Opis:
In this paper, we examine reduced order hybrid function projective combination synchronization of three chaotic systems consisting of: (i) two third chaotic Josephson junctions as drives and one second order chaotic Josephson junction as response system; (ii) one third order chaotic Josephson junction as the drive and two second order chaotic Josephson junctions as the slaves using active backstepping technique. The analytic results confirm the realization of reduced order hybrid function projective combination synchronization using active backstepping technique. Numerical simulations are performed to validate the analytical results.

Opis:
This paper proposes a new synchronization scheme called compound-combination synchronization. The scheme is investigated using six chaotic Josephson junctions evolving from different initial conditions based on the drive-response configuration via the active backstepping technique. The technique is applied to achieve compound-combination synchronization of: (i) six identical third order resistive-capacitive-inductive-shunted Josepshon junctions (RCLSJJs) (with three as drive and three as response systems); (ii) three third order RCLSJJs (as drive systems) and three second order resistive-capacitive-shunted Josepshon junctions (RCSJJs (as response systems). In each case, sufficient conditions for global asymptotic stability for compound-combination synchronization to any desired scaling factors are achieved. Numerical simulations are employed to verify the feasibility and effectiveness of the compound-combination synchronization scheme. The result shows that this scheme could be used to vary the junction signal to any desired level and also give a better insight into synchronization in biological systems wherein different organs of different dynamical structures and orders are involved. The scheme could also provide high security in information transmission due to the complexity of its dynamical formulation.

Opis:
Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a group of metabolic diseases which typically presents with frequent urination, increased thirst and increased hunger. DM be classified into three main types: type I (insulin-dependent DM), type-II (non-insulin dependent DM) and type III (gestational DM). Diabetes is a group of diseases of global health significance as 382 million people worldwide had diabetes in the year 2013 and this was projected to increase to an estimated 415 million in 2015. Damage to the nerves of the body (diabetic neuropathy) is the most common complication of diabetes. The signs and symptoms of diabetic neuropathy include numbness, diminished sensation, pain etc. Various types of electrotherapy, such as transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS), pulsed-dose electrical stimulation, frequency-modulated electromagnetic neural stimulation, have been reported effective in managing diabetic neuropathy. This study is a systematic review of the evidence to enable the determination of the effectiveness of electrical stimulation and low-intensity laser therapy (LILT), and also aid their recommendation if proven to be effective. The outcome of this study was that TENS and other forms of electrical stimulation reviewed in this study may be effective and safe non-pharmacological treatment modalities in relieving the symptoms associated with diabetic neuropathy. The effectiveness of LILT couldn’t be determined due to the different parameters used to evaluate patients’ outcome and limited number of studies. Authors recommend that further randomized controlled trials with similar methodological parameters and studies with higher quality of evidences are needed to establish the true effectiveness of these modalities in diabetic neuropathy.

Opis:
This paper is centred on a binary classification problem in which it is desired to assign a new object with multivariate features to one of two distinct populations as based on historical sets of samples from two populations. A linear discriminant analysis framework has been proposed, called the minimised sum of deviations by proportion (MSDP) to model the binary classification problem. In the MSDP formulation, the sum of the proportion of exterior deviations is minimised subject to the group separation constraints, the normalisation constraint, the upper bound constraints on proportions of exterior deviations and the sign unrestriction vis-à-vis the non-negativity constraints. The two-phase method in linear programming is adopted as a solution technique to generate the discriminant function. The decision rule on group-membership prediction is constructed using the apparent error rate. The performance of the MSDP has been compared with some existing linear discriminant models using a previously published dataset on road casualties. The MSDP model was more promising and well suited for the imbalanced dataset on road casualties.
