Opis:
The goal of this paper is to show how Édouard Glissant’s understanding of Antillean culture and literature evolve from the project of antillanité to the idea of creolization. The former (put forward in Le discours antillais published in 1981), bears the mark of an “insular” perception of the West Indies, but it simultaneously gives birth to some concepts stressing a relational character of the Antillean social and cultural reality. In a more detailed and elaborated form, this “archipelagic” perspective will be in the very center of Glissant’s aesthetic program presented in Poétique de la relation (1990) and Traité du Tout‑monde (1997), which extend the range of analyzed issues in order to encompass the globalization phenomenon. Key words: creolization, postcolonial literature, Caribbean literature, Édouard Glissant, antillanité, cultural transfers, literature and globalization

Opis:
Beyond the resistance – French West Indian’s literature facing the colonial past and globalization Our aim in this paper is to analyze the different stances taken by four eminent authors from the French Antilles – Aimé Césaire, René Ménil, Édouard Glissant and Patrick Chamoiseau – with regards to the socio-cultural situation of the region. Their literary projects work out the term “resistance” by means of different concepts and artistic gestures. The anti-colonial revolt of Césaire is challenged by Glissant's archipelagic thinking and Chamoiseau's metaphorical figure of the “warrior of the imaginary”, and there is still the “cannibal poetry” of Ménil. Taking into account the variation of ideological context accompanying the emergence of these concepts, we will see how the idea of resistance inspires the reflection on the writing and the role of the literature in the ever changing Antillean society.

Opis:
The following interview aims at examining the role of an independent Parisian publishing house on the French book market. Economic and institutional circumstances surrounding smaller French publishing houses are illustrated by the example of Caractères publishing house, which specializes in poetry. At the same time, the interview raises the issue of francophone writing in the publishing strategy of Caractères in the light of a debate on the diversity of francophone literatures and littérature‐ monde concept.

Opis:
Focusing on the major intellectual debates surrounding the Black and African Renaissance, the interview with Sarah Frioux-Salgas, head of archives and collections’ resources at the Musée du quai Branly-Jacques Chirac media library, covers topics such as the role of Black writers’ and artists’ congresses and art festivals in the cultural reaffirmation of Black people during the decolonization era of the 1950s-60s, the place of literature in the shaping of Black pan-African and transcontinental solidarity, the figure of the Black intellectual, particularly that of Léopold Sédar Senghor, and the networks of ideological affinities and antagonisms formed by Black writers, artists and activists. The interview aims to highlight the complexity of the socio-political and aesthetic issues at stake, all too often summed up in simplified definitions of projects such as negritude or Pan-Africanism.

Opis:
In our paper we show how Black writers (those of Africa and those of the Black diaspora in Europe and America) have contributed to the intellectual work centered on the idea of Africanity. We explain to what extent literature, as one of the domains of culture, reflects different visions of Africa, as formulated in the discourse of the World Congresses of Black Writers and Artists (Paris, 1956 and Rome, 1959). With reference to the official texts presented or elaborated during these events, we expose in which way literature is involved in the decolonial remapping of the geocultural place of Africa and in the remodeling of the postcolonial literary geography while pointing out the precursory or heralding character of certain postulates whose echoes will be heard during the festivals of negro and pan-African art of the 1960s and whose relevance is also confirmed nowadays.

Opis:
The aim of this article is to present the results of research carried out within the European perspective on Literature, Culture, Language and Certification (EpoLCLC) project, according to three main axes: contemporary reading practices and the image of French literature among contemporary readers in a sociological approach; reading strategies of foreign language texts in a psycholinguistic approach; the place of translations and the representation of the role of the literary translator among contemporary readers in the light of conceptions related to cultural transfers and the global circulation of literature. The analysis and interpretation of the data collected during the course of the project will make it possible to compare the image we have of literature and the reader in our time with a set of real practices and beliefs, as defined by the people questioned during the study. More generally, it will be a question of drawing up, again from the data collected, a portrait of the European student as a reader and of defining the place that French and Francophone literature occupies in his or her daily practices.
