The article presents the theoretical analysis and the results of numerical calculations of the Doppler effect it occurs in a system designed to determine the position and speed of a moving target. The transmitter is the source of the signal and it emits a sinusoidal, acoustic and continuous wave. Signal reflected off a moving target is received by four hydrophones. Based on the signals, four Doppler shifts are determined and inserted into a set of equations. The solution gives instantaneous target coordinates and the vector of target speed. Analytical formulas are given which describe the spectra of the Doppler shift of echo signals in a bistatic system, as well as numerically determined examples. Spectral lines are assigned to instantaneous target positions. This provides the basis for solving the above set of equations and the functioning of the system.

The article presents a method for solving major structural problems that occur in the receiver used in the multistatic Doppler system, aimed at determination of the trajectory and velocity of a moving target. In the system two transmitters emit acoustic continuous sinusoidal waves at different frequencies. The signals, scattered from a moving target are received by four hydrophones. Beside of the echoes, much larger signals coming directly from transmitters are recorded. It has been proved that in the presence of the direct high-amplitude signal, using currently available A/D converters, there is no possibility to detect the Doppler shift of small signals. The proposed approach is based on the homodyne frequency conversion of the received signals. Subsequently, the constant component and other unwanted products of the frequency conversion are filtered. The results of computer simulation have shown the effectiveness of the adopted design solution.

The paper discusses ways to organise visual representation in a multi-beam ahead looking sonars whose function is to detect objects on the bottom and in pelagic zones. Forms of visual representation are shown and illustrated on the basic screen (panoramic representation and setting, alarms) and on the auxiliary screen (type A, B and special). Special forms of visual representation are mainly used in detecting objects in difficult hydrological conditions and when classifying objects. Several types of visual representations are shown, including a historical data example, multiplied type A representation in multiple beams and two types of quasi-spatial displays.

The dome enclosing the antenna of dipping sonar should be of the smallest possible size. Presented in the paper is a concept of hydroacoustic antennas of active and passive sonar. The active antenna performs mechanical scanning while the passive antenna uses the orthogonal array of gradient hydrophones. In addition to that the antenna array includes ultrasonic transducers of a sound velocity profiler, a pressure sensor for measuring the depth of antenna submergence. With that many sources of signal in the sonar's ease, a multiple fibre cable is required or signal modulation to transmit the signals over a limited number of wires. The sonar in question uses distribution over time and an original modulation method for simultaneous transmission of several signals using a cable channel. Block diagram and formulas describing the entire signal from the sonar's antenna are included.

A decade old side scan sonars are now being modernised by way of dynamically controlling the width of the receiving beam in the horizontal cross-section. The result is a quasi-constant linear resolution of the sonar (replacing constant angular resolution), when it picks up echo signals as it moves further away from the targets. The advantage of the treatment is that the ship using the side scan sonar can increase its speed without risking the loss of near targets’ echo. The articles describes how the system of dynamic control was implemented. Special TVG systems were introduced to control dynamic signal gain from several separate sections of the sonar’s acoustic array, which was divided symmetrically into unequal sections. The location of these systems in the sonar’s receiver is presented. Examples are given of curves that control TVG and of the effects of dynamic horizontal stabilisation of the sonar’s linear resolution as it receives signals.

This article describes a new echosounder model designed specifically for institutions responsible for the management of inland waterways, artificial and natural reservoirs, and marine coastal waters. The basic requirement related to the need of sounding shallow waters is measuring the smallest possible depths. Using separate transducers (sending and receiving) and attenuating them, and introducing a high dynamic range TVG circuit allowed the measurement of depths from 20cm at a maximum range of 100m. Water temperature is measured in order to include sound velocity corrections. The echosounder is manufactured using modern technology, with a PC 104 computer, robust FLASH memory emulating a hard disk, 8 inch color LCD panel, thermal printer with paper band for instant profile printouts, and a floppy disk drive for permanent storage. The echosounder interfaces to GPS.

The main purpose of applying Time Variable Gain (TVG) in active sonars with digital signal processing is to reduce dynamic range of echo signal and adapt it to the dynamic range of the analogue to digital conversion. With high transmission losses level, the dynamic range of the input signal in long range sonars can be very high and even exceed 200 dB. When chirp sounding signals with matched filtration are used, sonars can reach very long ranges. The article presents optimisation of TVG control for long range sonars. It also looks at the influence of chirp sounding signal compression, the result of digital matched filtration, for the TVG controlling. The examples of obtained results are presented.

