Opis:
Purpose: This paper aims to decide the Sm-Co alloy’s maximum energy product prediction task based on the boosting strategy of the ensemble of machine learning methods. Design/methodology/approach: This paper examines an ensemble-based approach to solving Sm-Co alloy’s maximum energy product prediction task. Because classical machine learning methods sometimes do not supply acceptable precision when solving the regression problem, the authors investigated the boosting ML model, namely Gradient Boosting. Building a boosting model based on several weak submodels, each of which considers the errors of the prior ones, provides substantial growth in the accuracy of the problem-solving. The obtained result is confirmed using an actual data set collected by the authors. Findings: This work demonstrates the high efficiency of applying the ensemble strategy of machine learning to the applied problem of materials science. The experiments determined the highest accuracy of solving the forecast task for the maximum energy product of Sm-Co alloy formed on the boosting model of machine learning in comparison with classical methods of machine learning. Research limitations/implications: The boosting strategy of machine learning, in comparison with single algorithms of machine learning, requires much more computational and time resources to implement the learning process of the model. Practical implications: This work demonstrated the possibility of effectively solving Sm-Co alloy’s maximum energy product prediction task using machine learning. The studied boosting model of machine learning for solving the problem provides high accuracy of prediction, which reveals several advantages of their use in solving issues applied to computational material science. Furthermore, using the Orange modelling environment provides a simple and intuitive interface for using the researched methods. The proposed approach to the forecast significantly reduces the time and resource costs associated with studying expensive rare earth metals (REM)-based ferromagnetic materials. value: The authors have collected and formed a set of data on predicting the maximum energy product of the Sm-Co alloy. We used machine learning tools to solve the task. As a result, the most increased forecasting precision based on the boosting model is demonstrated compared to classical machine learning methods.

Purpose: To carry out the transition from a cylindrical gear in which the centroids are congruent ellipses with centres of rotation in the foci, to a bevel gear on the basic of congruent spherical ellipses. Design/methodology/approach: Congruent ellipses with centres of rotation in the foci serve as centroids for the design of cylindrical gears with non-circular wheels. The article analytically shows that the analogues of ellipses on the plane - congruent spherical ellipses are the basis for the construction of the axoids of the corresponding bevel gears. An analogue of the centre-to-centre distance for ellipses in the plane is the angle between the axes of rotation of conical axoids. Findings: Based on the equality of the arcs of ellipses, the dependence of the angle of rotation of one axoid on the angle of rotation of another is found. Graphs of this dependence for separate cases are given. It is shown under what conditions the axes of axoids intersect at right angle. The parametric equations of spherical ellipses and corresponding axoids are given. They were used to construct spherical ellipses and corresponding conical axoids for different cases. For gears with right angle between the axes, separate positions of the axoids with different angles of their rotation around their axes are constructed. Practical implications: Spherical ellipses are directing curves for the construction of the corresponding conical axoids. Originality/value: The paper shows that congruent spherical ellipses act as centroids for the design of axoids of bevel gears. They roll one by one without sliding, rotating around axes that intersect in the centre of the sphere. To design such gears, it is important to know the interdependence between the geometric parameters, especially for common gears with a right angle between the axes.

This study aimed to identify bacterial pathogens in milk samples from dairy cows with subclinical and clinical mastitis as well as to assess the concentrations of oxidant-antioxidant parameters [malondialdehyde (MDA), reduced glutathione (GSH), and total GSH levels] in both blood and milk samples. From a total of 200 dairy cows in 8 farms, 800 quarter milk samples obtained from each udder were tested in the laboratory for the presence of udder pathogens. Cultivated bacteria causing intramammary infection from milk samples were identified by Matrix-Assisted Laser Desorption/Ionization-Time of Flight (MALDI-TOF). In addition, from tested animals 60 cows were selected includıng 20 healthy cows that were CMT negative, 20 cows with subclinical mastitis (SM), and 20 cows with clinical mastitis (CM) for detection of MDA, GSH, and total GSH levels in blood and milk samples. Three hundred and eighty (47.5%; 380/800), 300 (37.5%; 300/800), and 120 (15%; 120/800) of milk samples, respectively were CMT positive or SM and CM, and those positives were cows from different farms. We observed that 87.4% (332/380), 25.3% (76/300), and 34.2% (41/120) of cows with CMT positive, CMT negative, and CM had bacterial growth. The most predominantly identified bacteria were Staphylococcus chromogenes (18.7%) obtained mainly from SM and Staphylococcus aureus (16.7%) as the most frequent cause of CM. According to our results, dairy cows with CM had the highest MDA levels, the lowest GSH, and total GSH levels in both blood and milk samples however, high MDA levels and low GSH levels in milk samples with SM were observed. Based on our results, lipid oxidant MDA and antioxidant GSH could be excellent biomarkers of cow’s milk for developing inflammation of the mammary gland. In addition, there was no link between nutrition and MDA and GSH levels.

