Opis:
Forestry has a significant role to play in green economy transformation process of African Continent. It is important to provide strong rationale that will link the forest to economic development. This paper therefore provides useful information on the potential of forest resources for socio-economic improvement with emphasize on the status of African forest. The paper reviewed the role of forest in climate change mitigation and achievement of Sustainable Development Goals as well as the role of forest in attaining industrialization. It was revealed that Central Africa has highest forest area with North Africa having lowest forest area. However, in terms of planted forest North Africa has highest area while Central Africa has lowest area. More so through sustainable management of forest some SDGs can be achieved. Forest is found to be useful approach in climate change mitigation through carbon sequestration. The strategies that can be adopted to improve the status of African forest include sustainable management of forest resources, afforestation and improved agroforestry practices. The paper recommends policy strategy that will re-position forestry subsector in order to achieve its primary roles in the climate change mitigation, economy and promote agroforestry to increase forest cover.

Opis:
This study investigated the characterization of Ficus exasperata extract and the optimization of the process variables on inhibition of mild steel in seawater environment. Box Behnken Design was employed to examine the influence of three process variables: Temperature: 25-29 °C; Time: 3 – 6 days; Inhibitor concentration: 1-5 v/v. Phytochemical screening of the extract was done. The physicochemical constituents of the seawater were also determined. The experimental data was statistically determined and Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) was used to characterize the mild steel. The result of the phytochemical screening of the Ficus exasperata plant extract (FEPE) showed the presence of contain inhibitive constituents: alkaloids, tannins, saponins, flavonoids and glycosides. The highest inhibition efficiency of 86.31% at a temperature of 29 ℃ for 6days at an inhibition concentration of 3v/v was observed from the experimental run. The optimal process levels of time: 5.74 days, temperature: 27.95 ℃ and inhibitor concentration: 2.90v/v, gave 87.52% as its inhibition efficiency. The result of the SEM from the optimal process level validated showed that more passive film was formed which can be attributed to the adsorption of the Ficus exasperata extract. It can be concluded that the Ficus exasperata was a good eco-friendly inhibitor.

Opis:
This study investigated those factors which influenced the adoption of Moringa olefera as water purifier by the farmers in Kaduna state. Data were collected with the aid of structured questionnaire from 30 respondents. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and logit regression model. The results showed that the respondents had one form of education or the other. About 90 percent were married average household size of 10 persons per household. About 73 percent adopted Moringa oleifera water purification. Socio-economic factors influencing adoption of Moringa oleifera water purification were age, education, extension contact and membership of cooperative. The study therefore recommends that farmers should form themselves into association because such association will aid in collective soliciting for government assistance, NGOs and other funding agencies. Also, more awareness should be created by the extension agents on the importance of Moringa oleifera seed powder in rural development.