The paper presents a multi-beam digital sonar that was designed for monitoring and fish stock assessment in in/and waters. The sonar can also be used as a bottom profiler in lakes, rivers and shallow sea areas. The hexagonal piezoelectric transducer array co-operates with a commutator set. The 32 -channel digital beamformer creates 30 narrow receiving beams in every 60o sector of simultaneous observation. The six sectors cover the whole 360o angle range of the sonar. The beamformer digital signal processing is based on second order sampling of echo signals and the phase-shifting principle of beam deflection. The sonar block diagram, beamformer algorithms, as well as transducers designs are discussed.

The fast development of electronic technology and digital signal processing methods makes electronic devices, including sonar systems ones, obsolete very quickly. On the other hand the ships mechanical components including mechanical parts of sonars are operational for a few dozens of years. It makes good opportunity to modernize these devices by using modern electronic devices and new digital signal processing methods with application of existing antenna and mechanical systems. The paper presents the modernization of ASW sonar SQS-56 on the Polish frigate ORP “Kościusko”. The paper discusses the notion of a layer of sandy sediments overlying a substratum of cohesive deposits in the coastal zone. This layer of sand is generally more mobile and is therefore conventionally referred to as the dynamic layer. Its parameters are important to coastal lithodynamic and morphodynamic processes caused by waves and currents. On the other hand, the dynamic layer is formed by nearshore hydrodynamic impact. The variability of the features of the dynamic layer on the southern Baltic dune and cliff shores in Poland is analysed on the basis of selected geological data supported by local seismo-acoustic field investigations. It appears that the conventional notion of the dynamic layer makes sense only in specific geomorphologic conditions. In such cases, mostly related to cliff shores, theoretical modelling of sediment transport should take the properties of the dynamic layer into account.

The paper presents the results of analyses of relationships between variability of shoreline position, grain size distributions of sediments and the wave climate at the IBW PAN Coastal Research Station in Lubiatowo. The study reports the 2 year long field investigations, which have comprised registrations of shoreline evolution, grain size parameters of nearshore sea bed and wave motion in the nearshore zone. The analysis of the experimental data provides a realistic assessment of morphodynamic processes occurring and interacting in the investigated coastal region. In the study, the following sand characteristic parameters have been considered: the median diameter d50, the representative diameters d25 and d75, the sorting parameter S0 and the skewness parameter Sk. The values of these parameters are found to correlate with the features of the coastal forms, mainly the shoreline migration.

W artykule przedstawiono metodę i wyniki badań w zakresie kinematyki rusztu ruchomego schronowego zaworu przeciwwybuchowego. Badano rozwiązanie zaworu typu automatycznego o dużym wydatku. Badanie wykonano za pomocą szybkiej kamery wizyjnej. Uzyskane wyniki stanowią podstawę do określenia sposobu doskonalenia rozwiązania.
The method and experimental results about the kinematics of the move ring of the explosion-proof shelter valve is presented in this paper. The valve solution automatic type with high air delivery was searched. The experiment was executed by fast vision camera. The achievement results are the base to make any perfection manner of the valve solve.

A method for a sizing of an electromechanical battery for electrical go-kart was presented in the paper. The main goal of this research was to replace the internal combustion (IC) engine by an electric drive system taking into account the traction properties, on the one hand and the duration of operation on a single charge and the number of the battery life cycles on the other. The proposed method permits an entire depreciation of the price of the vehicle before the degradation of the battery occurs. The results of the study have been used to adjust the source for electric go-karts that will be mass produced.

The abandoned Klecza–Radomice gold mining area in the Kaczawskie Mountains is prospective for new occurrences of vein-type gold deposits. Research of sulphide ore samples from old mining wastes confirmed a rich gold abundance in this area. Chemical bulk-rock analyses proved a high content of gold (up to 60 ppm Au) and a common occurrence of microscopic gold (mainly electrum). The application of geophysical VLF surveys showed a number of linear anomalies indicating the possibility of the emergence of new ore veins between the areas of former mining exploitation. This area is very promising for gold prospecting and should be the subject of further geophysical research using the induced polarization method (IP), and verified by shallow prospecting drillings. Execution of this type of comprehensive exploration and research work would open a completely new stage of prospecting for primary gold deposits in the Sudetes.