Brucellosis is a worldwide zoonosis, that can still be classified as endemic despite its ancient origins which causes economic losses and public health problems. Although effectively controlled by vaccination in animals, there is currently no vaccine for use in humans. Outer Membrane Proteins (OMP) that play an active immunogenic and protective role in the Brucellae family. OMP19 is present in all Brucella species as a surface antigen and is a potent immunogen responsible for Brucellosis intracellular infection. For this reason, the study was aimed to be used safely as a potential recombinant vaccine candidate against all Brucella infections, especially in humans and pregnant animals. This study evaluated a Brucella lipoprotein antigen, i.e. 19 kilodalton (kDa) outer membrane protein (OMP19), which was amplified and cloned into the pETSUMO vector system. The immunogenic power of the purified recombinant OMP19 antigen against brucellosis was compared with that of OMP19 (Raybiotech Inc, USA) in a mouse model and the obtained rOMP19 antigen was found to be similar to the commercially available recombinant protein.

Opis:
Detailed phylogenetic relationships and molecular dating are still quite rare for the complex and diverse genus Salix L. Here we focus on the taxonomic status and phylogeny of twenty-six Salix taxa naturally found in Turkey using the chloroplast DNA regions (trn T-F, matK, and rbcL) to unravel the relationship among them. The status of Salix species was also checked in the phylogenetic tree constructed with the data from Internal Transcribed Spacer (ITS) region of nuclear gene, including 158 accessions from the GenBank and 126 newly generated sequences of 26 Salix taxa (24 species) naturally found in Turkey. The phylogenetic analysis of the sequence data from both the chloroplast (cpDNA) and nuclear (nrDNA) DNA regions enabled a reliable classification of the genus at the subgeneric level (Salix and Vetrix) with high posterior probability/ bootstrap values as 1/100. The study provides important information on the Salix phylogenetic placements and diverging times of S. pentandroides, S.apoda, S. armenorossica, S. pseudomedemii, S. pedicellata subsp. pedicellata, S. pseudodepressa, S. amplexicaulis, two subspecies of S.triandra, and two endemic species of Turkey (S. purpurea subsp. leucodermis and S. rizeensis) for the first time. Taxonomically, S. amplexicaulis and S. rizeensis previously classified under the subgenus Vetrix were clustered phylogenetically under the subgenus Salix. Subgenera Salix species appears to be diverged from the subg. Vetrix in Eocene (ca. 45.1 Mya) while the estimated divergence times of subg. Salix and subg. Vetrix dated back to 23.1 and 21.65 Mya, respectively. However, divergence times among species within Salix and Vetrix subgenera of Turkey seem to be around the Pliocene period. Molecular phylogenetic relationship between Salix species native to Turkey and Salix species from the world were mainly associated with taxonomic hierarchy, rather than geographic proximity.

Opis:
Trees are significant components of ecosystems built by several widespread species. For instance, Papua forest is known to comprise abiotic and biotic elements. Also, certain plants have grown in popu- larity to a point where they are discovered almost everywhere. The purpose of this study, therefore, was to investigate tree diversity, distribution, and the importance of conservation. Data were collected in four locations using a total of 24 sample plots spread across Idoor, Karst, Persemaian, and Torembi, where seven, four, seven, and five plots were allocated, respectively. These forests formed a mixed natural plantation comprising 76 species from 35 families. Furthermore, Idoor and Karst generated the highest species diver- sity and varied significantly compared to Persemaian, while Torembi showed similarities with the other three locations. This condition formed three ecosystem communities across Persemaian, Karst, Idoor, and Torembi. Also, the composition of the dominant species showed variations at the seedling and sapling levels believed to structure the understory, while the pole and tree levels characterized the overstory. The total species status was described as critically endangered (CR) of two species, vulnerable (VU) of six species, least con- cern (LC) of 28 species, and data deficient (DD) species. Therefore, location management is advised to not only pay significant attention in terms of economic benefits but also ecological, including the provisions for ex-situ and in-situ conservation to support sustainable forest management.

