Opis:
The paper presents a pilot active membrane contactor system (AMCS) description and experimental results for air dehumidification. Triethyleneglycol was used as a hygroscopic liquid carrier. Polydimethylsiloxane based membranes (Lestosil) were used in a spiral wound membrane contactor. The experiments with AMCS demonstrated effective air-drying under a high ratio-feed gas flux/liquid carrier flux (10²-10³). The developed contactor system allows to achieve air dehumidification up to Tdew point= –20 °C.

Opis:
Using of stochastic dynamics methods, the probability distribution function of molecules by their moving directions in arbitrary porous media, where free molecular flow takes place, was determined. It was shown that, in some cases, the molecules in the channel can generally move athwart the channel, while an average velocity of molecules moving along the channel can significantly decrease. The anisotropic phenomenon and the hysteresis of permeability through composite asymmetric membranes were qualitatively explained.

Opis:
The aim of the presented work was to investigate the stability of biocompatible magnetic fluid, i.e. water-based magnetic fluid containing magnetite nanoparticles stabilized by surfactant sodium oleate and modified by bovine serum albumin (BSA) after electron irradiation. Samples with the same concentration of $Fe_{3}O_{4}$ but different mass ratio BSA/$Fe_{3}O_{4}$ (w/w=0.25, 1.0 and 2.5) were studied. The electron irradiation caused about 10% reduction of the saturation magnetization in the samples with w/w BSA/$Fe_{3}O_{4}$ ratio of 0.25 and less than 5% in the samples with w/w BSA/$Fe_{3}O_{4}$ ratio of 1 and 2.5.

Opis:
The magnetic particles in the water-based magnetic fluids were sterically stabilized by natrium oleate to prevent their agglomeration and consequently the adsorption of poly-ethylene-glycol (PEG) was carried out to improve the biocompatibility of the magnetic particles. Two sets of samples were prepared. The first set of the samples was with different molar weight of PEG (Mw = 400, 1000, 10000 and 20000) at the constant weight ratio of PEG/$Fe_3O_4$ = 0.25 and the second one was with different weight ratio of PEG/$Fe_3O_4$ and constant molar weight of PEG (Mw = 1000). The samples were irradiated with 20 Gy. The same reduction of saturated magnetization (about 10%) after electron irradiation with 20 Gy was observed for all prepared samples.

Opis:
We have investigated the structure, and electric, optical, and magnetic properties of LaSr(Ca)MnO films containing atomic clusters of various types coherently built into the basic crystallographic matrix. Below the transition to the metallic state, the electrical conductivity of the films is determined by tunneling of charge carriers between metallic clusters. We have found that for each sample there exists a threshold value of magnetic ordering, above which the magnetic subsystem starts to affect actively the film conductivity. The observed increase of conductivity with decreasing temperature is caused by the fact that in the process of magnetic ordering of the samples the cluster size and concentration of metallic phase increase. Experimental results are in agreement with theoretical calculations.

Opis:
We have investigated thin films of lanthanum manganites epitaxially grown by pulsed laser deposition on single-crystalline substrates. X-ray diffraction studies show that the characteristic feature of the investigated films is a superposition of fractions with long range atomic order in the basic single-crystalline matrix, and mesoscopic order in the clusterized structure encompassing the Mn-O layers. A detailed analysis of diffusive scattering shows that the size of metallic clusters and their volume concentration in the dielectric matrix varies. In the case of a small size and concentration, the metallic clusters in low temperature behave as quantum dots and their presence leads to a tunneling mechanism of conductivity with characteristic R(T)= const. In the case of large cluster size, the discrete energy levels become smeared. It appears also that the optical, transport, and magnetic properties of the investigated films depend critically on the distribution of Mn$\text{}^{2+}$, Mn$\text{}^{3+}$, and Mn$\text{}^{4+}$ ions in the clusters.

Opis:
Dynamics of a resistive hotspot formation by near-infrared-wavelength single photons in nanowire-type superconducting NbN stripes was investigated. Numerical simulations of ultrafast thermalization of photon-excited nonequilibrium quasiparticles, their multiplication and out-diffusion from a site of the photon absorption demonstrate that 1.55 μm wavelength photons create in an ultrathin, two-dimensional superconducting film a resistive hotspot with the diameter which depends on the photon energy, and the nanowire temperature and biasing conditions. Our hotspot model indicates that under the subcritical current bias of the 2D stripe, the electric field penetrates the superconductor at the hotspot boundary, leading to suppression of the stripe superconducting properties and accelerated development of a voltage transient across the stripe.