The paper analyses the results of field investigations into the evolution of the shoreline and dune toe positions in a multi-bar, dissipative coastal zone. The correlations between the changes in the shoreline and the dune toe range from −0.4 to 0.8. It is most often the case that the dune toe is stable while the shoreline moves. Consistent cross-shore migration is slightly more likely to happen than the divergent or convergent movements of both lines. Shoreline retreat and advance attain respective rates of 0.7 m day−1 and 0.4 m day−1. Deep-water wave energy of about 50 kJ m−1 constitutes the boundary between shore accumulation and erosion.

The paper describes lithodynamic and morphodynamic processes occurring in the main part of the south-eastern Baltic coastal area, namely on the sea shores from the Vistula mouth in the Gulf of Gdansk to the Lithuanian-Latvian border. The study area is subject to intensive natural coastal changes, as well as shore evolution caused by anthropogenic impacts at several locations. Methods of coastal protection against erosion and shore stabilization systems applied in the past and currently are described. The paper deals with the causes of the dynamics of beach/dune shores and cliffs. It presents the authors’ field observations of 2010-2013, as well as previously gained knowledge and the results of Polish, Russian and joint Polish-Russian field surveys.

W artykule przedstawiono charakterystykę litologiczno-surowcową złoża wapieni dewońskich Szewce. Na podstawie przeprowadzonych badań terenowych scharakteryzowano zmienność wykształcenia wapieni w profilu złożowym. Dodatkowych informacji na temat zasięgu serii wapieni dewońskich w rejonie złoża, występujących stref uskokowych oraz zjawisk krasowych dostarczyły badania geofizyczne, w tym pomiary sejsmicznej tomografii refrakcyjnej (STR), tomografii elektrooporowej (ERT) oraz pomiary georadarem (GPR). Prezentowana charakterystyka surowcowa wapieni, obejmująca ocenę walorów dekoracyjnych skały i jej właściwości fizyczno-mechanicznych uzupełniona została o wyniki pomiarów bloczności w odsłoniętej ścianie kamieniołomu. W końcowej części artykułu zarysowano perspektywy eksploatacji złoża metodą podziemną.
The paper presents lithological and technological characteristics of Devonian limestone Szewce deposit. Based on field researches the variability of limestone in the deposit profile has been characterized. Additional information on the vertical extent of a series of Devonian limestone in the area of deposit, as well as occurring fault zones and karstified zones, has delivered the geophysical surveys, including seismic refraction tomography (STR), electrical resistivity tomography (ERT), as well as Grodnu penetrating radar methods (GPR). In term of technical characteristics, the decorative properties and physico-mechanical parameters of limestone as well as block diversibility measurement results in the quarry have been presented. In the final part of the article prospect for the underground extraction of deposit has been outlined.

Verification of the method of determining the machines standard series on the basis of real needs for capatities of machines and devices for preparing fodders in cattle keeping was presented. Farms from four provinces i.e. Lublin, Biała Podlaska, Zamość and Chełm were involved in the investigations. Two kinds of production i.e. milk cattle and fatstock as wall as three machines groups for preparing fodders were considered. The method elaborated secures obtaining the standard series of machines of any assignment.

The paper presents the results of studies on the long-term evolution of the multi-bar cross-shore profiles. The analysis is focused on time-dependent variability of shoreline position, a modified parameter A of the conventional Dean's equation and a parameter F describing the amount of nearshore sediment resources in the multi-bar cross-shore profile. The study also deals with interrelationships between these quantities. The analysis is carried out using field data collected at Lubiatowo, Poland, on the dissipative shore, representative for the south Baltic. The considered coastal segment is found to be stable in the long-term scale. The results of analysis show that the parameter A can either increase or decrease together with the shoreline advance. It is concluded that the shoreline position change is a parameter unsatisfactorily representative for behaviour of the seashore. The use of the Dean's approximation for estimation of the sediment resources F on the multi-bar seashore profiles is found reasonable to eliminate the effects of peculiarities of such shores.
