Opis:: Stanisław Barańczak collection Journey in Winter (Podróż zimowa) published in 1994 was enthusiastically received by critics, resulting in a great number of related essays and reviews. The author of Supplements reconstructs the main reading strategies of the reviewers and takes a close look at the tools and context they employ. Finally, the reflections on the ways of interpreting the Poznan-born poet’s book provoke the author to consider the critical and poetic biases, the issue of music as a source of identity and a very nonobvious relation between Schubert’s vocal works and the rap aesthetics.

Opis:: Przedmiotem niniejszego artykułu jest próba odpowiedzi na pytanie, czy pandemia COVID-19 – wbrew negatywnym scenariuszom i jednoznacznie pesymistycznym opisom – może stać się narzędziem kulturotwórczej zmiany, której pozytywne skutki dają się zaobserwować w polu literatury. Jednoznacznie negatywny obraz katastrofy, jako zdarzenia niosącego jedynie destrukcyjne skutki, nie jest wszak jedynym możliwym oglądem. Uczeni zajmujący się disaster studies równie mocno podkreślają kreacyjny, twórczy wymiar katastrof, widząc w nich rodzaj energetycznego bodźca, który przynosi zjawiska o ambiwalentnym, niejednoznacznym charakterze. Właśnie ten rodzaj myślenia staram się zaadaptować do deskrypcji życia literackiego toczącego się w trakcie pandemii.
The aim of this article is an attempt to answer the question whether the COVID-19 pandemic – contrary to all the negative scenarios and unequivocally pessimistic descriptions – can become a tool for a culture-making change whose positive effects can be observed in the area of literature. After all, the unequivocally negative image of a disaster as an event having solely destructive consequences is not the only possible outlook. Scholars engaged in disaster studies equally strongly emphasize the creative dimension of disasters perceiving them as a kind of energetic stimuli that bring about ambivalent, ambiguous phenomena. It is this kind of thinking that I am trying to adapt to the description of the literary life during pandemic.

Opis:: The article “Prosaic Aspects of Life. (Extra)ordinary Histories” is an attempt at describing the experience of fatherhood found in the poems of the authors from “bruLion” and “postbruLion” groups. While analyzing the social transformations which took place in Poland in the 1990s (e.g. the modifications of the system of social roles stereotypically assigned to each of the sexes, the change of paradigms of what has been commonly recognized as “male” and “female”, “the crisis of fatherhood,” extensively described by sociologists, etc.) and the transformations within lyric poetry itself (domination of personal lyric poetry, autobiographism, rejection of political and social obligations of literature in favour of the interest in privacy and concentration on the individual experience), the author asks about the literary attractiveness of the motif and analyses its various manifestations in the works of Marcin Świetlicki, Jacek Podsiadło, Robert Adamczak, Sławomir Matusz and Dariusz Suska.
