This study investigates the perception of journalists in Nigeria on news commercialization and media credibility with special reference to Journalists in Jalingo Metropolis. The quantitative survey design was used. The population comprised of Journalists in Jalingo Metropolis which are about 293. The researchers employed Taro Yame’s formula to sample size out 75 Journalists which formed the sample frame. Questionnaire was used as the instrument for data collection. The questionnaires were administered among 75 Journalists in Jalingo Metropolis registered under NUJ who were purposively selected on the basis of on-the-job experience. All the questionnaires distributed were duly filled and retrieved by the researchers. Data gathered were presented using tables while frequency counts and simple percentages were used for analysis and interpretation. Findings revealed News commercialization affects objectivity and balance in reporting. The study further revealed that poor remuneration, personal greed and corruption are some of the reasons why news commercialization strives. Some of the recommendations proffered for reversing this trend are: Media professional bodies should be serious in maintaining ethics in the media industry by sanctioning defaulting journalists to ensure that journalism practitioners adhere to laid down codes of practice, sound education and professional training of journalists should be provided this will serve as a good antidote for solving the problem of news commercialization.

This study examined the career considerations in journalism among female mass communication students of Taraba State University. The study adopted the survey research method with questionnaire as the instrument. 125 questionnaires were distributed and 100 were dully filled and retrieved. Data were coded and analyzed with SPSS version 22 and presented in pie charts for clearer understanding. The study is anchored on social cognitive theory. The findings of the study revealed that female mass communication students of Taraba State University have the wish of practicing journalism upon graduation and prefer advertising and news casting against reporting and other forms of journalism. Findings also revealed that gender discrimination is the major factor that dissuades female students from taking up journalism as a career upon graduation. In reversing this trend, the study recommends among other things that institutions of learning should imbibe on female journalism students the need to take up journalism as a career upon graduation. Families, religions, cultures and the society at large should also desist from the discriminating female journalist.

This study is carried out to ascertain the perception and attitude of married women aged 18-45 on the practice of family planning. The study adopted the survey research method with questionnaire as the instrument. The research deployed multi stage technique to select 5 wards out of the 12 wards in Ardo Kola namely Ardo Kola, Jauro-Yinu, Jiru, Lamido-Borno, Mallum and then sets of questionnaire were distributed to 400 respondents that were randomly selected from the 5 wards. Data collected were analyzed using simple percentage, frequency distribution and Microsoft excel chart analysis. The study reveals among other things that married women in Ardo Kola Local government are aware of family planning/method but do not practice family planning because their husbands are not favorably disposed to the practice. The study recommends that Husbands in Ardo Kola should be enlightened properly by health care providers on the benefits derivable from family planning, and the attendant socio-economic and health problems where the practice is ignored.
