Opis:
The work focused on developing functional coatings on titanium substrates that would facilitate the integration with the cardiac tissue and with a specific form of connective tissue like blood. Surface modifications consisted in the laser evaporation of part of the biocompatible layer, thus creating a suitable environment for a particular tissue. For the myocardium integration, the metal surface was refined by biohemocompatible coatings. Such surfaces were the starting point for further modifications in the form of channels. The channeled surfaces enabled a controlled cell migration and proliferation. The interaction of endothelial cells with the material was highly dependent on the surface characteristics such as: topography, microstructure or mechanical properties. The controlled cellular response was achieved by modifying the surface to obtain a network of wells or channels of different dimensions via the laser interference lithography. This technique determined a high resolution shape, size and distribution patterns. As a result, it was possible to control cells in the scale corresponding to biological processes. The surface periodization ensured the optimal flow of oxygen and nutrients within the biomaterial, which was of a key importance for the cell adhesion and proliferation. The work attempted at producing the surface networks mimicking natural blood vessels. To stimulate the formation of new blood vessel the finishing resorbable synthetic coatings were applied on the surface to act as a drug carrier. Therefore, the initial trial to introduce factors stimulating the blood vessels growth was performed.

Opis:
Purpose: The aim of the work was to create an appropriate substrate for organ transplantation using bioactive tissue-based scaffold populated by cells of the graft recipient. The purpose of the modeling was to investigate the mechanical effects of wave loading of aortic and pulmonary tissue material. Methods: The biological properties of tissues of aortic and pulmonary valves were modified by the process of decellularization. The host cells were removed by various physical methods with focus on minimal degradation of the extracellular matrix. Thus, the decellularization process was controlled by histological methods. The tissue decellularization process was simulated by finite element modelling. Results: The mechanical results represented by a displacement at the center of the sample were coherent and the heterogeneity of the distribution of the caves on the surface of the samples was confirmed, both by experiment and in the simulation by the alternate occurrence of local minima and maxima. The latter results from the uneven removal of cells from the effect of the wave causing decellularization were also predicted by the numerical model. Laser radiation had a destructive effect on the components of the extracellular matrix (e.g., collagen and elastic fibers), mainly depending on the fluence and number of pulses in a single exposure. Conclusions: The differences between the valve tissue materials were shown, and the impact of the process of decellularization on the properties of the tissues was analyzed. It should be emphasized that due to low absorption and high scattering, laser radiation can deeply penetrate the tissue, which allows for effective decellularization process in the entire volume of irradiated tissue.

Opis:
A new acoustic navigation system was developed to determine the position and speed of moving underwater objects such as divers and underwater vehicles. The path of an object and its speed were determined by the Doppler shifts of acoustic signals emitted by a transmitter placed on the object and received by four hydrophones installed at the periphery of the monitored body of water. The position and speed measurements were affected by errors mainly caused by acoustic reflections (returns) from the water body boundaries and surface reverberations. This paper discusses the source of the disturbances with the results of a simulation test and experimental measurements. It was demonstrated that the magnitude of the errors could be acceptable in most of the potential applications of the acoustic navigation system.
