemented into the rapidly growing automobile, shipping and aircraft industries, is aimed at increasing the useful qualitative properties of the die casting in order to obtain its high mechanical properties at acceptable economic cost. Problem of technological factors of high pressure die casting has been a subject of worldwide research (EU, US, Japan, etc.). The final performance properties of die castings are subjected to a large number of technological factors. The main technological factors of high pressure die casting are as follows: plunger pressing speed, specific (increase) pressure, mold temperature as well as alloy temperature. The contribution discusses the impact of the plunger pressing speed and specific (increase) pressure on the mechanical properties of the casting aluminum alloy.

    Opis:
    Aluminum alloys are one of the most popular casting materials. Their enormous popularity due to a wide set of desired material properties such as high strength properties, low thermal expansion coefficient, high thermal and electrical conductivity, very good casting properties, including castability. The most common group of cast aluminum alloys are silumins, where the main alloy addition is silicon. Al-Si alloys are mainly used in the transport industry and construction applications. Another area of applications using this group of materials is the electrical and power engineering industry, where the crucial meaning has the correlation of two types of properties: electrical and mechanical. This paper presents the influence of alloying elements on the electrical properties and mechanical properties of materials undergoing heat treatment. Heat treatment include solution heat treatment and next aging or overaging. Electrical properties represents the electrical conductivity tested by eddy current method. Mechanical properties are in turn represented by the results of measurements of Brinell hardness. Tests include three alloys belong to hypoeutectic silumins group with silicon content in the range of 4,5 to 7 wt%. Si.

    Opis:
    One of the basic elements of the technological chain of manufacturing products in the European Union is the metal processing sector, which is one of the dynamically developing industries. An important department in the aforementioned sector is the production of unconventional, large-size injection molds and tools weighing more than 10 tons. Very often large-size components in the production process must be precisely checked and subjected to appropriate corrective actions at the quality control stage, in order to avoid non-compliance with customer requirements, and thus increased costs related to reducing production efficiency, logistics of large-size elements from the customer back to the manufacturer of the mold in order to correct it, and also complaints of the final product connected with dimensional changes and surface defects in the casting process. This paper presents a case study of the implementation of the innovative quality control process to verify the production of large-size molds for aluminum high pressure casting with the spotting press machine, allowing for product quality improvement. The introduction of the innovative press for spotting molds to the quality control stage also leads to the improvement of production efficiency, which was confirmed by the results of an increase of the OEE coefficient in the entire production process. In addition, a significant reduction in the production time of products was achieved, and the cost of the mold production process was lowered.

    Scientific and technical profile of Izaak Rosenzweig is presented in the paper. He was an outstanding electrician, with stupendous scientific achievements in the fields of electric circuit theory, electrical measurements and geophysical measurements conducted by electric methods. His Ph.D. thesis published in 1939 in journal “Czasopismo Techniczne” is discussed.
    W artykule zaprezentowano sylwetkę naukowo-techniczną Izaaka Rosenzweiga, wybitnego elektrotechnika, posiadającego wielkie osiągnięcia naukowe w dziedzinach elektrotechniki teoretycznej, miernictwa elektrycznego i pomiarów geofizycznych metodami elektrycznymi. Omówiono jego pracę doktorską, opublikowaną w „Czasopiśmie Technicznym” z 1939 roku.

    Pathomorphological Changesin the Small Intestine and Liver of the European Beaver (Castor fiber L. 1758): a case study.The aim of thestudy was to examine and describe the morphology and patomorphology of small intestine and liver of European beaver (Castor fiber). In natural environment beavers are in constant contact with various both internal and external parasites. Histological analysis revealed the pathological changes within the digestive track and liver indicating long-term inflammation. It was hypothesized that the observed inflammation was caused by the parasites not related to beavers so far.
    Zmiany patomorfologiczne w jelicie cienkim i wątrobie bobra europejskiego (Castor fiber): studium przypadku. Celem pracy była ocena patomorfologiczna jelita cienkiego i wątroby bobra europejskiego (Castor fiber). W naturalnym środowisku bobry mają stały kontakt z pasożytami wewnętrznymi i zewnętrznymi. Ocena preparatów histologicznych wykazała zmiany patologiczne w obrębie układu pokarmowego i wątroby wskazując na przewlekły stan zapalny. Założono hipotezę, że przyczyną obserwowanych patologicznych zmian w tkanek jest zapalenie wywołane pasożytami jakich wcześniej nie stwierdzano u bobrów.

    Renesansowa myśl Francisa Bacona na temat łagodzenia cierpienia u pacjentów przyczyniła się do powstania pojęcia eutanazji i jego ewolucji na przestrzeni wieków wraz z podążającą za nią zmianą postaw moralnych i etycznych w medycynie ludzkiej i weterynaryjnej. W XXI wieku trwa spór na temat legalizacji eutanazji u ludzi terminalnie chorych. Z drugiej strony – poprawie ulega jakość i ilość środków nakładanych na opiekę paliatywną. Różne grupy społeczne próbują uzasadnić celowość eutanazji lub nie dopuścić do jej zalegalizowania (Gielen et al. 2009; Łużyński 2011). W świecie zwierząt eutanazję cechuje chęć zniwelowania cierpienia u osobników wyniszczonych bądź w skrajnych przypadkach zagrażających życiu ludzi i innych zwierząt. W obu sytuacjach motywy eutanazji mają uzasadnienie znajdujące się w polskim prawie w tym w Konstytucji RP.
    Francis Bacon’s renaissance idea of alleviating the suffering of patients contributed to the creation of the concept of euthanasia and its evolution over the ages with the following change of moral and ethical attitudes in human and veterinary medicine. In the 21’st century there is an ongoing controversy around the legalisation of euthanasia in people terminally ill. On the other hand the quality and quantity of measures imposed on palliative care are improving. Various social groups are trying to justify purposefulness of euthanasia or not to allow to its legalization (Gielen et al. 2009; Łużyński 2011). In world of animals euthanasia is characterized by the willingness of alleviating suffering in devastated animals or in extreme cases threatening the life of people and other animals. In both cases motives of euthanasia can be justified by Polish law including the Constitution of the Republic of Poland.