Purpose: The aim of the work is to build physically sound engineering and design schemes that take into account the behaviour of polycrystalline metal systems under intense loads and allow optimization of surface treatment technologies to increase the operational reliability parameters of products. Design/methodology/approach: Using the approaches of thermodynamics, a methodological scheme is proposed, on the basis of which it is possible to optimize surface engineering technologies to increase the contact durability of details. Findings: It was found that the maximum increase in the durability of steel 40X13 (AISI 420) is achieved with thermocyclic ion nitriding in a cycle of ± 50°C, and the minimum with isothermal nitriding. Research limitations/implications: In this paper, the optimization of technological solutions to increase the contact durability of structural elements operating under prevailing power loads is given. Practical implications: Using the proposed mathematical relationships, optimal technological regimes of ion-plasma nitriding were established for various operating conditions, under which the maximum durability and wear resistance of 40X13 (AISI 420) steel are ensured. Originality/value: The paper proposes an approach to the formation of functionally gradient surface layers of steel with specified operational parameters when choosing optimal nitriding technology modes based on nonlocal mathematical models.

Since plant responses to selenium nanoparticles (nSe) had not been clarified, this study was carried out to evaluate the effects of nSe (10 and 100 μM) on photosynthesis performance, ion homeostasis, antioxidant system, and phenylpropanoids in strawberry exposed to salt stress. Inductively Coupled Plasma-Mass Spectroscopy analyses indicated that foliar-applied nSe can be taken up by leaves and trans-located to roots. Salinity led to an increase in Na concentration and reductions in Ca and K contents which were relieved by the nSe applications. Moreover, the nSe treatment at 10 μM alleviated the NaCl-induced lesion to PSII functioning, contributing to improvement in water-splitting complex (Fv /Fo ) under salinity. The exposure to nSe at a concentration of 100 μM exhibited a moderate stress, determined by the increases in hydrogen peroxide (H 2O2) and lipid peroxidation rate (membrane integrity index). The nSe10 treatment increased catalase activity and phenylpropanoid derivatives contents (salicylic acid, catechin, and caffeic acid) and decreased the content of oxidants under salinity condition. Consequently, nSe utilization at a suitable dose can be an effective method to alleviate signs of salt stress via improvements in photosynthesis, ion hemostasis, photosynthesis performance, salicylic acid (a vital signaling defensive hormone), and antioxidant machinery.

Opis:
Introduction. Lithium has been used in medicine for almost seventy years. Besides beneficial effects, its therapy may cause serious side-effects, with kidney and liver being the organs most vulnerable to its harmful influence. Therefore, research on protective agents against lithium toxicity has been continuing for some time. Objective. The aim of the present study is to evaluate the influence of additional selenium supplementation on lithium content, as well as homeostasis of the essential microelements iron, zinc, copper and manganese in kidney and liver of rats undergoing lithium exposure. Materials and method. The study was performed on 4 groups of male Wistar rats (6 animals each) treated with: control – saline; Li-group – Li2CO3 at a dose of 2.7 mg Li/kg b.w.; Se-group – Na2SeO3 at a dose of 0.5 mg Se/kg b.w.; Li+Se-group – both Li2CO3 and Na2SeO3 at doses of 2.7 mg Li/kg b.w. and of 0.5 mg Se/kg b.w., respectively, in the form of water solutions by stomach tube, once a day for 3 weeks. The content of the studied elements in the organ samples was determined using flame atomic absorption spectroscopy (FAAS). Results. Lithium administered alone caused a significant increase in its content in liver and kidney. Additional supplementation with selenium reversed these effects, and did not markedly affect other studied microelements compared to control. Conclusions. The obtained results suggest that selenium could be regarded as an adjuvant into lithium therapy. However, considering the limitations of the present study (the short duration, using only one dose and form of selenium) the continuation of the research seems to be necessary to clarify the influence of selenium supplementation on basic microelements and lithium accumulation in organs during lithium exposure.
