Opis:
Motivated by the properties of one-dimensional lattice systems with asymmetric on-site potential, one can formulate a hypothesis of an asymmetry driven phase transformation. Characteristic feature of one-dimensional systems exhibiting asymmetry driven phase transformation is a sequence of the two phase conversions. In particular class of such systems with a triple-well potential, phase conversions of one-dimensional systems would evolve into a sequence of two phase transitions in three-dimensional models. We propose here a model of three-dimensional system exhibiting a sequence of two first order asymmetry driven phase transitions.

Opis:
The most common measure of inequality used in scientific research is the Gini index. In 2007, Zenga proposed a new index of inequality that has all the appropriate properties of an measure of equality. In this paper, we compared the Gini and Zenga indexes, calculating these quantities for the few distributions frequently used for approximating distributions of income, that is, the lognormal, gamma, inverse Gauss, Weibull and Burr distributions. Within this limited examination, we have observed three main differences. First, the Zenga index increases more rapidly for low values of the variation and decreases more slowly when the variation approaches intermediate values from above. Second, the Zenga index seems to be better predicted by the variation. Third, although the Zenga index is always higher than the Gini one, the ordering of some pairs of cases may be inverted.

Opis:
We theoretically study possible domain-type collective dimerizations of graphite induced by inter-layer charge transfer excitations in the visible region. Using the semiempirical Brenner theory, we have calculated the adiabatic energy along the path that starts from original two distant graphite layers, but finally reaches the dimerized domain which consists of about 100 carbons with inter-layer σ-bonds. The energy barrier between this new domain and the starting graphite is shown to be of the order of 1 eV, being easily overcome by applying a few visible photons. We have also shown the optimal path of transformation via step by step increase of the domain size.

Opis:
A model of social network construction taking into account both social and individual influences on the distribution of links is proposed. The balance between social and individual factors is regulated through a "flexibility" parameter, reflecting how strong the initial individual sociability is altered by groups structure. The main interest is focused on the effect of groups on degree-degree correlation. Both numerical and analytical results on the relationship between assortativity and flexibility are presented.
